- Today I tested a cheap travel water heater element (immersion boiler) from China from Ebay for just 2 USD. Does it work? Is it safe or dangerous? Is it idiot-proof? Let's do some experiments and see.

Ghosty Cake he died
I hope he is ok!
What happened to him?
I know he's making experiments with high voltage, if 10MW shocked him to death, he won't make any videos.
5:45 "It Glowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwsssssssssssss"
Two uses of this device:
1)Heats water
2)Ignites fire
... Nice!
congrats for 69 likes
It's a "brilliant" (as in glowing) multi tool... a hammer, heater, and a fire-starter... tsk-tsk :D
naaaiiiiis XDD
"It can very easily set you on fire. THAT'S NIIIIICE"
In USSR you had these very commonly, and there was also the bigger version at 1750 or even 2000 or 3000w. They were 30 cm long and you used those to heat tubs of water at a time. My grandma when she was young in 1950s she didn't have hot water heater in her house so before bath time she would fill the tub and immerse one or two of these huge heaters for 10 minutes and water would be nice and toasty.. God old times.. well, not so good.
It's soldering iron and water heater in one device
and glowstick 3in1
And firestarter 4 in 1
I'm out if ideas... 5 in 1

Multipurpose device. Heats water, starts fire. Definitelly must have :-D
And soldering iron
It's a MultiTool.
5:44 It GLOOOWWWWWWWWWSSS! 😄
In fact, this sucker could be a perfect ignition device for Mythbusters! :D
Doctor : I have some bad news... You have AIDS
Him: THATS NICE
Him again: Let's measure how long i can live without medication

I think Diode said that in an ironic way
A few days (maybe a week ago) I had this high current transformer I made and I used a bit of steel wire (maybe 1-1.5mm?) to make a heating element to light some pieces of wood on fire. A butane lighter wouldn't keep them alight, but the heating element worked so well.
6:57 best moment
I just remembered, when i was a child didn't have any soldering iron. But there was this water heater in our shower. And i used this water heater to solder some wire with a speaker. It was the 1st soldering in my life... probably in 2001-2002...
And Nobody noticed 🙂
Wow! How did the solder joint turn out?
6:24 It can very easily set you on fireee
*THATS'S NICEEEE*
That's amazing!!
John Ward has just done a similar video. On his the insulation broke down after first use so it's quite dodgy.
tmo72 dogee*
Ha ha ha... I was going to write it the same way !!!
I have to get another and do more tests of the insulation :). My one now has mains in the metal tube, but I thought that this only happens when you overheat it by running it in the air.
DiodeGoneWild - John Ward used a 500V / 1000V insulation tester (not that it managed to get to those test voltages, as the insulation was not good enough).
@@DiodeGoneWild their insulation just is hopeless. if was earthed it would trip rcd
I love your english ;-)
Don't be a dickhead...I doubt you speak English properly and I doubt even more you speak multiple languages......can't stand when people make fun of others at least trying and absolutely more so speaking proper English ....you sir are a fuckhead...plz post a video of yourself so we can properly criticize you....

I've seen 2 versions of those immersion heaters. One version has a thermal cut off fuse, that will open if you leave it plugged in without water. The other version has no thermal protection and will glow orange if left plugged in without water.
Home Alone door knob trap China Edition
Lol
I was just thinking that
I love how he wrote his name on the piece of wood using the red hot dodgy water heater!
It's informative but I can't stop laughing at the presentation. Good stuff, dude
"It's can make fire! IT's nice! it's amazing" especially at your house when u go to sleep :P
I love Chinese products. They roughly do what you expect and are simplified to the max. So much so, they can be deliciously dangerous.
Isnt there a version of these products (travel water heater) that is actually "NOT dodgy"?
Amazing English, keep up the good work!
Between 4:32 and 4:33 I saw a spark from the plug.
Me too!
so what
That happens everytime you unplug power intensive device like iron or space heater
So?
@@zUltra3D hahahah lol
@@zUltra3D what
It is very dodgy. -my favourite sentence.
That makes a great electric charcoal grill starter
Cool. So is that little "6" almost "B" symbol always the cyrillic character for voltage?
I wonder if this little guy would be an ideal element for a small reflow oven. It could probably work as a preheating device for crude SMD reworks too. The plastic and wire would obviously need to go.
-Jake
В in cyrillic is equal to V in latin, so i actually just means Volts :) The latin B in cyrillic looks like this Б or this б (upper vs. lowercase)
You would need to control the temperature or it will burn out.
B stands for volts in cyrillic. The B symbol is actually pronounced "V" in russian.
I think this element is going to fail quite soon. It's very poor quality and it's not designed to run in free air. I also forgot to say that after the experiment, the tube has mains in it! You probably should use something of a higher quality and also designed for free air operation.
Just discovered your channel. You're crazy. I'm subscribed!!
It's not just a water heater, it's also a infrared heater! (as we can see in the video)
Brilliant demo.
6:00 can it solder 😁
it looks like whatever metallic coating is on it dissolved into the water; the water isn't very clear any more and the element isn't so shiny either. You might get a side order of heavy metal with your drink
Use with 5 others to melt metal? No? Or wouldn't it work ?

In my county(Japan)
500W means AC100V 5A 50/60Hz.
I think that is a light bulb rather than a water heater 😏😏😏
If I use it , could I drink the water
Or it used only for wash water
This video is better with Firestarter by The Prodigy in the background :D
Where is the "fire extinguisher" when you need it? Chilling in the cooler? 😜
The resistance depends on the temperature.
Water do not conduct current but ions in it conduct well.
And earthing is where?
Nice soviet, ane czechoslavakian heter, we also produced it in poland, but now we dont produce anything.
I belive that soviet, and other older are better, and safer, and i have old one, bigger polish 1kw, it works great, and it has got ground if i remember goodly.
This is the legendary Czechoslovak heater:

It's grounded.
Ty jsi čech ne? Jinak máš super videa
I just noticed that the plug pins on this look like they're zinc plated (steel underneath?). Can you confirm (if you still have it)?
Hi i have a question i have a mini Kentiger amplifier i got off ebay it says use a 12v 5 amp power supply i used a 12v 2 amp and i noticed when enhancing the volume it cuts out bad.. Is it because of the 12v 2amp power supply? Thanks!

adapter probably was meant to be like "survival"
survival tools or something :D idk
With those flat pronged plugs both those heaters seem to be intended for an American market and use on 115 volt current, not 220-240v! At 97 ohms and 115v the wattage would around a much safer 140 watts. Still, nothing I would dare leave operating unattended.
Yay I have been searching for a fire starter and now I can use this 🤣😅
Watching again I'm surprised it didn't burn out running dry.
Did the insulation fail after it's been overheated?
Of course it did :). Now there's mains in the outer tube....

Anyways it can make hot water and it can be used for making unerasable words on most materials.
every Soviet person had such a heater ( boiler)
Your pencils seem to write very well
I'm not sure but wouldn't the resistance increase as it heats up, therefore use more power?
Less power.
Its not a dc to calculate like u times I. Where ir power factor?
The power factor is 1 for resistive loads like a heater.
to je prodlužka se zapíchnutým kusem železa
mnohem lepší než ten heater rovnou 240v do vody

Great video that glowing travel water heater (immersion water boiler) burning a Wood.
electric fire starter?
Resistance increases with increase in temperature you should have just measured current.
But why current is same when it's heated.
- he should have just measured current.... like he measured the current EVERY fucking time? DOH.

4:48 ...great, only heats up when in water. However, it will also shock the shit out of you if you touch the water and are grounded in any way.
LOL. Those immersion heaters are as old as the hills. I still have that coil kind I bought back in the late 1960's. I thought yours there would burn out the heating element before it could start a fire. wow. Chinese double the ratings on nearly everything they make. Even more lies for voltage converter boards. I bought some boost converter a few years ago. Claims 800 watts. Best I could get out of it was around 90 watts before the thing nearly melted down. LOL.
It woorks and that nice starts to boild ;)

Imagine someone drinking with non isolated one will being grounded.

5:06 LMAO
That heating element with a metal case, doesn't have a ground wire, wtf?
Theres a thin heating wire that runs through the middle, then there is fine sand that us packed around it between the heater coil and the steel tubing.
@@jerryspann8713 I know that, it's filled with magnesium oxide which spreads the heat onto the metal case by the heating element (coil inside), but sometimes the resistive wire can get in contact with the case.
Hahaa, just the accent makes someone wild! But no, not wild if you are not a diode because i always love watchting those video's
