  • We're starting our journey through fake cable seas with Odin Gold XLR cables.
    It was praised on AudioAsylum, is it worth buying?
    (it DOES look pretty, doesnt it? I could actually wear it on my neck)

    I’m one of those key guys talking about these as well as the Xangsane ( my favorite ) over on Audio Asylum and replaced the former with everything made by Xangsane, which gets my highest recommendation, as well as there offshoot brand Grey Knight.

      Is the thread in Cables Asylum ? Trying to see if any of the Xangsane XLR’s are worth testing.

    I tried the rca version and this cables were not treble extended but really harsh sounding top and mids (more than any pure silver interconnect i own) making your ear bleed with crappy quality connectors Examined with a magnifying glass these are rough like sand. I've chosen the most praised seller with the most pairs sold and best reviews. I hope these XLR are different. Thanks for the review

      XLRs are ok, but as all they require burning in. In my case it was like 150h before I got to reviewing them. They've played for two weeks or something like that with amp and no speakers connected for silence

      @@tofffsymagic1099 so these were different then XLR version, which is interesting because wires internally can be connected as 2 or 3 internally same way

    Thanks for doing this series. I recently switched to XLR from Dac to solid state integrated , having a dozen good RCA I/C due to decades of playing primarily single ended tube. So I got a Gotham 4/1 XLR and compared it with this knockoff ODIN gold. First observation is that it takes lots of burn in. But after 2-300hours, I observed the same dryness in the midrange and extended (sub)bass rather than mid-bass hump so you are spot on there.🎉
    Are there any other interesting XLR’s at the same site worth investigating? Preferably with a more organic midrange character. Thanks

      Thanks for great input!
      I would also recommend AQ "WEL"s for less dryness and I suppose rest of the fake AQ lineup like Thunderbird that I have lined up for a detailed review (RCA version this time).

    I replaced my klotz greyhound with these odins thinking that budget cables with budget gear should not make that much of a difference so might as well get the nice looking jewellry cables. But with these in my system even after burning in for some time i could not enjoy my music. Another thing i noticed is the male connector is non-locking and the gold finish comes off easily.

      Mine look ok, I guess there may be different fakes. What about the sound, what stopped you from enjoying music?

    I have this and it replaced a Mogami 2549 interconnect, and the difference was night and day, like fully opening a tap that was just half open, to use a water analogy. Would not like to recommend a fake, but how many people could buy the original.

    • @k4syx
      @k4syx  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yes I have 2549 too and it's good for the money (as long as you DIY) but even the cheapest Audioquest beats it with audio quality. And this fake has great quality to value ratio!

      @user-ij5lc9ze1g IMHO dragon, as fake WEL is also better (to my ears). But it's also WAY more expensive! This one has great value to price ratio.

    Please stop to buy and review fake cables... just buy the cheaper lines of real audio cable manufacturers. What do You expect from a china fake? There are a lot of original models that under 200 euros sound good (Audioquest, Wireworld, Straight Wire, Kimber, etc).

    • @k4syx
      @k4syx  3 месяца назад

      Well I have also lots of originals from QED, Wireworld, AudioQuest, Nordost and few others.
      The idea is to compare fakes to originals. All in all, in the end they all are just wires, copper in different geometry covered with different types of shielding and insulation.

    • @carmeloclaudiochianura5836
      @carmeloclaudiochianura5836 3 месяца назад

      @@k4syx Sorry, but no. You know very well that in audio cables from real brands we pay for REAL oxygen free copper or OCC copper, real teflon insulator, complex geometries and high quality connectors. For ex. I used some fake Oyaide connectors...no comment, from the plating to the sound. There are cables not made for audio (like Heliax coaxial cables for example) that sound good, but they are not fake cables, but wireless coaxial cables that also sound good. But that's another story.

    • @k4syx
      @k4syx  3 месяца назад +1

      @@carmeloclaudiochianura5836 the question still stands: how much is in the material and how much comes from build. Isolation like teflon od cheap and I don't believe somebody would fake Teflon. OCC vs regular copper or solid silver vs silver plated copper is another story - these make a difference in cost.
      There's also a question - for "real" cables - how much of the price comes from pure BOM and how much is margin, but that's sweet cable manufacturers secret :')
