that head that penetrated the best in the cardboard, at 19:56, when you then keep digging back into the layers of cardboard, you can see most of it's way, it was going through a gap in the cardboard pieces.
I do see the gap so it may not have been as accurate as possible but that was not intentional. We will definitely work to make the next video even better! Thanks for the input
@@johnhennings8781 no worries, easy mistake.
I’d be more curious to see what ones fly truest more than any of these tests. All of these blades will kill a deer if put in the right place. I’d like to see what ones land in the right spot more accurately.
We will make sure we incorporate an accuracy test in our next one. Definitely most important.
@@hooked2hunt looking forward to it!!
Tune your bow. Shoot properly built arrows. They all will shoot true.
Ranch Fairy has the answers
The Toxic has always been rather controversial since its release around 10 years ago. You either love them or hate them. They have been tested by various magazines and RUclipsrs pretty much all with mixed reviews on results (except for the bleed out). As for the damage at the end where the blades started to open up...that is what they are designed to do. When making contact with something hard, i.e. bone they will flex a little to allow the blades to pass by and thus producing a larger cutting diameter. It had been shot through plywood twice after all lol. Bonus you can buy and replace just the damaged blades and save money on the need for whole new heads like some of the others. I've been using them for about 5 years and haven't had any trouble with pass through or blood trails.
Great information. Love hearing feedback from people who have years of experience with them.
I'm using them and can't wait to see
I have been shooting the toxic for the last few years and I love em they do a lot of damage and the blood trail is massive very fast bleed out quickly killed animals
I've seen the Muzzy Trocar BLOW through both shoulders of an elk at 30 yards! 67 lb draw, 370 gr. Arrow
Tocar all the way shot a small buck this year maximum damage, maximum bleed.
Trocar is hands the best arrow for pass through. Iv never not passed through a deer.
I bought the toxic blades years ago. Sadly I have not been hunting in years. You guys are encouraging me to try some public land this year
I hope you get the chance to get back into it. If you get out, good luck!!!
I shot toxics for years. Never had to track a deer. All complete pass-through even a 520 lb black bear. Accuracy is amazing as well
They are definitely impressive. I might be shooting them this year.
I liked the concept and for some they work well just like everything else. But for me. I couldn’t make them group if I paid them too lol.
I won't shoot anything but a toxic I have shot some big wild boar here in Louisiana and I have no problems with the toxic blowing through the shield on them hogs and the blood trail is crazy
I used the toxic in my crossbow this year on a deer at 25 yards with complete pass though both lungs took out a rib on exit wound side , she drop almost instantly. the size of the hole was ridiculous.
I've used countless mechanicals and fixed blades in 35 years of bow hunting.... and then I tried the Toxics out of a crossbow. You need big power to punch them through but I've never seen blood trails like those crazy things leave behind.
Gonna order some of those blood bath broadheads after this. Pretty impressive
Thanks for taking the time, guys!
My arrow setup is pretty wicked, I'm using the slash magnum arrows, with a true blue crossbreed, with a kudu point out front. The devastation is insane
That is one insane setup. Enough to make John jealous. Lol
@@hooked2hunt I know it might be a tad excessive lol, but it drops em. Love what you guys do by the way, you guys have a lot of good insight and interesting thoughts. I owe a lot of my success in hunting to this chanel!!
I love these test. That being said forward facing deploy mechanical broad heads can cartwheel upon impact at angles. It kills penetration. Choose shots as broadside as possible. Rear deploying mechanical don’t have that issue. I hunt steep terrain so my shots have to take this into account.
I hit a deer last yr with a rage , slightly quartering towards me . Shot him right behind the shoulder and it came out between his ass and his bag ( deer gouche) . I went back to fix blades
1
That toxic looks gnarly. I had to go find pictures of entrance and exit wound on deer. The wound cavity is like a slug gun. Great video
I never watch a 50+ min video on the tube. I watched this one. Good job. Very interesting results
Glad you liked it. Appreciate the feedback!!
There are lot of those I've shot over the years. GREAT test!!
A thought on the Toxic, the only tests it "failed" are the ones that what you're shooting through will compress and continue to create drag with the type of hole it punched, because the medium won't clear itself from the blades. Shooting it through living tissue, I don't believe that will happen.
Ballistic gel is great for taking measurements for comparing similar things, but it doesn't act anything like living tissue, except for the surface tension. It's a scientific medium for comparing apples to apples, not for predicting what happens inside a body. The shape of the hole the Toxic creates will make it preform completely different from anything not similar in shape. Living tissue is much softer and more pliable and won't clog up the holes in the blades like the gel and cardboard.
I've never used Toxic blades because they came out after I switched to mechanicals - because I got tired of having to resight, and sometimes retune my bow between shooting field points in the off season and whatever tip I'm using to hunt. My mechanicals were initially chosen by which ones I didn't have to do that.
Definitely good thoughts on the toxic. So true with mechanicals. Largest benefit is definitely staying true in flight and not having to broadhead tune.
Thanks everyone for the great test and review, you put a lot of time and effort into all that you did for slure.
I was very surprised on all the tested blades. The least likely to succede done the best overall. As a kid we used a lot of the m3 type 3 blade broadheads due to us kids always shooting them into the ground. They are very easy to re-sharpen and last forever. The Mickey Mouse Toxic really surprised me going through the playwood and coming out in almost perfect condition.
The look on his face when the otw out penetrated them all was priceless lol
I cant believe how fast an hour went by watching this. You guys are entertaining and informative. Thanks for the content guys
Thank you. Appreciate the feedback!!
I have been shooting toxics since they came out early 2000 I have fallowed the stream of meat noodles to a pile of meat many times fly like a field point minimum tuning I love those broadheads
You guys did an excellent job on this. Teaches you alot about each broadhead. Please do more broadheads, Grim reaper, Qad Exodus, Rage NC+P just to name a few. Great work.
Thank you so much! We plan on getting better every year
Appreciate the feedback. We will check out the broadheads. We will be putting out a survey with everyone's suggestions before we do the next test and we will do a people's choice test.
Annihilator broadhead too :)
I would be curious to see these tests with the Rage Extreme 4 blade.
Thanks for the testing. From what I saw on the cardboard test, none of the mec heads deployed in the cardboard, except the slash..
As for not deploying to cut the skin might leave less of a blood trail, as there is less of a hole for the blood to leak out of. Especially, with high shots.
Here is another test. Brandon McDonald used it.;
Take a tanned deer hide, a couple of screws, 5 gallon bucket with some kind of a tip stopper in the bottom & a bathroom scale......
Directions: 1. Put the tip stopping material in the bucket Towels maybe?) 2. Screw the deer hide loosely to the top of the 3- 5 gallon bucket. (real skin on an animal is not tight.). 3. Place the bucket on the scales.
4. TEST: Push the head through the skin. Measure the pound force needed to push the broadhead through the skin.5. Record results.
FYI. Magnus heads have a lifetime warranty. Here is an interesting addition to your next set of testing. Magnus Black Hornet (Either regular or serrated blades[Ser Razor]). Compact head with a 11/4 cutting dia. Described as a 'Flying Battle Axe.'
Excellent suggestions. We will try to include these in the 2023 test
This looks like soooo much fun!!!!!! Who doesn’t like shooting broad heads for damage!!!!!
Oh it was, and we will be doing it every year but we will be adding some new torture tests.
I bought my SIK on clearance and the only problems I have ever dealt with is operator's. Accurate, great entry and exit, including rattling ribs, holds its edge even after getting buried in bases of trees, starts a bloods on impact, great hole diameter, etc. Most of the time I have to track the deer, so bleedout is slow, but I mostly blame that on my aim and not steady hands. Thanks for the review on the toxic and NAP
34:48 that is the shotgun slug of broadheads, I like it
I hunted with toxics last year and shot a doe it wasn't the greatest shot but she bleed like he'll took me about 2 minutes to find her will definitely be using them again
Just to let ya know....that black dog pissed on your backpack. The time on the video was 44 minutes and 25 seconds sorry to see that buddy but it was funny I laughed my butt off it sucks your bad got pissed on but it was crazy that you caught it on video. Make sure you wash that bag. Lol! 😂
Just saw that. Lol can't believe I missed that when editing. I'll let John or Keith know they have a bag to wash. 😆
That cardboard test was awesome.
Glad to see the two fine technique worked out well. Lol
I like your torture test video. One of the biggest considerations for hunting should be flight accuracy at distances you actually hunt. Shoot a field point first to show the true flight of the arrow followed by your broad head. It would be something to add. Also recommend trying Slick Trick broad heads.
Appreciate the feedback. Flight Accuracy is definitely an important test. I will check out slick trick. Haven't heard of them.
I used Toxic for years, but upgraded to the Pharmakons. Great review guys.
Thanks for the feedback. Never heard of pharmakons. I will be looking them up.
How do the Pharmakons compare to the Toxics? Look very similar but different ferral and Tip.
The main difference is the length, and blade surface area. I think they are better built as well, but that is my opinion.
New hunter here, I love your content and the vibes yall have. Its not just informational through demonstration, but entertaining to watch yall have fun, looking forward to more content :)
Glad you love it. Appreciate the feedback!!
This is a good Jobs thanks for the help. I like fixed blade the best find ones that shoot good out of your bow and go hunt without worrying about them not expanding how ever the 2 inch cut of some expendables is rather tempting.
Really well done. I like the suggestion of an angled entry shot instead of just 90° broadside. And I'm curious about the bleed out test... Might tweak the last test and have a line on the jug that you shoot under. And time just till the water drops to that level. That way you are timing for a specific blood loss, not to where the arrow enters/exits. That was impressively well done. It made me reconsider what I'll buy and shoot with. 👍👍👍
Pp0ppppppppppppppppppppppppp0
Before I see the test, I am just gonna say Toxic are my jam, simply the best I have ever seen or used. They literally take a plug out of an animal.
You guys did a pretty good job!! I saw some other review/tests and I like the way you guys did it over all the others.
Thanks! Appreciate the feedback
Never had a problem with rothar snuffers on cedar arrows for recurve
Lmao at the dog passing on the backpack....
Definitely hilarious. I missed it somehow when editing but glad everyone is enjoying it.
Thanks for this! And you guys seem like fun and good friends. Keep up the good work!
You guys seem like you’re having a blast. Great video.
It was great time!! Can't wait to do it again. Might have to wait until off season though. It's time to be in the woods.
I'm diggin' that Toxic
A more precise bleed out test might be to go for a set total volume flow, say 1 gallon, caught below by weight. The top could have a larger supply of water from another reservoir to guarantee the same 1 gallon of flow. The variability is based on where the jug is hit, and the margin of difference is really hard to determine. Really great video! Thanks for doing that!
anyone else notice the dog peeing on the backpack at around the 44 minute mark?? very good test!!
Just came across this John and crew. Great job and keep them coming!
The Toxic has 4" of cutting surface. That might be why it didn't do so well on the ballistics gel and cardboard. More surface area, more drag.
I do plan on using the Toxic for hunting this year in addition to my Slash Arrows
@@johnhennings8781 good deal! My son(12 at the time) took a pig @ 16yds quartering away with a 500 spine, 265gr total weight (including the broadhead) arrow out of his 50# draw 24" draw length bow last August with a Toxic. He made a good shot, and despite the lack of penetration due to the other factors, she still only went about 50yds, with a blood trail a blind man could follow.
@@johnhennings8781 I would avoid that head like the plague.
@@aaronward3882 you shot Toxic before?
@@johnhennings8781 nope! Just ine look at the design and I know the odds are not in broadheads favor. The local shop near me quit selling them after people were loosing deer.
Just a few years ago the Magnus heads were great. Scary sharp and dead nuts right on with the weights....
That is not the case now. The edge is crap, the bevels are not even. I have blades with nicks in them. The screws that hold them together... Either they are loose as hell or they are so over torqued you are never getting it out!
Great video and tests . I love my rage .been using hypodermics for years with no loss of any animals . until last year on Halloween i shot a 12 point piebald buck here in Kentucky . shot low but good blood for 100 yards then drops . searched for 2 days and nothing . part my fault if not all my fault .
Sometimes the arrow drops out and the guts plug the hole.
Just subbed. I currently only have some cheapo broadheads from walmart. I'm gonna watch this video and hopefully learn a thing or two. Thanks guys!
Definitely some good options that performed well that aren't too pricey
@@hooked2hunt Just watched the whole video. The Toxics look like a blast, but the bloodbaths are gonna be hard to beat. Thanks again.
Nice video. I use swhackers in my crossbow.
Tie a bar of soap or moth balls under the hood. Father was a mechanic for 50 years it works
Most important thing is testing how well your broadheads fly compared to your practice arrows...Slick Tricks are the best I've tried
Accuracy is definitely the most important part. Appreciate the feedback.
Another big thing in your test that needs to be addressed is FOC of the arrows being shot. FOC is what helps with penetration heavy arrows alot of frontal impact.
Hi gentlemen, that was a great test. I’d like to have a chat if you where happy to do a review of our Crossbreed Broadhead.. think you will like them they are similar technology to the slash arrow and we use USA and Australian parts
We are definitely open to trying new equipment. You can find us on Facebook and contact us on messenger or email Hooked2Hunt@gmail.com.
@@hooked2hunt I’ll send an email soon. We are just putting together another round of designs. We may have a new broadhead for 2022 for you too
@@truebluebroadheads5302 That would be great! We looked up your broadheads and they are we would definitely love to test them!
Cool test. I shoot fixed blade broadheads have not failed me yet
2 of your broadheads (bargin brand and SIK) went through further die to the crack in the cardboard, they had less cardboad to cut, but they all did pretty good on penitration.
It's not just some of your tests that the toxic didn't have the penetration. I've seen a lot of deer shot w them that they didn't go through both sides
Your dog peed on your backpack at 44:26! 🤣
i have shot toxics in the past with amazing results you fallow a blood road with spagetti noodles along the way so i coined huntin with toxic broad heads swamp spagetti ..love them wish i could find them locally.
Swamp Spaghetti. I like it!!
I don’t see any swhackers in that line up.
I’ve tried many mechanicals and the swhackers haven’t let me down.
If they don’t hit bone and bend the blades at all I can usually harvest thre or four deer before retiring one.
The exit wounds are usually devastating and you want to try for a solid broadside shot so you don’t lay the entire side of the deer open and it’s running for miles with its guts hanging out.
For the squirrels that mess around before meeting their end, put cayenne pepper, chili powder, hot sauce etc where they are chewing and where they running around. It acts as a deterrent. Black pepper might work also. The smell repels them and if the get it on their mouth or on their nose/eyes it irritates them.
For fixed sik is my go to
Great job guys, lots of interesting broadhead. Did you guys put any of this data in a pdf chart format? Would be interesting to have to look at. This is a tough comparison to do, there is a lot of variables in total arrow weight with broad head weights etc.
We did put all the data into an excel. Check it out on our facebook page or group. facebook.com/Hooked2Hunt/ facebook.com/Hooked2Hunt/
My theory on the blood bath and the gel is the 3 hole cutting design and the stickiness of the gel the gel grabbed it more because there is more surface for the gel to get ahold of so it slowed it down faster which results in less ballistic gel penetration just a thought because ballistic gel is kinda sticky
Definitely a possibility. The toxic has a larger cutting surface which would be more noticeable if the blades were straight.
The toxic was the one I had on my mind I wrote blood bath my mistake the way the blades curl it basically like shooting 3 normal broad heads at 1 time because it's punching 3 holes in every other test where a regular straight blade broad head only makes 1 hole I had to look at the video again thanks for the comment back that toxic with that arrow your going to shoot will serve you good I think
I use toixc with my cross bow and it puts a quarter size hole clean though deer pass though in ribs
They are definitely a different breed of broadhead. All of us are thinking about making the switch.
It destroys my block
The Toxic doesn’t fly like a target tip. You definitely need to zero the scope on the crossbow because they shoot low and left.
@@boostimalaka1 I personally find that they don't hit a spot consistently. I'll have it zeroed in with one broadhead and grab a different one out of the pack and it shoots at a different spot. Some of them will shoot high and right one time and low and left tbw next. Very confusing. I use Excalibur boltcutters and are happy with those. Very consistent
44:25
Lol. The dog pisses on his backpack.
I wanna try those Savage shafts with a Rage Extreme 4 blade
Interesting, and a fun video to watch.
I'm buying those arrows
Nice review guys , but no Australian broadheads why ?
I only use blood bath and toxic brawed heads that’s the only 2 I use
Great content! Please consider wearing eyes next time 😎 for viewer experimental safety
Your pentitration on a gel block does not matter, the friction between the arrow and the gel will stop the arrow short. Some of your braodheads went through further than others due to the braodhead making a bigger wound channel, therefor less friction on the arrow. All of those shots if in the kill zone on a deer would pass completely through due to blood , fat and liquids greasing up the shaft. I personnally do not like 2 blade broadheads, they can cause wind deflection and a chance of missing a blood vessle. 3 and 4 blade types whether solid or mechanical do a better job all around. A good mechanical blade that folds up almost flush with the arrow is the best for in-flight stabability. Anyway all of your broad heads have great penitration, in the gel. Good job testing.
This is crazy was watch this video and when you guys said bear creek archery I was like no way I got my Pse frocity there a month ago
Russ is a great guy and does an excellent job! You went to the right place. 👍
My dad has been going to him for years since I was kid nice place
The toxic blades are supposed to separate inside of bend or brake
Just watched your 2021 review. Did you clean your bag after the black dog peed on your bag? About the 44:25 mark 😂 Great review!
It was a friend's drone bag. And he did not clean it. He had no idea. Lol
great video guys!!!
I've used the toxic on feral goats and it leaves a mess they work well massive bleed out.
I would like to see this done with the SEVR!
Thank for recommendation. We will add it to the list. Quite a few people requested this one.
Edit: First of all I want to say that I loved this video, this is just what I wanted to see about broadheads, but I still have to find a good grain bolt for my crossbow.
I'm a beginner looking to buy some economic but high quality crossbolts. I've been looking around online with no success. The grains of the bolts that came with my crossbow are 370 with field tip. I would like to be in the 400 range for deer. Thank you in advance to whoever helps.
Try posting this to our Hooked2Hunt Facebook group. I'm not as familiar with cross bows but someone on the group should have an answer for you. facebook.com/groups/326189748822652/?ref=share
@@hooked2hunt ppreciated, bro. Will do.
Cannot use a curved blade broad head or mechanicals in Colorado due to there stringed rules. Great reviews nonetheless fellas!
As far as the squirrel problem get you some hot hot hot sauce and put it in a pump spray bottle and spray down what they are chewing. Gaurunteee they won’t chew it anymore(yes I know I misspelled guarantee grammar police)
The toxics are crazy. Took a bad shot a few years back and gut shot a deer. Didnt hit the stomach luckily but it dropped him in 20 yeards
put rubber snakes on your tires at night. that'll keep away the squirrels
Grim Reapers should be in this. There one of the best broadhead in the market
Thanks for the recommendation. We will add it to our list.
Thanks for this, you guys are so funny haha
Fucken FANTASTIC review and thank you guys from Maine
With regards to the Toxic I've seen videos of that punching through a 55 gallon steel barrel with a crossbow at point blank range ( I'm a crossbow guy). Will definitely be getting those
Thank you. Appreciate the feedback!!
You and your husband have amazing chemistry in front of the camera and I would be willing to bet that chemistry carries over into the bedroom as well !
Hilarious 😂 Our wives definitely get jealous!!
I use the 22 caliber Ruger air rifle
That's what I use for my critters. Good suggestion.

How is two inch two blade more cutting more than 4 blade 1"
Try to Test SEVR heads in 1.5
i remember when i first started shooting then thought i could shoot comp boy that finger slap was the only reason i would miss high and r/l every third or fourth arrow i mean high r/l by1inch shrunk down buy learning back tension
Definitely. John transitioned to a thumb release recently. I have been working out the bad habit. When I started shooting close range I started creating bad habits because I didn't need to focus on the basics to hit my target. I have been spending the last couple months working out bad habits. Staying with the trigger release at the moment.
Never understood why people think 2" cut expandable does more damage than a 1" 4blade conventional and the 1" goes between ribs better.
The only problem I see is that with the plywood the test is flawed. Being that the scapula is behind at least 1.5 inches of skin and muscle that will cause blade deployment on the mechanical heads so your penitration will not be as much as you would have much higher drag going through the plywood
Definitely true. We had a deer cape we were going to use but we're worried about have enough daylight to get everything done. Thanks for feedback.
I have had issues with Toxics bending up after shooting into a target. They were unusable after that.
Appreciate the feedback. I can definitely see test firing them impacted them.
They are supposed to do that. Toxic sells replacement blades. As they go through a medium they spread out
Better hope that slash doesn't fail when it comes out of the bow or there goes your launcher
It's extremely important to have the right length slash arrows. The arrows are actually longer and the blades sit just in front of your hand.
@@hooked2hunt oh so what was the lenght of the arrow you were shooting in the video
Well boys 10 feet I think the testing should have been done at 20-40 yards then 50 yards. That would been more accurate testing Broadheads in Flight in motion way different then being 10 feet away from the target the average distance we take game at. that would have gave me more insight on each Broadhead,
Is there a link for that sling?
When does ballistic gel season start?
Oh, its open all year long! Lol
