So in video game music, this is common: note how they create tension with like a minor or a flat, and then they resolve it very quickly. This is meant to mirror the fact that, in games, there’s often these little moments when you’re playing that have a bit of a struggle followed by success. These moments in gameplay and in the music both happen fairly frequently, so sometimes they coincide. It feels really cool when they do, and that’s no accident. To quote Harry Plinkett: “You may not have noticed, but your brain did.”

      @the8thark 2 года назад +5

You maybe correct. This track is quite amazing.
However this track as good as it is kind of fails, as does the stage it is in. It does not emphasis speed. Sonic is all about speed and this track is the opposite of that. It's all bout rushing tension to a climax. Sonic tracks need to hit you in the face from the start with power, speed and all that stuff.

I've never played as a kid but i decided to go back in history, long story short, i have it on my phone. If it was hard on the original game, its 10x's harder on the phone....

I've always be a hardcore Mario fan until just recently when my friend lent me his Genesis. And looking at that badass blue hedgehog spinning around like crazy made me realise that Mario is in fact only a sad italian plumber.

...A sad Italian plumber that rescues princesses every game... *in 3D.* *USING THE SAME STYLE FOR EVERY 3D GAME.* I know you wrote this nearly a decade ago, but, dude, with the games Mario's putting out, you could not have worded that any better.
Granted, Sonic's also had his flaws too (Sonic '06, Sonic Boom and all of its games, SONIC FORCES!!!!), but compared to the Mario games nowadays, that's NOTHING. Nearly 40 years (1981) since Mario's first entry and he's already weakened...
The winner could be anybody. Ristar, Ecco, Alex Kidd, Mario, Sonic, the Ninja Turtles, it wouldn't matter. SEGA seriously needs to step their game up if they wanna beat Mario. Sonic Mania just isn't enough.
Me, and all of the Sonic fans, we SERIOUSLY need a game that feels like an ACTUAL Sonic game. If the fans can make a 3D Sonic game and get praise for it, then SEGA can too! They just need the right amount of money given to developers for it.

@@angelayoung2879 There's so much wrong with this. The "Mario vs Sonic" fiasco died decades ago, so comparing them should stop too. Nearly every single 3D Mario game is considered some of the best games of all time while Sonic's are the opposite. The only recent Sonic games that are good are the ones that use heavy amounts of nostalgia, Mario not even using that. I could go on but it's probably a waste of time talking to you.

AngelDemon excuse me?? I had never played a Sonic game before except for M&S At The London 2012 Olympic Games, and I picked up Sonic Mania and had a blast with it. Sonic Mania is a great game regardless of nostalgia. When Metal Sonic burst through the floor and the music was like DUN DUN DUN DU DUN DU DUUUUUUUUN I knew I’d be in for a great boss fight. After I defeated Metal Sonic after 2 continues (lol) I reached Hydrocity Zone Act 1&2, and I was like "MAN this music is phenomenal" and then Mirage Saloon Act 1 (K) started after beating HCZ (My first playthrough was with Knuckles) and I was amazed at how well it captured the atmosphere of the morning desert. Then came Oil Ocean, Lava Reef, Hidden Palace, Metallic Madness (One of my favourites in the game) and Titanic Monarch. I got Sonic Mania Plus and loved Mighty, Ray and Encore Mode, however, I failed to get all the chaos emeralds after completing both Mania and Encore modes... and then I realised that the Heavy King was the true villain behind it all as he stole the Phantom Ruby at the last second and juggled the Chaos Emeralds in his hands in front of me!

Ah, my favorite song of Sonic 1. Hell one of my favorite Sonic themes in general. Not a fan of the level itself but the theme is so somber sounding I fall in love with it the first time I heard it and I can’t explain why. Then again, I’m a sucker for a good melancholy/atmospheric track. I don’t know they’re just my aesthetic I guess. XD

Marble Zone was never my favorite Sonic zone.
I mean, yeah, in a game where the whole premise is “go fast,” an entire zone mainly focused on platforming, waiting, and timing is kind of a bad idea.
    But this music.
This is single-handedly one of the best songs in Sonic 1, only barely being beaten by Star Light.

I wake up with this melody playing in my head sometimes semi-frequently. It's been happening since I played the games as a kid. It wasn't even one of my favorite levels. I was always more of a Sonic 2 kid, ya know? But I guess my brain just clung to this tune for some reason?? Catchy little number, for sure. Just not my favorite. 🤔

Usually game soundtracks are in the Major mode and that makes them sound happy. This one is in A Minor and even has a flat 1 at one point. That's why it sounds depressing.
You can search "Marble Zone in Major" and find a happier version of this.

My Cousin always knew the passwords to enter debug mode back when we had to look in books to get passwords. We were kids, I was like 7 or 8 and he was like 13. I miss him. He died back in Nov 2016. This song reminds me so much of him. I really love the nostalgia and the thought of my cousin. Miss him so much. He would be 35 today. May God rest his soul. Please, cherish your loved ones while they're here. Tomorrow isn't promised for anyone.

I got here from watching The Office season 7 episode 22, Deangelo Vickers (Will Ferrell) is whistling this song in the break room about 10m 30s into the show. I immediately recognized the song at 35 years old from playing this game in 1993. Impressive or sad, either way, this takes me back :D
