I will definitely look on other keycap mounts in the future but it seems that the moulds for MX mounts would have a considerably shorter life, so I am not sure if the production would be economical.
Yep, it was a cheap way to make a custom stabilizers. Actually, stabilizing this huge beast was not an easy thing. I went through a lot of different stabilizer systems / mounts / spring sizes and shapes.
I use Smooth-On products. Smooth-Sil 945 for the moulds and Smooth-Cast 310 for casting. Despite the very low viscosity of the materials, I still recommend pressure casting.
I'll buy it one day, love how you show all processes. very educating video.
Thanks!
its astonishing how clever you are with these designs. respect
Thanks!
My favorite thing about this is that due to Lego's precision and ubiquity its a de facto mold standard.
Yes, it fits like a glove. 😂
Amazing to watch. Thank you! I kind of wish you made keycaps for other switches too.
this was so satisfying to watch
Exceptional work
I can’t like this enough, but I’m not gonna lie, I was thoroughly confused until about a minute and a half!
you are making home-made keyCaps in a factory way
if you ever want to make MX compatible caps like your alps ones, I would definitely be in line

LOL! Only now i understand the red (Matias silent?) stems used as stabilizer guides for the long long key!

very cool process, thanks for sharing! what model CNC do you use?

I hope one day you can manufacture also the ALPS switches, to reach mythical status (right now u r "just" epic)
That would be achievement of a lifetime! But it is tempting, I always wanted to be a saint or something. :-D
@@keymacs It would also be a boost for your line of business, given a good enough clone design of the original ALPS
👏🏻show
my yaw just dropped!
What are you using for molding and casting? Looks like it has a very low viscosity

What's the powder you are adding?
Talcum powder.
@@keymacs Can I ask what purpose that serves please?
@@pook2830 The demolding is easier.
@@keymacs That makes sense. Thanks.

Vendes?
I would have sanded the bottom of that but that’s just me
