Dear Mr. Wiltshire Man - can I just call you Wilts, for short?! (o; I've just paused you, going to watch the other half with coffee and buttered toast. You have no idea what delight and quiet pleasure this brings me. My own absence from motorcycle riding has been extended for reasons various, which is a blow, but this is just what the doctor ordered. I love riding my Moto Guzzi down that 'Wroughton towards Avebury' road more than any other road that I have yet ridden. Have to "give it beans" up that hill out of Wroughton just the same to keep speeds legal-ish but without slogging the engine. And those Beech clumps always catch my eye and I try to find the word or words for something they always convey to me: spooky? wise? overseeing? indifferent? majestic? ancient? I dunno, but they speak to me, without speaking if you see what I mean. Never have photographed them to my satisfaction, but always always admire them. I see things on those hills too. I'm not loony-tunes. It's a mysterious area. "Deeper into Wessex" I call that journey, given my start-point and destination(s). Anyway, the toast won't burn itself, tally-ho. And thank you sir, for the content and for the contentment which it brings to me.
Hi Barry I understand what you say about the landscape around here, there is something magical something special about it. It has been all planted up over the years by man with his crops and tree's but it is also a very ancient landscape indeed

Its great to see you ride around Wiltshire, I'm from the Hants/Wits border but have been living in France for the past 30 years. The thing I miss the most are the plain and the downs .I can't grumble though as I live close to the Pyrenees mountains so motor cycling is a joy here too .keep up the good work. Cheers

Nice ride out Sandy, and the Beach wood clumps at Hack pen have made a fine place for a wild camps for me a few times. And Barbury has been a home for a night one winter on a walk from Avebury to Wayland Smithy and back. Love this area of the country . Good video thanks for taking us along mate.

Lovely video of a beautiful area that we have enjoyed numerous times! We tackled that by way via back route of Barbury last Sunday in a lowered mini....! Got as far as the bit where it turns to mud and had to go back... luckily was right on a turning circle spot! Saw lots of wildlife and a beautiful sunset. Great following you on the bike, thanks for the cheery video 😃

You never fail us Sandy! Beautiful ... still trying to figure out the round (planted) trees. Normally, they are planted in straight lines "like streets" - do you think maybe this has something to do with "round-a-bouts" (ok, that was a Dad joke). Anyway, F. Henge was nice also. Keep'em coming!!
Lovely ride and brilliantly edited video. I found this one particularly relaxing - thank you so much. This is an area we drive past on route from Kidderminster to Bournemouth so I am tempted to bimble down on the Townmate later this summer and explore these wonderful byways.
great vidio, nice countryside where you live, iv had my new himalayan for 10 days now, iv done 600 miles on it now. im very happy with the bike and just plodding around east sussex a/b roads
For journeying along the back roads and keeping the speeds down the Himalayan is a very satisfying and frugal bike to ride. 80 mpg. I find my bike likes to cruise at 55 to 60 mph so if you don't mind those speeds then it's fine. It's about the journey anyway:)

I always enjoy your little poddles about . I have never heard of that little wooden Henge. I will have to have a google find out how old it is . I wondered if the beech tree islands are to do with maintaining supplies of firewood/furniture making kit or even ensuring habitat for things like bunnies (carry over of the old Warren concept) , or even breeding sites for edible birds etc ?
Hi Will, I reckon those small circular beech woods were planted for ornamental purposes, they are very nice to see. Not sure how old they are, could have been planted when the Hackpen white horse was carved

I liked this one Sandy. Good to picture the route with the map first. I am planning to explore some tracks this weekend near where I live on the Costa del Sol. Also I will take my tent for some wild camping. Last time I was woken up by wild boars sniffing around outside, thankfully they didn't interfere with me. You are my inspiration!
I remember riding up that steep hill many years ago when I visited Bill's bike barn to look at a Norton. Happy days will have to do that trip again some time
Lovely ride. You’ve probably been lots, but another beautiful spot in that area is Green Street just off the main Ridgeway above Avebury - through Fyfield Down and through the fields of sarsen stones and the Devils Den. It will bring you out close to where you finished. Well worth a look at the Devils Den. Thanks for another great video.

Fantastic Sandy 👍🏻 Loved knowing the route before you set off. Stunning scenery. Those circles of trees are amazing. A bit like we’ve got up here. But ours are geometric patterns. Nice ride Sandy, me and my mate were over that way last week and parked at 4 mile clump for a coffee, there’s a gate set back! It was gone 23:30 and we could see some lights in the distance which we couldn’t work out, I now think it was a 4x4 with some powerful lights on the byway you did in this video...another one we can now have a go at! Thanks for sharing mate!

Great video Sandy , I been venturing a few lanes in the landrover . I don't the one from rockley to Bradbury and a good network of them sugar hill near liddington farm also some interesting ones by snap where I'm sure you have explored by GB3TD repeter location . Keep it up .
@@WiltshireMan yes it was very muddy before lockdown. Sugar hill is steep but once get through the gate it's pretty easy going . Nice woodland up there .
Love the vid, as I've said before I miss the Marlborough Downs and the Ridgeway. Should have turned left at the end for Rockley and the back up other side 4 mile clump and Barbury Castle, make a a nice loop
Mine doesn't clatter underload at all, Nathan millwood mentioned a clatter on pickup while traveling the US, turned out to be head gasket had gone! 6k miles across USA with a blown head gasket..... What an engine!!
Dan, personally I think my bike has an issue. The clattering is becoming worse in my opinion. The dealer says it is normal. We shall see. Apart from the engine noise I quite like the bike.
@@WiltshireMan it's not normal, see if you can test ride another! Mine doesn't have a clatter and surely anything 'normal' shouldn't be getting worse! I had the tapping a year ago, new top end put on and that sorted that out!

I've never camped in them but sure they would make a good place for any rambler. Avebury to Wayland smith and back is around 50 miles. A nice jaunt

Also I will take my tent for some wild camping. Last time I was woken up by wild boars sniffing around outside, thankfully they didn't interfere with me. You are my inspiration!

I remember riding up that steep hill many years ago when I visited Bill's bike barn to look at a Norton. Happy days will have to do that trip again some time

Lovely ride. You’ve probably been lots, but another beautiful spot in that area is Green Street just off the main Ridgeway above Avebury - through Fyfield Down and through the fields of sarsen stones and the Devils Den. It will bring you out close to where you finished. Well worth a look at the Devils Den. Thanks for another great video.
I love Devils den, been there many times Steve though didn't know of a byway that went close to it. I'll have to check.

Loved knowing the route before you set off. Stunning scenery. Those circles of trees are amazing. A bit like we’ve got up here. But ours are geometric patterns. Look up Amble Northumberland and look on google earth 🌎 you’ll see our weird and wonderful clumps.

A copse on a hillside, or woodland... It's mostly fields..They were routed by the ruts in the road. A good cross country run. 💚 🧙♂️ 🇧🇦

Nice ride Sandy, me and my mate were over that way last week and parked at 4 mile clump for a coffee, there’s a gate set back!
It was gone 23:30 and we could see some lights in the distance which we couldn’t work out, I now think it was a 4x4 with some powerful lights on the byway you did in this video...another one we can now have a go at! Thanks for sharing mate!

Great video Sandy , I been venturing a few lanes in the landrover . I don't the one from rockley to Bradbury and a good network of them sugar hill near liddington farm also some interesting ones by snap where I'm sure you have explored by GB3TD repeter location . Keep it up .
Hi Matt, I rode the Snap byway back a few moths ago. It was very very muddy back then. Not been up the sugar hill one's yet
@@WiltshireMan yes it was very muddy before lockdown. Sugar hill is steep but once get through the gate it's pretty easy going . Nice woodland up there .

Love the vid, as I've said before I miss the Marlborough Downs and the Ridgeway. Should have turned left at the end for Rockley and the back up other side 4 mile clump and Barbury Castle, make a a nice loop

Mine doesn't clatter underload at all, Nathan millwood mentioned a clatter on pickup while traveling the US, turned out to be head gasket had gone! 6k miles across USA with a blown head gasket..... What an engine!!
Dan, personally I think my bike has an issue. The clattering is becoming worse in my opinion. The dealer says it is normal. We shall see. Apart from the engine noise I quite like the bike.
@@WiltshireMan it's not normal, see if you can test ride another! Mine doesn't have a clatter and surely anything 'normal' shouldn't be getting worse! I had the tapping a year ago, new top end put on and that sorted that out!
