I stumbled upon this channel because of your OP fan letter reaction, and then scrolled through and saw Ping-Pong animation reaction. My #1 and #2 anime of all time. This channel deserves more. Love your genuine reactions and really good insight in the end. This episode is still one of my top 5 episodes all time in anime, just because it showed the perfect representation of a much higher place in sports that only talented players can reach and enjoy. It's uncomfortable for most boys at his age to openly discuss their feelings and inner thoughts, but you give him a safe and fun place to do that- kind of like Peco😄

Love this episode. The Kazama flashback is a bit cryptic. Here's what I think happened: * His dad killed himself because he couldn't handle the pressure. Wanted to be free from it like a bird. * Kazama started to cry in the bathroom. Decides that some birds can't fly. * His outside family only cares about business/money and looked down on his father/their family. Didn't respect him even at his funeral. * Kazama wanted to angrily speak out against them at his funeral, but was stopped by his mother, because it's against traditionalist values to speak out of turn. He was taught to swallow his pride/control himself. * Kazama's family/mother is poor and could never afford the expensive items at a restaurants. Even as a child, Kazama knew this and pretended to like the cheapest item on the menu (Udon) for her sake, while all the other kids demanded the better items. This is the first example we see of him putting his family's needs over himself/what he wants.
