    I laugh at the cheesiness of the tai chi scene everytime, so you do not have to feel bad about doing so too!
    Buffy's "I didn't know you could do that" - when she first sees him doing it also always gets a guffaw out of me!

    Revelations is an interesting episode as we get the gang finding out Angel is still alive, Willow and Xander contemplating an affair. It of course suits Xander to have Angel dead because even though he has Cordelia, and now nearly Willow, he is still madly jealous of Angel and Buffy and would drop both of those in an instant if Buffy wanted him. Great foreshadowing here again with Buffy and Faith. One thing about this show in particular is we have another English Baddie in Gwendolyn Post, along with Ethan Rayne, Drusilla and Spike etc. Faith referring to her as Mary Poppins was very funny. Another really good episode in S3 of which the quality of show improves leaps and bounds in a very near flawless Season.

    A huge part of the tradgedy of this episode is the way they excluded Faith. If she'd been more in the fold, if Buffy had shared with her more, she wouldn't have been manipulated by Post OR Xander.
    But, oh man! A string of some of the best episodes of Buffy are up next!!!

    • @coldservings
      @coldservings 9 месяцев назад

      Meta reason Faith wasn't included more was that Eliza Dushku was a minor and they were limited in how much she could work. In-story reason is that, to a large extent, Faith excludes herself. She doesn't respond well to the overtures that are made toward her.
      Her behavior when Buffy was doing the "I am going out with someone" bit near the beginning of the episode is really atypical for Faith.
      Could the others, particularly Buffy, have made more effort to include her. Yes. But did they really have reason to expect she'd be more open to those overtures than she had been before? Not really.
      The thing I want to know is how Faith is paying for that room as "Spartan" as it is? Where's the money coming from for a teen girl to pay for even a cheap hotel room? And how is an underage girl, with no guardian in sight, renting a hotel room to begin with?

    • @laotasurfs1110
      @laotasurfs1110 5 месяцев назад

      @@coldservings Actually, right from the beginning, Faith was sharing her life and stories with Buffy and was interested in Buffy's life and experiences. She'd ask about this and that, not really knowing any better. Because Buffy had just gone through months of horror and trauma, (and was also not looking to "go halfsies" on her life) she shut Faith out. (We see her do the same to Scott Hope, thank goodness for small favors.)
      Also, Buffy's friends treated Faith like a way to ignore Buffy and get her back for not being around, then kinda dropped Faith, only seeing her when she was in the library or when they all went to kill something. Joyce had to MAKE Buffy invite Faith over with a guilt trip, that's how little Buffy actually liked socializing with her. The gang didn't like her. (except Giles, but he's an adult man and not the appropriate person to ask her over or visit)

  • @Buffy8Fan

    I dislike the fact that Xander used Faith to go after Angel. Intentionally or not, it defintely wasn't necesary for him to say, "Can I come?" because it set her after him with Xander knowing Angel wasn't Angelus. Xander only considers what he did wrong, and only tries to stop Faith, once Giles was attacked (but by then his encouragement has allowed Faith to think she is in the right). With Faith being cut out of the group conversations, it's easy to understand Faith's decision while Xander is just, like always, not trusting Buffy and never earns the line, "I trust you," that he says to Buffy at the end. He clearly doesn't. Willow and Buffy were right to be upset with Xander, and he should be apologizing to Faith instead of Willow. His actions led to Buffy and Faith's friendship being shaky and Faith distrusting the group as a whole.

      I've had debates with people trying to say it wasn't, but even if he didn't do it intentionally (I think he did do so intentionally) he doesn't earn the line of saying he trusts Buffy.

      His actions are...uncalled for, but more or less understandable. ...At least until "I guess he's not as cured as you thought."
      While he's at his most annoying throughout the episode, I can accept his behaviour up until that point as a wrongheaded but understandable reaction to seeing Angel back - remember, he wasn't in the library when Buffy admitted that Angel was cured before she stabbed him, so he honestly didn't know until the library confrontation. But by the time he confronts her alone in the library, he has doubts that Angel attacked Giles and wants to reign Faith in before she does something they'll all regret. And he still rubs it in her face like this is her fault.
      Fuck off, Xander.

      @@Talisguy "so he honestly didn't know" - well while being technically true he should at least have wondered why Buffy was intimate with him if that where the case considering that they were trying to kill each other in S2 when he was "not cured".

      @Buffy8Fan 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@Talisguy SPOILERS
      There's a reason he wasn't in the library when Buffy admitted Angel was cured before Angel was stabbed. She knew how he'd react. I won't believe Willow didn't tell him, though.
      Xander having doubts should only be fueled if he disbelieved and/or doubted when Giles was unconscious. His issues were about disliking Angel and he only realized his actions would have consequences after the fact of Giles being unconscious. And he still said (and I'm bastardizing the quote here), "[Faith's a big girl. She can make her own decisions" deflecting his own actions onto her.
      I dislike Xander the second he chose not to trust Buffy and ran to the group doing what he, in the _Enemies_ episode, says he enjoys doing. Which is saying, "I told you so." And he is never right when doing it, either.

  • @coldservings
    @coldservings 10 месяцев назад +6

    In addition to what you said about Xander, I'd like to point out his hypocrisy. The only reason he didn't participate in tje murder and cannibalism of Principal Flootie was that he was busy attempting felony SA against Buffy. But that's okay because it wasn't his fault (and he pretends not to remember to avoid dealing with any consequences).
    And whenever there's a dogpile on Buffy, you can count on him to be the most venomous participant.
    As for why Xander would be the one to discover Angel, of course he had to be. The writers' mission is always how they can make Buffy suffer most.
    On the subject of Angel vs. Angelus, the analogy I use is an identical twin. One twin does horrible things to someone and the other, even if completely innocent, can still evoke the same emotional reaction because the emotions don't generally connect very well to the intellect.

    • @dennicaid7682
      @dennicaid7682 9 месяцев назад

      The Angel/Angelus line is a lot more blurry than that, though... They get treated like separate people and named differently, but he is and will always be the same vampire - Angelus - at the core. The soul just gives him a conscience, the weight of guilt, and a *reason* not to do the terrible things he wants to do. Angel has to see himself as the same person in order to feel the guilt and keep his soul. We can assume he wouldn't have done the terrible things he did if his soul was present, but he himself knows he wanted to do them and enjoyed them. Not trusting Angel - especially when everyone is well aware of what he's capable of - isn't really as unfair as we'd like to think.
      It's a huge gray area, and i find it interesting to think about. :)

    • @coldservings
      @coldservings 9 месяцев назад

      @@dennicaid7682 The soul is his identity. "You die and a demon sets up shop in your old home. It walks and it talks and it remembers your life but it's not you." And "I've had a demon inside me for a couple hundred years, just spoiling for a good fight,"
      Yes, Angel remember's what Angelus did, just as the demon remembers what Liam (don't think using his pre-turning name counts as a spoiler although I don't recall if it's been given by this point) did in "first person" as though it had lived that life.
      The human soul, which didn't commit any of the atrocities suffers because it remembers as if it had done them. The demon which did does not. And if the human soul stops suffering for even an instant, it goes away and the demon, which doesn't suffer, takes control? I mean, after that moment of "perfect happiness" the human soul would _probably_ return to suffering, but the demon won't. Thus the suffering ends.
      The Gypsy curse was stupid from the beginning to the end. They just wanted _someone_ to suffer and didn't care if it was the same individual who actually did the crimes just so long as it looked like them (or in this case was driving the "meatsuit").
      But let's consider the idea of the soul being the conscience and not the identity. What you've got then, without the soul, is an individual who has no conscience. I.e. an individual with extreme Antisocial Personality Disorder, who doesn't fundamentally understand the difference between right and wrong. That's legally insane and, therefore, not responsible for his actions. But unlike real-world APD, Angelus can be cured. Indeed, Jenny Calendar referred to it as a "cure."
      Kill a person because they used to be insane? That's a morally defensible position? Oh, he might go insane again? Well, maybe, but the "Department of Pre-Crime" were the _villains_ of the movie.
      Yes, I do tend to run on and overthink these things. It's an autism thing.

  • @Gwenhwyfar7
    @Gwenhwyfar7 9 месяцев назад +2

    I would think Giles might have been a little bit more understanding considering he realizes that Angel was turned back to himself before she had to kill him. Yes, she should have told him, but I think them acting like Angel with a soul is the same guy as the murderer when they all know better. Why else did they do that spell in the first place?

      Disclaimer: I’ve no idea how many of the MCU thingies are legit and how many are coincidences. That said, the callback: @9:37, Xander tells Giles “you’re not the Watcher of me” (you can see it in the subtitles). In Ultron, shortly after the gang arrives at Barton’s, Tony goes into the barn to fix the tractor and meets Fury. Some banter, and then Tony says “you’re not the Director of me”.
