Dangerous Chinese Travel Extension with USB Charger - teardown
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 20 май 2018
- Today I made a teardown of a travel power extension socket with a USB charger from China with a picture of a mouse on it. It has a mains plug, a cable, mains socket and 4 USB sockets. It immediately looks quite dangerous because of a very thin mains cable and a 3-terminal mains socket, despite the mains plug is just 2-pin non-grounded. The ground (earth) terminal doesn't go anywhere. The charger can't continuously supply the claimed 4.8A current and the mains isolation is questionable. Risk of electric shock and fire.

8:06, a diode gone wild 😉
HDXFH 😂
Diode gone fat
@@MIW_Renegade This diode from grandma
It looks like a 10A10 Diode. I looked it up! It's used as rectifier.
O. L. L ,
You are a great electronics RUclipsr. I don't see how you don't have a lot of subs. Keep up the great work!
Thanks :). For me, 62k subs is a great achievement.
Not whirlpool. Their tumble dryers burst into flames without warning.
DangBoyIsCool subbed
deserter who fuck family czech language for few money......
What does that even mean Asshole...one of my fav RUclips's ever wish he would sbowface
That blue mouse logo looks awful
That's a blue coala
I thought it was supposed to be deadmou5😂😂😂😂
Or even stitch
It looks like Mickey Mouse on cocaine
Fan universe i like your ventilation fan video so much
The mains socket should be fused if it's rated to only 800w. Accidentally drawing too much current will start a fire, but may be not enough to trip a breaker.
That's right. Every extension strip should have a fuse or breaker built in it, unless it can handle the full current of the circuit breaker (16A in Europe).
Yes, British sockets have a seperate fuse in them@@DiodeGoneWild
They really went wild with that big fat diode
Chonk
The cable for those cheap extensions are usually mad of copper cladded aluminum, and not pure copper.
Because copper is expensive metal.
So, the actual resistance of the cables can be much higher, and they can handle much lower current.
Even the metal pins (prongs) of the plugs can be made of steel and not made of chrome plated brass.
I have even seen that the metal pins of the plugs are made of very thin brass tubing with plastic core filling!
Chinese they don't care about safety the only thing they care about is money!
China is filling this wold with unsafe, toxic and garbage things.....
The name of this channel should be "Chinese gone wild"
25:06 "attracting children's fingers to those holes" hahahha :D

*MP5*
*US plug*
Oh
XD MP5
“MP5” actually refers to PMP (Portable Media player) which can run games from multiple platforms and play media files.
Zone Tan Also, yeah xD
@@Riskteven thats not what he meant but ok
@@Riskteven No not like that. He actually made a gun joke. The MP5 is a gun and its kind of a running joke with the US and its gun culture.
The 800 watts claim is very dubious. I would like to see that tested. I would guess it would kill it and start a fire.
I plan to test it :). I hope so (in order to make the video interesting :D) !
Or artificially make the power factor worse.
NE 555 😂👍
It is obvious that this was an intentional ,,TYPO,, It suppose to say 8 Watts or perhaps 18 (@most) This is a joke right ? 800W Yeah........800 watts my (**mm!!!) right...:))
At 800W it goes up in smoke, see the follow up video ;).
Dude, they should hire you as quality management.
High speed USB speed I'm dieing lmao
“BIG!” On the schematic near the diode 😂 Great video as alwais!
Big thumbs up on the whole channel There is so much valuable information in this video and it goes by at such a clip it needs to be rerun over at least 2 more times.
The idea of this charger is not bad, but the realization is bad!!!
It should have a thick 3-wire cable and a grounded plug, but then it's not so compact and you wouln't be able to wind the cable around the strip. Unfortunately such a slim sleek portable design interferes with safety...
Finally, something to recharge my smart SMG with.
Love all your videos. You make them interesting not only for those who understand circuitry. Keep it up please :)
Big Clive, who has his own RUclips channel calls this type of adapter the deathdapther because you can push the UK style plug earth pin intonthe live on them.
I absolutely love these videos and the accent makes it that much better! 😉👍
The mouse in the thumbnail looks like it's puking
Fantastic analysis, fantastic calculator, oscilloscope and 🐈!

@Tüplü_Şahin Congrats, you have no sense of humor

It's time to start calling these piddly 1kv caps 'DEATH CAPACITORS'
that really is a fat diode, I dont think Ive ever seen a fatter one
Dan, i want to build yours SSTC IV. with IGBT because its really powerful but i would like to modulate it with audio, also i dont have that igbt in my country, i can get hand on only IRG4PC50W or IRG4PC50UD or IRG4PC40KD. Can i use those IGBT's as replacement and interrupt oscillator with audio signal? Can those IGBT's handle rectified 3 Phase DC? Im asking this because im just a student and i dont want to blow up igbt's right away, i wound secondary 1m tall with 0.2mm wire.
Your hand-drawn schematics are true artwork ;-)
As always an awesome analysis - děkuji / thank you!
Wouldn't the load on the chip would be more? I would add together diode loss and the final load to get 27watts.
I love your vids!!!
could you please show us an electronic device correctly made? Like with ground connected somewhere, PCB design etc.
can you please fix the white balance setting in your camera and set it to manual. almost in all your videos the color goes yellow several times during the video
yellow is better than blue
Great inspection and explanation as always! I like the cat in the last minute when it seems to follow your explanations. But it seems she got boring very quickly and moves its head away before trolling away. Probably an excursion about meat would be more interesting for her :-)
9:50 cat meows
You really like that big diode LOL (it's R-6 or P600 package I think), love your videos 👍👍👍👍👍
Is theare triger holdoff option?
sir, can you review about portable mini fan from chinese ? it look weird when 3 of my chinese portable mini fan won't work...

Buy cheap usb sticks from ebay see if their capcity is real.
How much this charger cost? I think it is a good replacement for my dry cabinet power supply module. I have seen many similar faulty cabinets for saie in my local "ebay". I tore open one module and found that the parts were undersized and rated, no wonder many failed. The power module is "rated" as 3.3V, 6W but on the pcb, the switching transformer is a tiny winny job and 1N4007 diodes are used in the dc output. I checked with the module manufacture and the cost quoted was US$20. The module is totally resin coated and I had a hard removing all that stuff.
Ahoj, raz dávno si robil video na elektro deodorant, aj si ho používal alebo bol len na test? Aké sú sním skúsenosti a či funguje. Vďaka
Thats some wild diode!
Definitely you're the best stuff reviewer ina very simple style. And the best, is your English accent.
Why there is a grandclock soud in the background?
I need to buy your fire extinguisher, does it come in a six pack.
Yes it does.
Just go to your nearest shop and search for 🍺
High speed usb speed... im dying right now hahahahahaha
It's not a USB hub :)
IT'S A CHARGER
That's really a wild diode
11:41 Plot twist: the cat reverse engineered the schematic for him!
DiodeGoneWild: Dats A Very very fat diode
Me:That Diode Ate A Small Electroyte Capacitor....It’s marked 3040 Too....
And i thought it was a mouse killer lol, what on earth is a mouse got to do with charging??.
Mad people.
The cable looks like a headphone cable or similar, that's frightning at 230v :-(.
Pity you can't fix it and change the usb resistors to tell a phone say 1 amp per usb and remove one usb socket, it would still be usable.
The earth pin is just so stupid.:-(
Neskutečné! Od začátku co vás sleduji si říkám že to zní český a teď se mi to potvrdilo! Parádní videa!
That diode has gone wild!!!
WOW... Half hour of "dangeroos and doddgy" stuff... THANKS Danyk ❤️💋😘
What is that you are building on the bread board in the background?
Isn't it the makeshift thermometer I was using to measure the temperature of the Pirl Charger?
Ah, yes. I remember that video.
I'm planning to buy that charger aswell.
3:49 This happens in the US with most power strips and extension cords too! At least it's only 120V instead of 240V. Still dangerous, but at least the dying process is less painful.
You once made a video about a high voltage module, but it was broken. Can you do another video with a working module? I would like to see that very much, and I love your channel😜
Hi,I was wondering, why they are using only 1 diode instead of full bridge rectifier?
That's normal in Chinese
MP5? is that actually a thing? or are they talking about the H&K MP5?
'Dangerous Chinese Travel Extension with USB Charger Teardown'???
More like Chinese Travel Death Trap Teardown!
Excellent video, as always, DiodeGoneWild
Can you make a video about inverters? It will be very helpfull !
Could you give me the link for the extension cord?I am certainly not interested in the sockets, but the charger is quite interesting.
It's this one:

Alright, MP5... That is freaking gun! I don't know Chinese charge weapons. 😀
You are on many videos saying about necessity of "isolation distance on the board" (between primary and secondary side of board) but nowhere you are explaining (at least what I watched) why there even need to be some distance gap.
@chudzo skruo
voltage surge or dampness (humidity) can cause the high voltage to jump the small gap , also the transformer needs good insulation between windings for the same reason :-)
It is just a USB charger, not an extension cord. 3040 diode can gone wild with 4.8 Amps load.
800w is the output power of the ac output I assume
Dear , I found all of your vedios are very informative and very interesting. But one thing is there always in mind that why you keep your channel name Diode Gone Wild...plz reply.. And Do keep your great job going..
That isolation transformer and the proximity of your arm to it's terminals freak me out!
James Searle at least he should sit it upside down on his desk, so live terminal not exposed.
Chips seems to be DK124 or DK125.....just a guess!
For the first time I saw a Chinese charger with a fuse and a high quality circuit board for mobile phone charger on his channel.
That Diode from a Tank...lol
Upvote for the cat :)
Nice review.
They started selling these now in a local store
"waaoow that diode" you said. lol
At 11:44 after a single glance at the circuit board Veritaska the cat draws the schematic ready to use
The bypass diodes on solar panels are not for reverse voltage, they are there to make the solar panel work even if a small portion of the panel is shaded. It will give a lower voltage but it will still work good enough with that bypass diode over the shaded element. That`s why it`s called a bypass and not a protection diode mister Diagonal Wild.
Thank you.
Great vid.
Nice video
Great vid as usual but you don’t have to read everything out on the packaging bro,
Mp5?
I'm going to go ahead and say that that diode is not what's overheating, considering it's a 10 amp diode running at less than half it's design load.
That switching chip is definitely at fault - I would say that if you were to replace it with a higher power chip, or stack two of them (with some way to get the heat away from them) it would probably be fine. That capacitor would probably have to be replaced as well. If you're really worried about tracking, you could also always use a piece of plastic between them for guaranteed antitracking at those voltages.
If the cable was replaced with a much thicker one, and a grounding pin was connected properly, it would probably be perfectly fine.
But then it wouldn't be as cheap.
The reason why they might have put the grounding piece of metal in there is probably because there might also be a "luxury" version that is actually grounded.
5:30 Current is smaller due to lower voltage even when it is 0,1V of change. Because of constant resistance of resistor when voltage is smaller current too is smaller. Current(a)=Voltage(V)*resistance(Ω)(I'm writing for other people i'm 100% sure you know it:D)
can explain 10kohm and 1kv thank
Pěkný rychlozabíječ.
I have never seen this charger before
2:08 They could save ink by omitting the second half of that sentence. That might improve the safety as well.
Can somebody explain how the power for the chip is created? The Vcc pin is just connected through one capacitor with the negative, but how they make sure to not go over the - 9 volts supply voltage mentioned in the datasheet of the chip?
Ого российский осчилоскоп-wow russian osciloscope☺
