Me and my cat testing a 10 000 mAh powerbank made by "mm"

- Today, let's test and open another powerbank with the help of my cat. This time it's a 10 000 mAh rated powerbank made by "mm" with two USB ports (1A and 2.1A). Is the capacity and current capability is real or fake? What battery and circuitry does it contain? Let's see. Note: the clamp meter measurement may have been influenced by a transformer or inductor in the nearby charger SMPS.

As I suspected when I sent it, it was dodgy. Great video.
Tank you so much!!
Thanks for sending this Dan. Made a great review
Daniel Do you mean “dodgieeeehhhhh”?
Love your qualified assistant!
Three reasons to give thumb up.
1. Correct math for calculating the capacity.
2. Using a vintage calculator. Real talk, it is very nice.
3. The cute cat. :-)
I come here for the accent and the cat.
Same m8
I am also big fan of cats and med engineering 😉
Today I was literally wondering why diode gone wild has not uploaded a video all these days and here it is!😊
He did those hotel videos so I figured he was just travelling.
@@Cadwaladr you are right 👍🏻
I was concerned he'd done the "MORE SALT!" thing one too many times 😦
I'm glad he doesn't trip hotel breakers like Mehdi ElectroBOOM does…
Ah, I love having a battery made by a measuring unit
I'm dying because you wont peel the plastic off the display 😭
YES! YES! YES! I CAN'T TAKE IT ANY MORE... Pull the tab. It's right there! 😁
Literally one of the most Asian things that a European did.
@TheReal_Yash I'm an Asian, dude. Also, I don't remember writing that reply.
@TheReal_Yash Well, I guess that only applies to some Asians. Me and my family included.
I like to leave it as long as possible.
RUclips should require all videos to include at least one kitty.
Test any electrical stuff for cats in the next video :)
(Eg: RGB shirts or so..)
If that battery exploded there would be kitty cat everywhere
I was wondering where is this guy? I hope you are fine, welcome my friend, I missed hearing your voice again, thank you for being fine
I think Czechia - at least the beer he uses to extinguish fires is Czech :)
@@cls9474 Yes, Chechnya.Чеченская Республика.
Thank you for the review. I also did a review of an about to explode Xiaomi 10000mah power bank. I had to throw it away.
Just loved your cat 😍 from India 🇮🇳 stay blessed, Jai Shree Ram 🙏
Nice Cat. Very intelligent Partner.
I've got the exact same handheld oscilloscope at the end of the video. I really looking forward to your next video and how you think about this little device. May be you can give the newbies like me some tips on how to use this. I used this for the repair of my power tool charger (switching power supply) and I blew the main circuit when I connected the probe to the main transistor. That was quite dodgy of me :)
Nice! Looks like your test gizmo would benefit from a rotary encoder to replace the +/- buttons
That ic is pretty neat, practically does all the job, that is the simplest design of a power bank PCB that I've seen.
There are even simpler, as I can recall.
Long time no see! Thanks for another interesting video
i have missed your videos
i love the way you speak
Welcome back
Never disapear again
:-)
You forgot your fire extinguisher!. Jajajaja
thats a very clever cat ya got there Danny!!!
Do not be too late again, I wish you health and success
Very helpful video 👍
I am heeeeeer - of couuurrrrse. And here is his cat - of couuuuurrrrse. I love this channel!
1:42 - Kitteh gives you helpful hints and she gets rewarded with pets. That's a good relationship.
She's an experienced and very competent helper, yeah!
The "GPS" in the IC data sheet is to show area of applications of the IC in question. Beside GPS, the IC could be used in mobile phones, tablets, mobile power tools, etc
I do wonder if peeling the plastic from the three cells would have shown that they are obviously salvaged from something like a laptop...
Dosť zvláštna čeština. :-)
Taky tam cejtím češtinu. Jako rozumím mu i když bych v usa jen čuměl :D
Ne asi ale jinak celkem zajímavý
Sweet little cat
the cat's eye is very opened .that means she wants to discover something new
man i love ur channel at first hearing
An important point when charging, before running capacity tests. The LED display is a "voltmeter", so the LED may stop blinking when it reaches 4.2V, however that might only indiicate that the Constant Current (CC) charging phase is completed.
After the CC phase, the cells are then charged at Constant Voltage (CV), and they will still draw ~ 1A, then slowly drop down to about 100mA where the charging will terminate. The CV phase can last a few hours, and is where about HALF of the capacity gets added!
So, don't just trust the LED indicator.... you need to monitor the current drawn and only consider it's "fully charged" when there is no charging current drawn.
That said, those cells have no markings and are probably second hand laptop pulls, and have been re-wrapped. So they probably are shit anyway.
The only way that battery packwas going to get anywhere near 10Ah was if the cells were 3300 or 3400mAh each - think NCR18650B. Also the 4500mAh rating was at a generous 330mA per cell (1A total); most 18650s are fit for 0.5A or 1A discharge rate, so at higher discharge rates, the capacity of the cells will probably be even lower.
So the conclusion is - DODGY!
10,000mAh capacity is only possibly by using 3300mAh or 3400mAh (think Panasonic NCR18650B or similar) cells in that housing.
And since NCR18650B costs about £5 or £6 per piece, the total cost of the whole thing will probably be about £20 - basically only going to happen in a good quality product (though a good quality product will probably use flat Li-Po cells in a larger housing, or 2500mAh-ish cells in a better housing). So of course the capacity is to be expected.
You could have used Google Translate Camera to translate that Chinese Datasheet.
i like the video with the cat
For chinesium, just half their claimed specifications, and u r good!
Like the portable Cassette Recorder from the 90s with 8000 watts pmpo :D 8000 watts through a 0.5 mm² or 20 AWG cable. OF COURSE :D what a bullshit.
@@gumpi5 Oh yes, I remember that b.s crap, in the 90's was all over EU market.
This Battery must come in more volt +Amps in each of them
Nice video thanks
Your cat won't answer you in English, he probably doesn't understand a single word. Try speaking Czech next time. Cheers from Poland.
Well it says "高达1A的可编程输出电流", which means "programmable output current, which can be as high as 1A", so the claim is completely garbage. We really do not want to see such products but I personally don't think that right now there is much that we can do about them.
I dont really understand why power bank makers puts a MAX10000Mah label for example, even if it's only rated at 6000Mah. I have my samsung power bank and it said that it was a 10Kmah but as soon as I read through the box details, I see that it was only rated at 6500Mah. why tho?
Can you put the 18650 cells into the case of the power bank with the digital LED display?
I had a similar battery pack. pcb isn't identical tho. Battery wasn't in good shape, so I switched out batteries. But it can't give enough amps just like yours. but I found the datasheet for the chip on the motherboard it claims 3amp output. maybe some resistors are limiting it?
This just in: I'm watching this video and my little brother mistook you for ElectroBOOM (Mehdi Sadaghdar).
Where can I buy that nice calculator?
Built one similar.
No digital display just LED indications.
Your cat looked so disgusted at this thing - it must be crap 😊
So let's recharge it for better explosion when puncturing :P
A dab of wd40 is enough to clean the contacts of the USB ports
Well the cat had already said it was rubbish about a minute into the video. The rest of the video was to prove what the cat said... Lol
Thank you for the video and your time to make it!
LLAP
I think that some Chinese manufacturers just grab used laptop batteries, extract their cells and stick them in these enclosures with some generic circuitry. At least they shouldn't lie, measure the actual capacity and report it on the box, along some notices about the cells not being brand new but rather recycled. "Power banks with recycled power cells". Something that I've been doing for months until now.
Tank you, the viewer!
Jednou mi strejda koupil powerbanku z číny a spálila mi port na nabíjení v telefonu.
How can I donate ?????
Came here for Diode’s “ands”
i bought a new china made charge board to Americans made good 6year old powerbank and its just charging only 100-200mA and if it goes up to 500mA the charging board, i hear strange bubbling sound from the board. How can i fix it? my old origial bank board ic failed
Yeah, finally a lot of cat-content 😺😻 The heck with that power bank!
Nice video :) but I'll would have opened it first at empty battery. If something goes wrong, the batteries will get only hot but it won't make much damage because the batteries are already empty. And after opening I would charge it up.
The sad thing is that they could have used 3300 mAh batteries, or even added space for a 4th one at 2500 mAh
I suppose that's not bad for 3x 18650 cells. For a cheap Chinese power bank, you really weren't expecting them to use Panasonic NCR18650B cells, which are pretty much the only ones that will get you 10Ah in just three 18650s in parallel.
Quite a lot of scavenged laptop battery cells perform at about this rate, or slightly worse (though you can sometimes get really nice ones).
If a cheap Powerbank looks and feels cheap, and has a kinda big but not unreadonable capacity, its probably real. I have a 6€ 4400mah powerbank, but it seems that they put their money into genuine cells. There are two 18650 batteries in it. If someone sells a cheap but good looking powerbank, they wont have much money left for nice electronics and good cells, after the case.
Also it has a relativley good 1A. They often sell powerbanks that claim 1A, but they just cant. I havent testet the A, but its better than another powerbank i have.
Your Cat is often seen on your videos. She's beautiful but you are never seen on your any videos. All of your viewers want to see your face. We love your videos only because of your voice and your intelligent descriptions on the videos...😀😁😂😃😄😄😅
You can find photos on the About Me page of his website.
😹 More Cat! ❤
What recording Cam do you have? Is it capable 1080p?
Oympus XZ-10. It can record 1080p but my laptop can't edit it.
The autofocus is pretty good on this.
Máš top akcent :D
Me and my jowa waaaaa uuwi uuwi na sya wa.... 😂
You didn't peel the plastic... off the display...... 😭
The accent its the best
Приведёная энергетическая ёмкость.
I finally have a true USB-C Powerbank since a few weeks and it still amazes me. It's a totally different 'dimension' if you are used to those crappy Micro-USB ones.
Love your Videos, btw.
Just wait before the chinese discover usb-c.
13:21 the black board contains more chips than a bag of chips.
nice cat xD
What breed is your cat
@17:26 I could translate the Chinese documentation if you need it. I don't charge money for small translation projects like that; it's fun!
18:03 "MM" in the absolute maximum ratings. Same as the "name" of the power bank (coincidence?). Wonder what that 200V rating is? Isolation, maybe?
Can you make another video wen you test 18650 cells pls?
i like cat : )
It is surely feasible to have a 10,000 mAh power bank. iPads have batteries of these siz
Please make video on electric vehicles controller ,on board charger, evse etc.
i have done thar with my chargers and with my batteries power banks when i connected filament lamps directly without a diode is just like ups inverter with a low voltage indicator
Why dont you make this battery 9900mah by puting 3 3300mah battery.
Good kitty cat
What the hell only 1.25 time boost conversion
i can't find you website.. please provide. i make the battery analysis tool.. please help please.thank you so much it was a great video
GPS datasheet :-D
Those are 3.00 or there about without the 18650 batteries on eBay
Good video m8
is short circuit protection when it detect your wire resistance it intimidate short circuit protection inside you are measuring wrong electronic power bcz need a diode before in the series with those resistors thats why those are not dodgy but you are measuring wrong
thaditts niyyyyyycccee
Sounds like runforthecube
Im only here for the cat
what clamp multimeter is that ?
It is Uni-t UT210E
Wow, only ~2.9 Ah when discharged through the ports vs 4.5 Ah when directly discharged from the cells--what a crappy powerbank!
what species of cat is tht, your cat looks like those cats in scientists labs:)
INIU is the Best power bank ever
My powerbank gives 1.8A at 4.93V (port 1 @2A) and 1.9A at 4.91V (port 2 @2.1A)
Nobody cares.
čekal sem že to bude tak may 3000mah
Discharge the LiPo's before open the case. Less charge means less fire 😅
It will completely and permanently destroy the lithium cells to discharge them. That would be stupid, which is why nobody does that.
Did anybody notice the PCB was version 4.0??? How bad was 1.0?!? 1.0 = just take your phone's charge cord and stab it into an actual potato.
