Try a section of the ozark highlands trail! It actually starts in fort smith at lake fort smith! It’s a beautiful trail. Devils den also has a great beginner backpacking trail -Butterfield trail! I highly recommend, it was one of the first trail I backpacked !
This trail was my very 1st overnight trip. I've since done it like 6 times. I see they have some new signs. You stayed at Rock Hole camp. At the end the BHT doesnt cross the creek, that's the horse trail but it did provide some different views. Devils Den is a great place

Caveman Outdoors we def went the wrong way! I figured that out when I went and hiked the horse trail a few months later 😅
