ENGINE CARNAGE! - Record holding VW goes BOOM!

- FWD Volkswagens running low 9’s? Pushing almost 900hp out of a 1.8L engine? With power to displacement like that, these VW’s are starting to rival rotary engines in terms of output! With high hopes, this Volkswagen GTI was TEARING down the strip at Maryland International Raceway with the intent to go rounds and compete in Import Vs Domestic’s True Street Class. While we may not get to see these small monstrosities, Mike Pauciullo is no stranger to them at all! Running this platform and setup for years in search of its limitations, it would appear he’s found a weak point. We never like to see racers hard earned money destroy itself, but in this situation at least the engine’s last pass was something he can brag about!

engine said fuck all this boost we out
Gabriel Rosales best comment on this channel I've seen in a while 😂
Gabriel Rosales cow chop (:
Optimism is when your engine split in two by itself but you still say: "Hey this part is still good"
Yeah. I think he had optimism because he knew one day it was gonna blow up. He has the money to build another, and probably more powerful and reliable than this one. Let's hope so.
Nothing a little jb weld can't fix.
How to install geos for golf mk3
You know u did it correct when u jack it up and the crank falls on the ground.
peppy3200 lmao that part
H&P Customs lmao
Never seen that before!!
Full send
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! - Be thankful this isn't your engine! :P
Thanks for uploading guys. FreestylerAlbert mentioned Boba Racing, have you ever traveled anywhere close to where they are? Their 1200hp VW Mk2 or Mk3 AWD Golf is simply nuts. That would make a great feature for next year.
2:44 :O
1320video Happy Thanksgiving to you to
I am sure that when the crank falls out like that it means your engine is fucked!
Good as new
Maybe it's the new longer stroke version? Never mind variable valve timing, this dub comes with variable stroke length!!
You global?
When an engine grenades like that the owners cry but the mechanics look on it as an opportunity to build a more powerful version with all new bits!
Wonder if the check engine light came on
Hey 1320. I just got my hat, shift and stickers from you guys. Went to get some lunch wearing the new gear and the price was $13.20.
I had a little laugh to myself.
Happy thanksgiving from Australia.
We love when that happens to us! Enjoy your swag in the down unda!
My last reckless driving ticket was $1,320..... go figure
I can fix that with a beer. Here take my wrench.
Flamesthatburn331 lol
Hold my wrench*
I've never seen one blown apart that bad! Going out on an almost record breaking run is the only way to go out
Jesse Ray most definitely. right on man.
Jesse Ray not the only way to go out... I mean, I'd rather go out on an actual record breaking run but that's just me
No kidding? Well that's just special. There always has to be people like you that have to state the obvious. . . .
Damn engine split into 2 chunks
the block*
the engine, as a whole, akshooter762. looks like it misfired and locked itself, which blew the whole rotating assembly down. cant believe he blew all the bearing bridges off the block. more impressed how the head actually held through this!
It’s my understanding that he actually decided against using a block girdle at the last moment and the block just tore itself apart on the last pass.
In the Dictionary, under "blown engine", is a photo of this carnage.
Doesn't seem like the rotating assembly failed just the block wasn't up to the task.
whatyareckon the stock park of the block, the bottom I guess.
this needs a crank girdle. i here people use diesel blocks to build these too. either or both i imagine would work, at least for a little bit.
Bryen Goheen-Mike had a lot of miles on this block before she let loose.
Also you can see that not even billet main caps were installed...It's quite impressive that the engine held that well with the stock cast caps. It seems to me that some serious crank walk happened there and we can see the result. I believe a built bottom end with tall billet caps and a thick main girdle would help keeping the rotating mass in place, especially in an engine that revs so high and is being abused with tons of boost. No worries though, all these are part of this sport and the owner should be very happy with his time!
He was cramming 35 - 40 pounds of boost in the engine then dropped the bottom end.
I've never seen a motor that bad.like shit there blowing a motor then there's JUNKING a motor
rip meek miLL I've been watching for years and I've never seen that either
The only ones that have never broken anything also have never done anything.
I have a wall full of failed parts from my STi on display at my home. Unfortunately, sometimes you can't see the line until you step across it...
"Ahh, the VW Quick Release Crank! I hear that's how they change oil!"
HOLY SHIT, never seen any engine blow up like that before
jack from online I seen it two times both Puerto Ricans cars.. The first one was a CRX..
our European cars are built so compact if something blows up it tears through the rest of the car like a cannonball.
8,29.. BOBA racing VW
En AWD
FreestylerAlbert very true yet they stated if I am correct MK4 record Vampir is a MK2
Yeah it's too bad, that Boba Racing can't attend any of these events.
MK2 2.0 ABF Engine eXtreme-tuners turbo (yeah the one u all hate) , AWD !!
8.45 was with FWD
fastes Golf in germany 8,29sec..... Golf mk2 AWD 1.8L 1253hp
and greetings from germany to 1320video Crew !!!
Greetings from America!
Mirco Hemmer how many runs do you get on the motor before it blows....5 😅😅😅
Brian Samuels we have a few early gtis with 600+ HP running around, street legal
check out 16Vampire for instance
there is also one that is like "team bobo" or something, can't remember right now
this one is still a FWD... AWD has much more grip...
I never seen the entire block literally destroyed ,,literally in piece like that. Wow. I bet he can get a lot of data from that.
the crankshaft fell out damn
hey 30GB you have just been spotted :D
30GB Hey it's you again! :3 yiff
Sweet brown jebus, that motor just fell out like dumping cereal out of a box lmfao
Lol, never seen that happen before. But considering it had an FSI crank, it was probably a 2.0L or maybe even 2.1L, but I doubt that. Very nice result nonetheless! (Apart from the engine falling apart..)
I can fix that, who's got my screwdriver?
thats actually amazing. clutch flywheel crank pistons and all fell out the bottem of that block.... quite staggering. good Ol vw😂😂
"Well there's your problem"
lmao
in brasil fwd make 8.5 in 1/4 mile
Edit:7.57 now
Thorsten Middendorf has run a 8.45 at 165 mph in his Mk1 Golf, Fastest FWD car in Europe
and this on a absolutly non preb airfield only the rubber from the tires on the ground
for me this is more impressing in my opinion
these guys here in the video drive a high 8 on a dragstrip
sorry for my bad english
greetings from Germany
sorry my fault the 8,8 from Thorsten Middendorf was on the airfield not the 8.45
There are B and K Series Civics running 7s.
This is why Japan > Germany
bonamin when everyone uses civics it becomes a bit meh
@odzadze123 checked it out. You guys aren't running anywhere near a 1/4 mile. Running a full 1/4mi is a LOT harder on the engine too.
Lol why I got out of the 4 banger fwd life
Daniel Bargas Fast cars and women are expensive. ...no way around it😨
+Tyler D. Yeah I built a 93 mustang notch back foxbody with a dual carbed ford 460 nitrous big block and c4 3 speed auto, now I do 8.91@ 157 in the 1/4, no fwd car can touch that
Daniel Bargas Didn't a 2.0 civic just go 7.6 @199 not too long ago??
+SuperSebas42 it was the speed factory k20 hatch that did 8.15@200, you're talking a fully built everything civic, lots of rwd twin turbo v8's doing 8's 7's 6's and very few are actually hitting the high 5's now that's a fully built rwd car that isn't top fuel, 8.15@200 vs 5 something at 250+ yeah rwd v8's for the win
Daniel Bargas Naa RWD I6 FTW
Just waiting for a check engine light comment lol
Happy Thanksgiving 1320Video Crew!!!
Same to you and your family Carlos! Thanks for watching!
1320video Thank You so much for replying and Thank you.
The only thing that can be said. WOW that's FUCKED UP!!!!
8sec pass while breaking the motor, legit!
This is why soda bottle engines will always be inferior. They might be "cool" because they get a lot of power out of small displacement, but they are way more likely to grenade themselves because the engines by design are simply not able to handle that amount of power.
Taylor Howard no shit. take any factory block and push it to its absolute limits and tell me how it works out for you. not everyone has the luxury of using aftermarket blocks. his options are stock or a 10k plus custom billet.
Taylor Howard.... still ran 8.87 with that bottle engine. How fast have you've gone ?
Casey Johnson - There's another option, a beefy old diesel 2L cast iron block.
@1320 Well you weren't kidding, that thing definitely went BOOM!! Carnage is right, I've seen a lot of bad blow-ups but never have I seen one literally spit the whole rotating assembly out of the bottom of the block! Damn...
That engine yelled wallah snackbar and then it was no more
That is quite impressive. It reminds me of that video of the Cummins grenading on a dyno. That was equally impressive.
1.8 20v engine blocks are known not to break. Crazy that this happened and the way it did is even crazier. People on forums seriously brag about its durability. I wonder what exactly happened.... hmmmm....
Anyone mentioning the 16Vampir and any other VW tuned by Boba Motoring, the FWD Mk1 went 8.86 @ 260KM/H, the rest are all 4WD
A quick oil change & some lube will fix that right up.
This is why you build a vr6
well i've heard the term 'spat the crank out' before but this is the first time i've seen it'
that thing literally just got rid of the whole bottom part of the engine!!! great run though
Well, that's one way to remove an engine! Not recommended but it is one way!
Prolly the first time ive seen a complete block split in half and drop the crank...seen cracks..chunks..not complete from one end to other...shew
drag cartel civic is fwd and n/a and does high 8's. Thats impressive. But this ones too. Never seen an engine disassemble itself that far.
vw lost to the Mustang and that truck. where's the record holding vw???
fastest fwd VW
in eu theres a mk1 golf 1.8t fwd that did 8.8s but it's dsg.
abit faster now... Thorsten Middendorf (GER) - VW Golf -8.457@165.47mph
now they should use the vr6 engine , that wont disapoint fo sho
Na the vr6 doesn't take high boost, what you want is a beefy cast iron 2L diesel block
thats also good , but vr6 is better tho , and the sound , the best
I suppose if you're going to blow it up, you may as well go big! WOW!
Whats the problem? The engines missing. What plugs, leads or coils? Na Bro the engine is missing, gone lol
The block in my Honda would say f*** it with anything over 300 HP or so.
World Record? We Germans have a mk1 awd with 1150hp which Runs 8.3s the quarter. And Many Other mk1's, 2's and so on
Eric Mauli Jr. he said record hold fwd buddy
Lol, so with 250 more hp and AWD, Germans can only make a car that's half a second faster in the 1/4 mile than a FWD with 900 hp.
@odzadze123 not running a 1/4 mile. If those guys had WORLD record holding cars, they'd be known in the world, especially U.S. and Europe because there is a lot more money to be made in those areas. Pro level drag cars are advertising. Not trying to be rude, just being honest.
on the up side should be pretty easy to pull rest of engine out.
I drive a vw with an Aeb 1.8 and a guy I trust told me with stock bottom end I was good to 300hp and if I put rods and Pistons it could hold 550. 900 is insane.
Not as fast as the CC civic doee lol
There was very little left of the original 1.8L to be pushing 900HP....
ok
Tim Ososkalo I just mention this because the Description makes it sound like this engine is capable of doing so on stock components...
I can go and swap everything out of a K series engine and call it a "2000HP Capable Engine" too... Just don't mention I basically CNC´d the shit out the engine completely.
Yeah, it does kind seem like a strange statement, but I guess the point is that it's making that much power out of a 1.8 liter engine, even if it's fully forged and running a huge ass turbo, they didn't stroke it or overbore it to increase the displacement.
Well Honda guys have been pushing 1000HP out of the B18 too but again there was very little left of OEM Parts in those B18s hahahahaha.
skirmich
Well, it's still impressive, as it's a tiny ass engine even if it's almost an entirely build race engine.
Proof engines always run best just before they blow themselves apart.
Looks like a hand grenade went off inside the motor. Good lord.
What.?.!!..The scrutineers want to look inside my engine?..Ok....Man what a mess.
a bit of elbow grease and that will buff out
dam 8.87!! right on
That car can LOOSELY be described as a Volkswagen
Gino Listo He created a new brand of Volkswagon-the Brokewagon.
markus irvin thats nothing new 😂😂😂brokewagen
NOTHING BUT RESPECT to the owner. You know the golf was doing OK on the 9s ... He prolly raised the boost to achieve 8s . Still very impressive for a 1.8T
Goddamn he roasted that motor hell yeah go big or go home
wd40 that shit back together.
WOW Toque Meet your friend HORSEPOWER. or vise versa :)
ok sorry... torque ............ fin auto crapcorrect ..... yall know what I mean
Well. If your gonna do something do it right... That one ranks right up there with the tracker pull rig tossing everything but it's internals then running over the block.
I have heard of throwing a rod but Christ this dude threw a block.
215Sugarfree Do they have block throwing in the Olympics? He would win hands down
I think these times are manipulated :D
They couldn't fix that before the next run?? Amateurs :p
Kidding, sick stuff!! Love seeing 4 Cylinder / FWD cars run with RWD V8's...
Daaaaammmnn, I've never seen an engine self destruct like that, maybe a conrod through the block etc but daaammmnnn
If you're not going to run over your crank, that's close enough! If you puffed your head gasket, you didn't "blow your motor". At least aluminum rods are relatively cheap.
main caps let go...sent the crank out the bottom of the block and most likely a few pistons into the head...... Ouch.
Video title is confusing people it seems. It has never been the fastest VW, it's the fastest MK4 Golf.
Terrible thing to happen but amazed at the amount of carnage. The motor grenades but the shafts shrugged it off.
Dyno sheet 🤔🤔🤔🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
ah yes. the block delete.
Consider changing platforms! Recommend the tried / true 4G63 iron block
Minus Previous He just needs some billet caps and a girdle :)
Putting aside custom builds this seems to be a theme with Golf carts and VW in general. Friend of mine had a Jetta, and he got tired of fixing all the shit that kept falling off and breaking on it. Especially considering that his wife kept nagging him about it, and that she was right about it.
I met this guy up at Mason Dixon dragway the other week and he's pretty cool. Said he's busted a couple trans cases after this. Car ran pretty well.
this shows the power 1.8T vw engines are capable of and some people (most) tell me they are just economy cars, yea right im a major enthusiast and this is the shit.
Trump was elected, crankshaft decided to immigrate to ground, had to go through oil pan, blown motor. But on a serious note what the hell happened for that to happen? Main cap came loose?
You're going to have to change the description from 4cylinder 800hp mr2's to 4cylinder 900hp vw's XD
"engine failed during last pass"...LOL more like blew the fuck into smithereens..made a nice pass though thats for sure
"Engine failure"... that's a little more than engine failure. Makes it seem like an ignition coil pack blew or something with "engine failure". That was insane.
your first problem was choosing a GTI. hideous hatchback. I put with with that little egg looking piece of shit Fiat.
This is the LEAST click-bait video this channel has ever produced. That thing got fucking obliterated.
I'd say there's 2 hours of work saved right there. Engine disassembled by itself and ready for inspection!!
Why not go with a proven RWD V8 drag platform instead?
should've used a vr6
Themayseffect lol vr6
The vr6 doesn't take high boost, get a 2L diesel block and build everything
Hjembrent Kent the fuck are you talking about? The vr6, any variant, can take high boost just fine. There are several guys running over 30psi on vr6 engines.
this shows how shitty vws are, every vw that i have ever raced has seen my nice mr2 jdm taillights
Holy shit that thing just went ejecto seato lol. But 900hp out of 1.8L with that much boost? VE seems a bit low?
See the brazilian drag race, they produce 900+ HP using an 8v cylinder head... are insanes !!
prolly just need some new spark plugs
bibli ography yeah
yo 1320!! whats the song's name you guys use at the end? makes me headbang everytime!! keep up the good work guys
see SAVEIRO VITURRO , and more of that equip or races from Galvez quarter mile races
Never seen a block fall apart like that, whoa. Nice pass though.
So now he should buy a VR6 and break his record...the crank falling out was glorious though
hahaha shity vw xD build a civic man, and you will be in the 7sec ;)
Well, next time use an oil pan.... LMAO
I saw an oil catch pan, but the actual oil pan? Where it go?
That's what happens when you have too much faith in your lawn mower.
