  • This is a 20 years old Yamaha EF1000 generator that I bought in a garage sale. It has not been used for many years and now it does not run. First thing first is the spark test which does has spark. So the next step will be carburetor cleaning which this video will give you some basic steps to locate the carburetor and disassemble it. It does not show you the detail steps of how to clean the carburetor because there are those videos on RUclips. Most people need the information about any machine repair is how to take it apart, which this video will give you some idea.

    That oil fill cover is a great example of why Japanese engineering is good. Thoughtful design accounting for all use scenarios.

    Very easy to clean. Just one pull and it runs like a dream.

    I went through and disassembled the main components of the carb and hit them with carb cleaner. No dice. There are two jets in this carb, and I suspect that I only cleaned the vertical jet well enough to get fuel through it. I'm going to re clean the horizontal jet tomorrow and try again.

      Does the generator run with the spray of the starting fluid? If it dose, then it is the fuel problem. If not, should check whether you got the sparks or not.

    Does anyone know if the needle and seat is supposed to have a small rubber O-ring inside the barrel where the needle push"s against ?. I cleaned the carb and now it leaks out the vent tube when I turn the gas on. The float is good and needle metal tip is lightly sanded and cleaned. but there is no rubber down in the hole just looks to be a brass seat.. I took apart carb 3 times and still leaks.

    I'm having an issue with the fuel valve not shutting off all the way and it looks like the plastic valve behind the shut off is cracked. I have it off and plan on glueing it back together. Can you post a picture of the front cover off, because I'm not sure how the fuel lever goes back on.

    Generator sat for a couple years. Added fuel and started first pull! But gas leaks out the drip tube on the side with the grounding but. What could cause this?

    • @erguy6319
      @erguy6319  5 лет назад

      Most dripping fuel problem is the carburetor float is stuck in some degree, since your generator has not been used for 2 years. You can google about the carburetor, I am sure there are plenty info about it. Basically the carburetor needs be cleaned.

      Can you post a picture here? May be a stocked needle valve in the carburetor bowl so the carburetor float can not close the needle valve when the bowl is full. If you can, just clean the carburetor may resolve the problem.

      Either The fuel cock is leaking or the bowl float is sticking...

    The gas was drained from the EF1000 completely before storing. The EF1000 starts and runs even after sitting for several years without using. My only problem is that it is leaking gas from somewhere I can't seem to find even after taking 3 covers off and using a flashlight. Has anyone any suggestions on troubleshooting a leak? (Erguy, thanks for this great video.)

      Hello, I would try to replace all the rubber fuel lines . Since the gen is about 20-30 years old, the rubber fuel lines might have cracks, especially in the portions which connecting to the fuel tank and carburetor.

      There is fuel dye you can purchase, you will need a blacklight flashlight to see most of types of the dye I believe, hopefully this helps

      @@erguy6319 ok i was thinking there was a fill plug and drain plug. I just did a oil change on it. I really like this little machine it's pretty quiet, and runs well! I believe it to made back in 1985. Things were simple back then! Thank you

    Are these good generators?

    • @erguy6319
      @erguy6319  5 лет назад +1

      I think the most important part is the engine section, that is why Honda generators are more expensive since they have very reliable engines. If engine can not start when you need, the generator is useless. In general, Yamaha makes good engine. This Yamaha generator is older one, there are many new ones on the market. Since most people do not use the generator frequently, so it is very important to add Sta-Bil fuel stablizer in the gas tank.

      I think Yamaha is the most reliable & quietest portable generator. I've read that Yamaha EF1000 particularly is more powerful and reliable than newer ones. I traded a much larger newer Yamaha 3000iSEB for a well used older and smaller Yamaha EF1000. Long story short, I paid a Yamaha dealer $500 to clean it up and get it running for me, but it continually surged. Then I saw a RUclips video that recommended soaking the carb and all carb parts in Pinesol & warm water. I did that a few times and now this 20 year + generator runs like a new one. I added SeaFoam to gas and I crank it every other month and, happily, it starts with the 1st pull every time. Lots of folks recommend Stabil, but I believe SeaFoam is much better for small gas engines.
