    This has to be one of the most depressing stories ever. Those poor girls experienced so much suffering in their short lives,surrounded by so much neglect and wickedness. All of these cases, truly depress and hurt me to my core. Because I lived one of these god awful childhoods, it was terrible, physical, and mental abuse on a massive scale, drug abuse in the family, and alcoholism, getting beat around for nothing other than existing. Yet, I have 2 children of my own. THEY ARE MY ENTIRE WORLD. My life would fall apart without them, and I shower them with nothing but love and affection, and they know they can come to me for anything no matter how bad it might be, and rather than snap and rage, that I will calmly listen to them and give them the best possible advice I can give. Living my childhood made me solemnly swear my children would never experience an OUNCE of the trauma I did. I don't see how more of these people abused, dont feel the same way. I guess they were just broken by it. I was beaten but never broken, I always swore I'd do things differently, even as a young teen and I hung onto that my entire life thus far.

No nothing happened to the guard because the girl was incarcerated in the juvenile jail and scared of retaliation).

    Wow! It is a lot to take in, but you, Mike, present it in a palpable way. As a mother to an only child, my daughter, I've always told my daughter to come to me if anybody attempted to abuse her. Thankfully, when she was on a sleepover, the brother of the mom attempted to abuse my girl. She screamed and kicked out at him. She came home and told me. I believed her and called Police. It subsequently turned out that he had abused his nieces, who were there in their home that night. He has served a lengthy term in prison and is on the SA register for life. Preparing our children for rogues in society is good.

    This case absolutely rocked Oregon. I was in fifth grade in Corvallis at the time this happened and the procedures for children getting to school completely changed after this. In our school district it was required for a parent or guardian to be present at the bus stop until their child was safely on the bus. After school was finished, it was required to have at least one walking buddy if we were going to walk home; and it had to be someone that lived on the same street as you.
    It makes me sad to think I haven’t thought about this case in nearly 20 years. Thanks for breathing a little life into Ashley and Miranda. They would have gone on to do great things with their lives if this country took the mistreatment on kids seriously.

    This happened in my hometown. My best friend's sister was close with Ashley Miranda and Mallori (Ward's daughter). They would have sleepovers at Mallori's along with other girls from the dance team. It had to be incredibly traumatizing knowing that she had spend the night in the home of a murder, with his future victims, in the very place that they were murdered and their bodies hidden.
    The girls' bodies being found is one of my first memories. I remember when they were still missing and they seemed so grown up to me, old enough to run away on some sort of adventure together. I remember asking my mom if that could be what happened, and her looking so sad saying "I don't think so baby." Now as an adult it hits extra hard how truly young they were. These girls had an entire life ahead of them.

      my thoughts exactly - and I'm not a mother! the school should have let the mother (parents/caregivers..) know that her 12 year daughter never showed up at school. probably wouldn't have made a difference in THIS case - might in another - thought there were better systems in place, even in 2002

    • @rudra62
      @rudra62 2 года назад +13

      Schools always informed parents when their children were more than a bit late, during the 1960s and 1970s. They had systems in place to tell whether a child was there or not. Kids who skipped school were called out by their parents that afternoon/evening if they were around and gave a darn about them. Why they didn't do this in 2002 or now is.... bizarre.

This is the hardest true crime video to watch for me and you cover it so respectfully and I personally really appreciate that.
    Edit ....it took 4 session of watching to get through this with some tears in-between. My hubby couldn't watch this and I wouldn't even show him. I'm sure this is true anywhere that stuff like this happens but it really did Rock a whole community and generation because I was around the same age and I know what I got to do and how late I got to be out and who I got to be out with drastically changed after this horrible tragedy took place.

    It's still so shocking to hear of these monstrous people doing terrible, abusive things - LITERALLY smashing a concrete block over someone's head and choking another - and then only getting 3 years in prison. It's a disgrace that this happens so often. Escalation is escalation , how bad does it have to get before the justice system wakes up? If they're capable of attempting to kill someone for literally no reason, there's no telling what else they're capable of. Put them away and keep them there.

    My grandparents lived in Oregon City growing up and I remember driving by his house all the time. I was quite young when I started seeing stuff about Ashley and Miranda on the news and I followed the story, I still remember seeing them showing his house on TV as the place where they found these two poor girls’ bodies. My whole family was stunned and horrified. This was the first murder story I remember being in my hometown and old enough to understand what was happening. We continued to have to drive past that property until it was eventually torn down and it always felt so dark and eerie, felt knots in my stomach each time.

    As soon as you mentioned the name "Ward Weaver" and whole basket of memories came back that haven't been thought about in a while. I was in middle school during this time, just across the Columbia in Southern Washington, and I remember this story being EVERYWHERE. Every news channel was covering the girls and the Weaver family, posters all over to call if any information could be given, When the case was finally solved, and the accounts of what happened were reported, it was like all the oxygen was sucked from the air. Even being in a neighboring state, it shook a lot of people. It's a disgusting, and tragic thing Ward did. Some people deserve a good strip down and a$$ whoopin' upon entry to prison.

    I was sad at the end to find out that Francis Weaver ended up in prison for life for murder, I was so hopeful when he said “I’m doing the right thing, and from now on my family will be known for doing the right thing.” He seemed like he really wanted to break the cycle of his family and that’s such a hard thing to do, and it was a powerful thing he said, and did by turning in his POS dad.
    I absolutely believe that terrible upbringings produce people who hurt others. Not all the time of course and there are many incredibly strong people who overcome their circumstances, I have such admiration for those who do (my husband is one). I just think there is no more terrible thing a person can do as a parent than abuse and hurt their child. So much hurt and violence could be avoided if we as a society placed more importance on parenting, support of parents, and support of children.
    Children grow into adults who make the choices that shape our world.
