+Nikolaj Lepka This is exactly what I was thinking. I wonder if systems similar to this will be used for tournament play in the future. Seems like the ultimate way to give multiple gamers the EXACT same experience in order to have no unfair advantages. They should all even run at almost exactly the same temperatures thanks to the single huge water cooling loop... Pretty cool.
+Dennis Gäbler And in fact technically pretty much all of our computers do. Technically each core of a multicore CPU is a CPU in itself. They just all happen to be on one chip
+Man of Low Moral Fiber Its all the same to the mother board and system. You cannot run two kernels simultaneously with these 2 CPUs and they act effectively as a single unit.

Which then brings up another question... if the cost is reduced by nearly half does something of this magnitude become a better solution than having individual machines (since this uses less power than 7 machines at max, and produces less noise and heat than 7 machines)? Yes there would probably be a ton of software issues that's a given."

+xSIMONSIGGEx linus has said before that most of their builds get disassembled back into their inventory so they can use the parts for other videos later. some parts are also loaned to them by the manufacturer who will want them back, i would expect Kingston will want their 256gb of ddr4 memory back, its probably way too expensive to just give away for one project.

+derkevevin Actually, you would be surprised. Getting twice the FPS needs more than twice the processing power (see their video about the 480 vs the breadbox and piss-station)
+MrDrTheJniac yeah, but a game like pong? the 1 trillion fps is an exaggeration, but even a normal high end pc would probably do like 1000fps. maybe even more if optimized. i have some experience because of some simple games i made in game maker. though, im wondering why my graphics card didnt break a sweat doing like 800fps because there is no fps cap. there are some real games that make your gpu run hot if they are not fps capped. maybe its because of the memory? (since a game like pong would use next to no gpu ram)

Would love to hear the response from Kingston and caseloads when they said we'll we are just gonna use double sided tape to secure these ssd's
*caselabs
+kingofengland111 I expect at CES the side with the SSDs will be showing to visitors, so they will be happy with the presentation.
+kingofengland111 They knew what to expect when the sponsored LTT
+kingofengland111 That's kinda normal actually, quite a number of people actually do that. Although I'd figure CaseLabs would send in the adapters just before CES maybe.
+kingofengland111 they're SSD's they weigh next to nothing and have no moving parts, it's not like double sided tape hurts them, plus it gives a unique way of displaying the hardware (while showing FULL LABEL) that will get people to remember it more (which is really the whole point of these kinds of shows).
Ah yes, back when AMD was still suffering from its Bulldozer scandal and people joked about cooking on their cpu's, and Intel reigned king in all spectra.
I think AMD still won on price/performance though
@@mynameisleeyesitis only in the absolute low end, if you wanted to build something with good p/p you got an i5
7 Gamers, 1 CPU... within one minute we see a dual CPU board... lawl.
0:28 holy shit did Luke always have a belly this big?
+prepareuranus Beer.
Rob Luce
He doesn't drink. He said so in the last WAN show.
Jared
Yea that's the most likely explanation lol.
+prepareuranus He should just cut down on some carbs and everything will be alright.
+prepareuranus the answer is found on Linus' tshirt lol
7 Gamers, 2 CPUs
Linus really is the absolute madman!
+davidhg117 2 CPUs*
+RHINO_Mk.II It's in the same scheme as their "2 gamers 1 CPU" video.
CPU --> CUP
2 gamers 1 cup
2 girls 1 cup
Kingston's going to love sponsoring this kind of video.
+davidhg117 Indeed!
RHINO_Mk.II whoops, edited now, i wrote this based in the title
+davidhg117 Technically 1CPU is not wrong. CPU stands for more than Central Processing Unit. IT can also stand for other things like Cost Per Unit etcetra. In this case, it probably stands for Computer Processing Unit. Which essentially what this is.

"Because there isn't a CPU on the market that could deliver a full-on, high-end gaming experience to seven gamers all at the same time."
Me in 2020: **laughs in Threadripper**
Clownripper
that line really didn't age well
@@autumnakbel Why?
@@nicky2575 this video was made before AMD released ryzen. Nowadays with threadripper (and with Epyc but that's more server-oriented) you can get up to 64 cores on a single cpu
@@autumnakbel oh right yeah sorry I thought you meant AMD had messed up
Wow... This is truly why I subscribed to you.. :)
+Ishan Sethi Wow indeed. Linus always manages to amaze and he succeeds!
+Ishan Sethi Yes, truth you speak my friend.
+Alpha Gamer Yes he does
GlueGaming Imagine if he decided to do something ridiculous like whole room water-cooling again (probably never, good to see that Linus has learnt his lesson) or if he converted all of the editing workstations to a single machine like in this video and rackmount it in the server room! That would be EPIC
Slow clap ;)

Actually 3d printing marijuana😂😂😂😂
+Govardhan Mane I wish. That would be awesome
Why build 1 PC for 1 gamer, if for 15 times the price, you can build 1 PC for 7 gamers :)
Answer: Because Linus is Love, Linus if Life!
+Hobbit Stomper this build wasnt supposed to be cost effective. It was meant to be overkill and overpriced
Phillip Wu I'm fully aware of that :) It's just a joke comment. I love Linus :D
Hobbit Stomper oh okay. all good
Phillip Wu This PC build will bring the term "playing with yourself" to a whole new level.
+Hobbit Stomper It does save money in electricity savings, and office space. It also prevents users from physically accessing the machine, let's say at a LAN center. It's a solid business proposal for LAN centers.
Linus, loved the video, you should actually have everyone on channel super fun play some lan games or something
+ThePainlessGamer YES.
+ThePainlessGamer YES PLEASE LINUS. And be it some troll games plz. =)

;]
+clarkkent999 for me it says "7 Gamers, 1 CPU" (though he should list it as 2 CPUS as it does have 2 CPU blocks)
+Imsoevil711 Lmao Grames
Try it on threadripper!, 64 cores should give you 8 core to all of the 7 vms, and still 9 cores left to unraid, wich is a lot!
@Anonymous Gamer furthermore the threadripper uses a different processor soket than intel
If they do it again and if a dual socket x399 goes to linus wait for threadripper 3 with dual 64 cores
@@joekingsword2150 Or just a dual 64 core EPYC setup. Though even then, a single 64 core already doubles the thread count per VM.
No idea what cards they would use though.

fuck's sake linus
+slipAngle well reasons was because if you have a 2 cpu in theory the motherboard or the system will recognize it as a single cpu maybe...
+slipAngle central processing unit - the part of a computer in which operations are controlled and executed. ... no specification that it must be one processor unit

ESPLover™ log I'm on mobile with a curved screen I'm getting used to it
build 2 rigs like these, each for 5 or 6 gamers instead of 7, and you got 5v5 or 6v6 tournament machines ready to run
When i saw the 2 gamers 1 cpu video i thought of that and as i am thinking of opening a gaming internet cafe and thats an even better and crazier pc.
Farid Nicolas Wakim
you might have more luck just starting out with a ton of used hardware
it's way cheaper to get hold of, and you can get a ton of computers running in a short span of time instead of having to do this monstrosity. Then when you're rich you can upgrade :P
+Farid Nicolas Wakim When I saw 2 gamers 1 PC I was just glad there were no cups involved.
'3.5 gamers one cpu' doesn't sound as good.
you have been in the Studio for more than 6 years? Damn i am getting old holy moly
Those are two CPUs. It should say '7 Gamers, 1 PC'.
+Man of Low Moral Fiber even if it is on 2 chip, a pc can only have 1 cpu
+Pascal Lafrenière A PC can have multiple CPUs and this one does.
+Dennis Gäbler And in fact technically pretty much all of our computers do. Technically each core of a multicore CPU is a CPU in itself. They just all happen to be on one chip
+Man of Low Moral Fiber It's a play on '2 girls, 1 cup' I think...
+Man of Low Moral Fiber Its all the same to the mother board and system. You cannot run two kernels simultaneously with these 2 CPUs and they act effectively as a single unit.
This would be awesome for an Internet cafe. Instead of buying or building 28 machines, you set up four of these.
yeah -_- $120K for a fuckin internet cafe
+Muhammad AbdelMon'em well, there's dubai :D :D
+Muhammad AbdelMon'em You can use cheaper hardware and then it would be pretty reasnoble
+Muhammad AbdelMon'em could costt less i think "I feel like this build's cost could have been cut in half, Ok so lets say you go with 512GB SSD instead of 1TB and maybe instead of 7 1.5k monitors 7 $180 to $250 monitors and instead of 8* 32GB sticks you got 8* 16GB shouldn't this build cost then come down to around 16k or 17k? which then puts it at about 2.2k per PC which IS CLOSE to the cost of a normal liquid-cooled PC ofcomparable specs and performance to that of the virtualized machine?
Which then brings up another question... if the cost is reduced by nearly half does something of this magnitude become a better solution than having individual machines (since this uses less power than 7 machines at max, and produces less noise and heat than 7 machines)? Yes there would probably be a ton of software issues that's a given."
Because of the overhead needed for viaualisation and the price premium of high density products like the nano and the $2.7k cpus and the 32gb ram sticks. You're simply better off buying seperate machines.
I built this. I put it on my yacht next to my golden Lamborghini and Bentley.
In GTA V?
+Ãráfât Høssâiñ was gonna make that joke, but I didn't think it would go well xD still nice one

A yr ltr, still amazing. This is my current mobo but w/ E5-2667-V3 & 64g (8x16g) It's still an amazing system & fun to know its further potential in VM. I tried w/ 4 dual slot mis matched
7 Gamers, 2 CPUs**
+Plex Well if you want to be technical about it, 7 gamers, 56 CPUs
+PappaLitto Uhhh, 56 threads, 28 cores, two cpu's. So, no. Plex was accurate. You can't define a single thread as a cpu.
+GambieGames in windows a single logical processor is a CPU, a logical processor is a thread
+PappaLitto everyone gets 8 cpus, fuckin decent
+Plex Well technically the 2 CPUs are working together, thanks to the motherboard. I guess it's like the RAID of CPUs if you will.
the desktop pulls 1500w? if o tried to power that and all those monitors at the same time my electrical panel would trip
his property is not like an normal house an normal house geds around 250 volts in and he is probebly set to 330 vols 40 amps so he is able to run it as we normal peaple woudnt be able to do thad :)
hope my comment heped you :) greets a pc gamer - youtuber
he can run it using a 20 A breaker at 230 V including 7 monitors using 75 watts each. as long as its the only stuff running on the group
roader Matte yhe i know that, im just trying to make a point, a normal house can't handle this.
I have a 15amp breaker the voltage is between 220v and 250v so i get about 2,350w.
1500w + 52w * 7 monitors = 1,864w only for this pc
now we have to put into account all devices pluged in like the frige, lamps, tv's...
This setup may barely hold but i won't be able to turn on the heater or the oven
Tiago Oliveira i hope that your kitchen is on a different group than the rest of your house. because the kitchen demands lots of amps.
if i had the money to buy that computer i would have enough money to hire a electrician to add another group.
but most people will be ok with another breaker. (needing nothing else)
Tiago Oliveira 1500 watts isn't enough to trip the breaker for a 15 amp outlet...
WHAT IS THIS?!?!?!?
+potatoe potato This is madness

I would absolutely love to see this idea revisited with the AMD Threadripper or Epyc line.
Yeah, it'd be amazing.
It's only me, but I saw Linus installing 2 CPUs?
Yep
+RockyHD the board holds 2 badass CPUs
+RockyHD Their title is just a bit misleading.
+RockyHD
The build isn't technically 1 CPU setup.
+RockyHD but it's still 1 computer.
where are the other 6 linuses playing crysis?
They are there. Just virtualized
Best video in a while! Great work!
Btw, do you get to keep the system at LMG? Or are you going to return it after CES?
I would assume that they would get it back. But, I don't really know if they will or not.
there's no way he's keeping it. I'm sure that kingston takes it back.
+xSIMONSIGGEx as a general rules these machine get disassembled and part used in other build projects, I could think of a few different builds with that motherboard alone
+Thelolmobile11 I remember in a wanshow like was saying how amd was suppose to send in the gpus, but forgot and then didn't have the stock to,so Linus was talking about how he bought them instead. My guess is because of that, LMG probably will get to keep it, but who knows.
I love how you use Monstercat music in your videos! so "sweet"
I'm wondering how you are transporting this to Las Vegas. That's a video in its own right. Edit: This motherboard has TWO CPUs. You should change the title of this video.
+ddthom2008 The case isn't that big. One or two people can easily lift it and put it in a car.
+ddthom2008 I think he is referencing cpu as computer.
+ddthom2008 I tweeted him that, doesn;t really have the same ring tho, does it? xD
+ddthom2008 +Somethingafw He's not refering cpu as a computer 1 of te CPU's is used for unraid and the other for the gamers.
+ddthom2008 Alot of people misuse the term CPU to mean a computer without peripherals/monitors/accesories ie. the case and internal components.
I'm not much of a computer person anymore but hot damn that is beautiful!

+MrJason005 If their situation is anything like mine, all available income is already accounted for just to pay for rent, insurance, and survival. A huge portion of the workforce does NOT have income to spare. If I get hurt, I go hungry.
+MrJason005 mate where i live , i know people who have been unemployed for 10+ years ,also a minimum wage job(most retail jobs here) is equal to ~520 USD (per month) and pc hardware is way more expensive ( 600 USD pc costs around 850 USD

And in ten years this will be a budget pc
Renav Solanki it already is, in Linus's mind

+3DM Gaming But CPU doesn't stand for computer, its a Central Processing Unit, witch Linus has 2 of.
+soildmoose also if you would like to re read my comment "in this situation"
+3DM Gaming no.
Nice, will be interesting to repeat that based on windows server 2016 or 2019. In 2015 I was build system for 15 gamers on server 2012 and 2 NVIDIA Titans. It was about 10000$ system.
But Linus. There are 2 CPUs.
Oh yeah now that I realised it he kinda lied
linus pls
+Fire Gaming Linus meant cpu as in the tower instead of the actual processor
+Fire Gaming Thats immediately what i thought
+WonderWaffle um.... 2 cores for each person, if my math is correct.
Or am i missing something?
+Gladwin Gracias 2 times 14 core cpu's, so 4 cores per person
And the reason for the title is that the idea was to use 1 cpu, but that didn't work, so 2 cpu's were needed.
I really don't get why there is so much about this in the comments
A $30k car can take 4-5 of your friends to the other side of the country.
A $30k PC can take you and your 6 friends to the other side of the universe, and back, and to any dimension in between.
Great video Linus :)
Can you make it run a single copy of windows, and then run pong at 320x240 resolution, and see if it can maintain 60FPS or higher?
+Razor2048 i tried it, not 60fps, but playable 20-25 fps if you turn shadows off
+Razor2048 i know its a joke, but i'd like to know how much it could do, probably a trillion fps at pong xD
#1.000.000.000.000FPSmasterrace
(since a game like pong would use next to no gpu ram)
and here we are 7 years later in 2023 where you can have all that greatness for under £1500 and it still would be slower than the average AMD desktop PC.
Who would believe it in 2017.
