I don't know about anyone else, but being alone in an area like that is pretty much paradise to me.
Hi Matt, thank you so much for taking us on this adventure. Your rig and videography are amazing. The scenery was gorgeous. Thank you for sharing! 🙏🏽💙🚙
Man, this is one of those experiences that forces a man to believe in something greater than ourselves. The beauty and magnitude of our natural world is overwhelming at times.
Totally agree!!
Where is this in soco?
On your fire concern, you are 100% correct to coach getting in the habit of knowing at all times what current fire ban conditions are. As of 8/26 in that area you were in there were not any county restrictions and there were very few national forest restrictions. Stage 1 in some cases which does allow a wood fire in a contained ring. Depending on the specific conditions of those campers, they may have been wholly within their right to have the campfires you passed by.
Dude we had tons of rain this year. Some areas you could have crashed a 747 into and not started a fire. Yes every year is different. Probably next year we will burn down.
Exactly! I looked to see where he was as well. NO fire restrictions.
Everything costs so much now we can’t afford to go and it’s driving us crazy. Gas and food is ridiculous. Just work and home till things change. Our last trip camping is a year and a half.
we don't camp anymore. our friend with the camper died😢
When there’s a will there’s a way make memories not dreams
My wife and I have been loving your latest adventures. And seeing you in cool weather Colorado is so refreshing!
Nice to hear some beautiful music in a video instead of the usual whatever
"A little too peopley for me"...I'm right there with you....an I'm stealing that quote!!!!! Another great video!!!
That shot of you getting out of the tent, that right there is why I won't make it as a YouTuibe'r. Man got out the tent, put on his slippers, set up the camera, climbed back in the tent removing his slippers along the way...just to do it again for the shot. Kudos!
LOL. Thanks for noticing the work involved. I love it!!
Some of the views on this video have been so awesome. Wallpaper worthy on so many of them.. What a beautiful life.. Keep them coming!
Thank you, I will
Heading to the Westcliff area from Kansas on the 1st.
It does seem counterintuitive that the closer to the sun the colder it gets when you also hear that hot air rises. I also have never thought of why the little chipmunk? or ground squirrel? moves its tail to talk. It is so fun to ponder the wonders of the world while camping in the wilderness. Thanks for sharing your adventures and your wise out loud wondering questions.
That t-shirt is awesome! No people!
Colorado sure is beautiful.
One of his best videos - so peaceful
Without a doubt OUTSTANDING video❤
Thanks so much!
The temperature increases and decreases quickly because of lower air density and lower humidity. There’s just less mass to heat and at night hold the heat.
Solo overlanding in Colorado is my go-to! It never gets old and there is always more to see. Good call on the inflatable ducky!
Today was a bad day at work for me and I came home wound up. Watched your video and it helped me calm down. Thank you Matt.
Sorry your day was bad but glad I could help!!
Your traveling the roads & hidden gems that I always had wanted to ❣️ Exploring that beautiful back country with breathtaking views. I can not thank you enough for this video especially, it spoke to me in ways I can not articulate. 🥃
Thanks so much!
Looked like a good trip! That meat makes me hungry!!! Thanks for another great video!
Gorgeous country. Great video Matt.
I’ve lived in Colorado for 10 years now and still haven’t found the area that you featured in the video lol. We spend most of our time northwest in white river national forest. Some really great areas to explore out there. Great video Matt!
love the smell the light rain and cool weather , perfect for me
I just went down that road this weekend. You are right the San Juans are kind of empty. I did not make it all the way to your lake cuz like an idiot i did not fill up before and spare fuel containers were kind of half way full. Absolutely beautiful country. I'll have to try the fly fishing next time.
what a wonderful trip! so pretty, thank you for sharing

MAtt, great seeing you and Cara this week in Colorado.
One of your best videos to date! I love the atmospheric describing narration! Thanks for sharing!
As always love the video and keep them coming! We made a trip to Colorado recently and loved it can’t wait to go back
absolutely amazing, content matt.
Ah, yes, Solo Overland! 😎 Nice…
Bravo! Fun trip!
Thank you! New territory to explore. Tracking same route. About 1 week behind you. Good information! Keep up the good work!!
Thanks for sharing, been to Colorado back in 2016 , this is my dream to drive alone some day
I can tell you that there was lots of rain in colorado this year and areas that do not have burn bans
One of the most beautiful and gorgeous videos about Colorado. Drone views is so amazing 🙌🏻. I love it👍🏽👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you so much 👍
Another Great Video! Wish they were an Hr long lol …. Love the Content!!
Thanks!!
Oh this looks like such a fun trip. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks for watching!
awesome route! I have solo'd through Colorado a dozen times. Always a rewarding journey.
It really is!
solomon hiking shoes good choice best ones out there! love the content keep it up!
Agreed! I love them!!
Spent many years fly-fishing on the Conejos River - many times backpacking up the South Fork of the Conejos from the trailhead at a parking area about two-thirds of the way up to Platoro. Absolutely beautiful area. But you're right about the washboard road. It can be excruciating. I've also driven from Platoro over the mountains to South Fork (in a 1995 Toyota T100 - precursor to the Tundra, and much smaller). It is wonderful country for sure.
Can't wait to see your next segment. It's been at least 35 years since I made the journey up Stony Pass from the Creede side (that trip was in a brand-new 1984 Nissan 4x4 Kingcab pickup - it was Nissan's first foray into the 4x4 world).
BTW - I'm your virtual neighbor, living in OKC. :)
As always, thanks much for sharing.
Steve
Saw you guys at overland west today. You guys are looking great. Thk you for the inspiration
Awesome epik video
Great photography again.
Thanks for sharing a GREAT TRIP! Your footage, drone shots, narration is wonderful!
Thanks so much!
We're lucky to get out once a month anymore. Quality of life is getting harder to achieve for us.
I know that area well. That pass you did is one of our favorite trails and the lake you camped at is one of our favorite spots for lunch. We camp and trail ride that area every year with our sxs. Saw our first bear not too far from the lake in June.
Love the South San Juans, my favorite part of Colorado
Matt FYI we have a place in South Park (basically smack dab in the middle of Colorado) and we have not had a burn ban this summer except when they have had red flag warnings (high wind warnings). We had burn ban almost all of last summer but nothing this summer because of how wet the early part of the summer was. Probably no burn ban down there where you were as well.
Hey Matt, What is your fav pack raft? We are looking at getting one or two bc after seeing you have one and use it a couple times Kayla want's one super bad to float around in when we are out at camp! Wonderful idea. You truly inspire us to get out!! As always, Much love from LR, and another banger of a video. Every time we watch a video of yours on our weekly overlanding videos night, it always makes us want to get up and go out and see new amazing things!
So, I definitely think you need a second channel, with just sound scapes from all your travels. Like this one, just call it Colorado wind breeze. Have it loop for 1 hour strait. Or the pacific north west oceans, and so on. Love your videos and your adventures. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
I hope you did Stoney pass. I can’t wait to see your next video.
Definitely did!! It's a few videos away.
That forest here in Colorado was so much more green before that dang beatle got into all of it!
Yep. Sad.
So beautiful and peaceful.
Yes it was!
WOW! Just so Amazing Brother!! 👍👍👍
Thanks a lot!
Awesome episode!!!! I would love to camp in Colorado. I am new to the camping. I am starting with tent camping. A roof top tent will be in the future.
New Matt-ism: Peopley. How was that campsite? A little too peopley 😂😂
Been on the backroads of Colorado (summer jobs Forest Service), yep, Awesome!
Very cool!
I really really like the thought of a roof-top-tent but being my age I just don’t think I could see myself crawling up into it.
They aren't for everyone and that's ok.
Another nice video, thank you. When collapsing the ladder try starting from the bottom. You should be able to push the release on the bottom rung and then the rest will automatically collapse without having to push each individual release.
Doesn't work that way on iKamper ladders.
The tail moving along with making the noise is a warning.
Hey Matt FYI there is a Sinclair truck stop on 285 in Antonito! Beautiful video. Just returned from that area.
We just talked today at expo Mtn west, big white dog - Tater. Anyhow, great video. Love that area and great video👍😀
Great talking with you!!!
Hoping to move back to Colorado next year. I was born and raised in Grand Junction. I miss the area, being so close to so many adventure opportunities. It's sad how many trees have been killed by bark beetles though. Otherwise beautiful areas are seemingly ruined by dead trees because of them.
Yeah the beetle impact on the trees is very sad.
Just don't move to Douglas County. I'm already here. Too expensive! Grand junction may be good!
@@wheelingincooverland hopefully back to GJ.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures the forest service is cutting many trees down due to it.
Thank you for taking us with you. Also, all those incredibly out of the truck shots you set up. 😊 Then had to go back to get the camera...😂

Hi Matt. Ive watched a lot of your videos and I am a big fan of your channel. Your Colorado videos are especially awesome because I live here and am looking forward to cranking up my overlanding adventures soon. I have an off road pop up camper that I pull behind my 2015 JKU which is great for my spouse, our two boys (13 and 15) and our two dogs. However, I recently bough a used rooftop tent that I am anxious to try out this late summer and fall yet. Its always been my original plan to outfit my jeep with the rooftop tent and overlanding type set up. Im getting there..... Keep the great work and thank you for the inspiration with all that you. (oh, by the way, I moved here in 1999. I am originally from the St. Louis area and have spent many fun adventures when I was younger at the Lake of the Ozarks.)
Lastly, when you passed that little chipmunk, I had the same thought/question, just before you verbalized it, regarding the chipmunk and the tail flick. So I looked it up. I havent read all of the comments for this video, so maybe someone answered it already. In case not. Here you go!!
"The tail-flick is a way for the animal to communicate that it sees the predator and will flee if it gets closer. The squirrel might also flick its tail to communicate warnings to other squirrels in its territory. The flick is a way to tell other squirrels to watch out or stay away from their food."
Thanks for that. Makes sense. Enjoy your adventures!!!
In Colorado the exposure from the sun is worse due to less protection from the atmosphere that you would get in let’s say Texas. Although Texas has the smothering humidity.
Yes It gets hot faster because you're closer to the Sun but also, the drier air is less resistant to temperature change. So it gets hot faster but it also gets cold faster. It's the water in the air helps stabilize the temperature. That's why it's still 95° at 9:00 p.m. in Alabama.
I actually used to live in Colorado, so I've seen both extremes.
On another topic... I just can't get over how many miles you've got off road and how well that gladiator is holding up.
Dude we were leapfrogging each other
great video Matt as always....beautiful drone shots . does your drone have long landing legs? because it could be quite useful for your "passing by" shots.... fly it a head a little bit ,land, point at trail drive by take off and repeat....would save a lot of time and leg work running back , or backing up on the trail to retrieve cam and tripod... hope this is a useful idea... Happy technical trails, and shiny-ish side up.....
I do that sometimes but then I don't get the sounds of the Jeep driving by which I like.
Hi Matt, check out the new ARB Earth Camper. $44K US. Pretty cool 😎.
Guadalupe State Park, Texas!
Going in 2 weeks hopefully it doesnt get crowded on me.
I doubt it will be.
Hello !
I live close to Telluride and I was watching you 8 days in Colorado 8 months ago, anyways we laugh at people trying to do these trails,I have a modified 88 Suzuki Samurai I take on trails and make jeeps owners jelly because I can go places they can't because I'm light weight and smaller than jeeps,so I laugh at jeeps like you guys tease Toyota owners 😂😂nice video and glad you enjoyed our state
I would love to have an old Sami!! They are so cool. I can stay gone a lot longer in the Gladiator though. LOL.
Great video as always. Colorado/Utah is definitely on the top of my list for next year’s adventure.
Matt, is there a site or specific place you sourced the venison & elk filets from?
Thanks!! highly recommend. I got them from thehonestbison.com
Great video, great views! This one was jam packed with all kinds of good sound bites. Love it! Going forward Matt I'll be commenting as @BigRockOverland . Just wanted to give a heads up bc we love watching you and chatting here and there. Keep an eye out for us!
You make me hungry all the time, argggg….
Dude, you are lucky you made it out of town with that fuel up. By the way. There was a Sinclair gas station just behind the railroad station you drove by twice. And again, you were literally less than 1/8 mile from swinging by and saying hi. I have a couple of guys on my staff that would have liked to meet you in person.
1/8 of a mile???? WHAT??? UGH!!!!
Beautiful video, oh not you by the way...lol i have question. How many miles you go before fill up? Like this video. Thats the only thing i think about, gas. I. My truck get 205 miles a tank. Running on 37" 5.29 gears. I did over land one time and almost ran out before getting to gas station. Packs are nice to have because you never know when you need them.
200 miles is about my expected range and plan my fuel stops accordingly.
Matt, honest question… when or do you ever wash your Jeep and what do you do about routine maintenance on the road. Thanks and love the videos.
I wash it when I return home from trips. If it's been super muddy or dusty I'll find a car wash in a town and rinse it off during a trip. I do all my maintenance at home but once we are traveling full time you can do routine stuff in an OReilly or auto zone parking lot.
Should have brought you a fly rod
Matt I'm curious to know how many miles have yall accumulated from all these trips on yalls jeeps? Really enjoyed this!
just turned 70k miles on the Gladiator in 2 years. The Wrangler has over 40k
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures making memories not dreams
Next week sometime I will be heading out on my own. First time in my whole 58 years on this earth. Needless to say I’m a little hesitant actually somewhat scared in fact. I will be in my minivan camper I built. So no overlanding for me! I tried creek crawling in it and didn’t go to well, lol but I digress, how do you feel about an older lady and her safety? Anything you think I need to look out for?
Im going up through northern Missouri to SD, ND, WY, MT and maybe back down into Northern CO. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated!!
Just be smart and don't take unnecessary risks and you'll be fine. I know plenty of women to solo travel.
Honestly like anyone else always a good idea to have a check in person who knows where you are going and plan to go. As Matt mentioned a Garmin InReach is a good idea if you get into areas with no cell service. Other than that just enjoy the scenery and take your time and have a great trip.
Can you tell us where is this amazing trail please?
It's a lot of different forest service roads I connected together in Southern Colorado. It doesn't have a name.
How are the Milestars wearing? Im thinking of running them.
They are fantastic!! Not sure how many miles I have on mine but my wife has over 40k on her Wrangler and they have 50% tread left.
Hey Matt I was wanting to ask you a question a Goose 🐶🐶🐶do y’all have trouble with him getting sick my mom has a French bull dog just like him and he get sick all the time I was going to see if y’all had any tips she got antacid pills from the doctor for the acid reflux but he still gets sick with white foam liquid like acid reflux????
We've never had a health problem with Goose and he eats just about anything. I hate to hear that about your mom's.
Have you seen any Sasquatch or worse?
Matt,
How do you get those amazing drone shots when you're alone?
Very carefully and lots of practice. LOL
We're in Durango and would like to git this area. Where is this? Thanks in advance
Matt, why don't you guys run a auxiliary fuel cell. Is there a reason, for example such as weight or is it personal preference.
I totally get the emergency fuel cans, I am just curious your opinion on the aux fuel cell.
They are a great option. For me it’s the extra weight since I like the technical trails too.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures thank you for sharing. Be safe
Spectacular photography that's what I like is the piece as a photographer I do better by myself your music is perfect it's peaceful most overlanders use heavy metal it doesn't fit the mountains and peace within the mind and the soul. I gather more when I am i n t u n e to nature and the mountains that's where my creativity comes in. So much going on in the world and all they have to do is go to the park connect with God.
Unrelated question Matt. Are you running OEM battery and axillary battery in your rig yet?
Yes. I have replaced my main battery but not with anything special.
Hello. I have an important question for you. You may want to make an single video for this too. What do you do if you get stuck and stranded driving to a remote secluded location with no service miles away from civilization? I know that Garmin makes a GPS that you can push an emergency button that connects you to a 911 operator and search and rescue, you can even talk to a person too. Do you have any of these devices? I got stuck and broken down recently in Colorado, in Fort Collins and we had no service if you watch my video.
Thank you!
I think I spoke about that in the video. I have a Garmin InReach with me at all times for just such an emergency.
@OzarkOverlandAdventures okay, sorry. You have over 300 videos lol. You have to pay a monthly Fee I believe. How does that exactly work? Rei told me a little about it.
Thank you!
@@wheelingincooverland Yes it's a monthly fee. I think $25 a month for the service but you can suspend it when you aren't using it. With it you can text from it, send your location to people and call for emergency help.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures cool!
Good to know! I want to overlanding in Wyoming.
Thank you!
I thought you could not fly drones in NP or NFS properly? I know you can’t in Yellowstone but I thought it is that way for all of them now.
You can’t in National Parks. You can in National Forests.
Good thang, your LP was blurred out!! Don't want anyone hacking your playstation account!!
Huh? I don't hide my license plate. that's dumb! LOL
Pagosa Springs Colorado is my favorite area. The trails are endless
