Using a cruise travel agent to book is a good idea. Tell them that you are prone to feeling seasick on ships. They will move heaven and earth to get you a stable location on the ship, usually midship and low deck.
I have only been on one cruise and it was to Alaska and it was wonderful and we had a balcony and I DO know that if cruising again, a balcony is a MUST for me.

Cruises aren't as expensive as you think they are. Also, you know nothing of their financial situation to be making those kinds of judgements. With proper financial planning, one could afford to go on a cruise (even a short one). Sounds like a spoilsport to me.
