    UPDATE: APRIL 2023 - BIOS allows RAM Boost & manual settings to run at 5600 mhz now (32 GB configs)!

      @samwong1083 Год назад

      Not sure if it is just me, I bought 2x16GB 5600 mhz ram and installed them to my new legion tower i7 so that I can have 64GB memory in total instead the default 32GB coming with the machine. While it is working, I found ram speed is now only at 4000 mhz. I then opted to bios and changed the memory setting to "xmp profile 1", the machine wouldn't boot. It simply kept failing to boot then eventually you are taken to a screen saying it is not working and settings have been restored to default. Changing the memory configuration to default again, the system can start but ram is stuck at 4000 mhz. I also tried using manual profile to set frequency to 5600 mhz and changing the voltage to 1.3, same issue. Not sure if anyone has a solution to this issue.

      @@samwong1083 Hey Sam, I know some motherboards can only run the ram at a lower speed when all 4 ram slots are occupied. I've even heard of people running ram in slots 2 and 4 for max speed and putting in dummy RGB sticks in slots 1 and 3 to balance the look. Which RAM sticks are you using? I recently made a video where I replaced the default green Samsung sticks with Corsair's dominator platinum sticks (2x16GB a@ 5600) and it runs at 5600 mhz. I just bought another two sticks that I'm gonna install next week, so I think I'll likely run into the same lower RAM speed with all 4 slots occupied. Hopefully it boots though without issue. I'll let you know my experience once I have all 4 sticks in and the speed it runs at.

      It looks like as you go up in memory capacity, the speed will go down. It will go down even more if you populate all 4 slots, but sounds like you're only populating 2 slots right? I highly recommend you check out this video: ruclips.net/video/wzVZgTP2204/видео.html It's been eye opening for me and really highlights all the factors that can influence ram speed and stability.

    The XMP options seems to be available depending on the RAM that is used. I've switched out RAM and the XMP option went away even though the RAM was XMP. A BIOS update made the default RAM recognize XMP . Mine is running at 5600.

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  Год назад +2

      Hey spededpat, yep XMP profiles are embedded in the ram modules. Whenever the motherboard finds an XMP profile, it will display it in the motherboard options. The April BIOS update allowed the XMP option, which wasn't available at the time of this review. Btw, you can check this review where I upgraded the RAM: ruclips.net/video/cbVs2AhZNVg/видео.html (I actually since returned the ram in this video and upgraded to Corsair's 64 GB 6000 Mhz ram and it runs at 6000 Mhz easily.

      It isn't offered as an upgradeable option from Lenovo, but some people have swapped it out by themselves, so you can do it if you don't mind possibly have to rerun wiring, or just removing it and plugging in the same wiring ends to the new PSU in theory. The RAM issue is fixed : ) I'm now running 64 GB of Corsair Dominator Platinum RAM at 6000 Mhz. Hey @AG19901990, congrats! It's been an awesome computer so far. You can update the system from the pre-installed Lenovo Vantage software. To update the BIOS, you can go to support.lenovo.com/
      If you got the 32 GB version with 2 RAM sticks, you'll be able to run at 5600 Mhz speed with the newest BIOS update (running at 5600 mhz does void the warranty though). If you got the 64 GB version with 4 RAM sticks, you'll likely only get 4000 or 4400 Mhz speed, but that's still plenty fine for gaming. I have my computer set to performance mode. I don't use overclock because it's a really small improvement and it voids the warranty. I also made two other videos where I switched our the RAM for RGB RAM and added in another NVMe drive here: ruclips.net/video/Cix_Cy5d-4M/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/cbVs2AhZNVg/видео.html

      @elid5904 That's kinda hard to say since Lenovo released the BIOS update to attain the 5600 mhz speed they advertise on their site. I know enabling XMP voids it, but I can't remember if hitting 5600 mhz had any warning now, sorry. Most games I compared the 3080 and 4080 against had such high frame rates to begin that if FPS is over 100 to 120 FPS, the benefit may not be as apparent unless you have a really high refresh rate monitor. However, when FPS numbers are lower, then any increase can affect playability, so yea the 4090 will be a marked step up from the 3080. With 64 GB of ram, you probably won't ever near max utilization. So far their customer support has been great. Tech support could use some work because when I contacted them about the ram speed, they told me I could reset the computer to try and fix it, and anyone with decent tech support knowledge would know that is a waste of time. I got the replacement and shipped back the first PC, but then I benchmarked it later and noticed it performed worse than the first PC, so yes, if you send your unit back, you may get lucky and get a better chip, a similar chip, or perhaps even worse. I think if the games and software you want to run are running smoothly and without crashes or issues, that I wouldn't worry about it much, since you will quickly forget about the 3% gap once you start to use and enjoy the PC. I hope that helps.

      Hi Calcium, I 100% agree with you. I HATE Windows 11. I downloaded a program called Explorer patcher though, which allows me to set the taskbar and start menu how I like it, so it's back to a Windows 10 style look for me. You could take the same approach since Windows 10 will eventually stop receiving security updates and patches and you'll be forced to go to Windows 11 or the next iteration of Windows in 2025, when Windows 10 support ends.
      There have been two BIOS updates so far, and the BIOS update has fixed the RAM speed issue. After the updates, I was able to run the shipped RAM at 5600 Mhz. However, I have recently upgraded the RAM to Corsair's 6000 Mhz ram and it is running at 6000 Mhz too. You just have to have a 2 RAM stick setup. If you buy this PC with 4 ram sticks, you'll likely only get 4000 or 4400 Mhz with stock settings applied.

    FYI new Lenovo Legion i7 Gen 8 system with 64 GM RAM, 4090, and i9 came in. The RAM was running at 4000MHz! I updated the BIOS and the XMP option is not there as shown by reviewers who were able to update their systems to get the correct RAM speed.? There are memory options available after the BIOS update but any changes and the system will not start! Great I upgrade to 64 GB RAM and a larger NvME drive and have worse performance than others. The Lenovo forum has a few like me who just received the same system with the same results. For now, I would not guarantee any RAM for this system because it looks like there are different BIOS out there maybe because there are different motherboards? I am not sure but I am using the O5UKT1DA BIOS from April 20, 2023, for the Legion T7 34IRZ8 system. My options are to keep this, build my own and get the Corsair Vengence 8100. I only purchased the Lenovo because the BIOS reportedly corrected the RAM issue. Others are also reporting the NvME speeds are slow as well.

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  Год назад

      Hey Peterson Family, that is so strange. I have another viewer Cody, who was only getting 4000 mhz with 4 sticks of 64 GB and didn't see any XMP options either after the exact same BIOS update version as I updated to (O5UKT1DA). He created a custom profile in the memory settings and was able to boot stably running at 4400 mhz. I also tried with 4 sticks of corsair dominator ram, but could only get 4400 mhz with a custom profile. I didn't want to mess around with voltages, so I just ended up returning the 4 sticks of 64 and buying 2 sticks of 32GB each to get 64GB, and they are running at 6000 mhz. He said when he contacted Lenovo support, they told him it may be due to a different motherboard, but if that's the case, why would the BIOS revision be exactly the same name. Lenovo was so lazy, they couldn't even add a Type C port to the refreshed case, so I highly doubt they are running two different mobos for 4090 anx 64 GB systems since I can run 64 GB at 6000 mhz on my i9 and 4080 variant. My NVMe speeds seem fine though. I added a Kingston KC3000 and got pretty close to the rated speeds: ruclips.net/video/Cix_Cy5d-4M/видео.html

Lenovo did reach out and would like a video of my findings? Well at least I can set the Neo G9 to 240 HHz. Maybe I can work out a discount with Lenovo and keep the system. The price was good and I opted for a four year on-site warranty. It's been solid and reliable so far. I normally would never recommended Alienware because of their proprietary designs. I saw the R16 and it looks decent from the outside for airflow, but I'd check reviews about it on RUclips before you decide. I used to only be an Alienware user, but now I'd never go back to their desktops. I'd only consider their laptops now, and even then, I'd probably go with Lenovo Legion laptops.

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  11 месяцев назад +1

      I think it'll depend on the type of games you plan on playing or if you'll be doing stuff like heavy rendering. A lot of people have gotten the 4080 and can play pretty much most games on max settings, but if you don't plan on buying another computer for a while or upgrading the GPU then getting the 4090 is good to future-proof yourself a bit and to avoid wondering "what if". When I bought mine, only the 4080 version was available, so even though the 4090 models are out, I don't feel like the 4080 is letting me down at all for what I use it for. I've only contacted Lenovo support when I had the previous 7th generation model which has a slightly dented side panel. I contacted them to ship me a replacement side panel, and they just shipped me a brand new replacement computer and I sent the old one back even though the only issue was a small dent, so my experience has been great with them so far. However, I've also seen other viewers mention had interactions, so it isn't a guarantee like with most companies. @@SwissOliver

Then see what other people say their i7's idle temperatures are. If you notice that your temperatures are more than a few degrees higher at idle, you will already know that when gaming or doing other CPU intensive tasks, that it will run hot.

      @@xJay2002 This is probably the best pre-built you can buy. Since I made this review, they released a couple of BIOS updates, so now I'm running Corsair Dominator Platinum ram at 6000 mhz (32GB x 2 Sticks) with XMP enabled. I do 4K editing on this and render out 10 to 20 minutes 4K videos, zero issues with heat, no strange shutdowns or crashes either. I think the cooling is great as is, lots of airflow and fans. I only swapped out the RAM to have more RGB. For sure the motherboard is not as fully featured if you built a custom PC and chose a board with higher-end features, but for most casual gamers and editors, this is perfectly fine. You can just buy it and be good to go. The only concern is the power supply could get outdated in a couple of years if you ever decided to put in a 50 or 60 series GPU later down the line. Also, the remaining space is alright so tight to fit any GPU that is a few centimeters wider than the current card it ships with. If you built custom, you could buy a larger case and put in a 1000W to 1600W PSU to be future proofed for power requirements and increasing GPU sizes. I'm still happy I went with this option though.

The CPU is an i7-13700KF and the air cooler Lenovo supplies isn't sufficient to cool this CPU. Would you have any idea how easy it would be to replace the included air cooler? From the images in your video it doesn't appear there is easy access to the back of the MOBO where the CPU is located. I assume I would need access to this in order to install the proper backplate for whatever cooling solution I decide to go with. Lots of people who bought the 64 GB version can't get it past 4400 mhz. So it seems 2 sticks is best for high ram speed.

      @@DemCrumblies its a known issue with ddr5 platforms, 4 stick is considered like an OC for the memory controller (not enough PCI-E lanes to hold 4 sticks with high speed).

      @@ydvoiris Yep. I've seen some people say they've overcome the issue with manually tweaking timings, voltages, etc. The highest one of my viewers got was 5000 Mhz with 4 sticks, but yea, stability will have to be monitored long term. Hi.
    In Canada, I cannot find the liquid cooling configuration for the 4080 build. The 4080 build only has air cooling. The link you have there says "available soon"., which I'm assuming is just a placeholder and means they stopped making it. Why would they offer a model with an unclocked high end CPU (i13900fk) with air cooling in the first place? Do you know if the plan for Canada is to only offer liquid cooling for the 4090 builds?

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  Год назад +1

      Hey Jaydean, yea shortly after I made this video the configuration I got went out of stock and they introduced the lower spec'd models and two higher spec'd 4090 models. I'm thinking they will replenish that configuration later, but I'd have to jump on their support chat to see if they even have a timeline. Sometimes they don't have that information. I see on the details for the 17-13700KF models that they do air cooling, but the 13900KF are liquid cooling if you scroll down to the bottom of the detail page or expand the details for it "See More".
