  • I'm installing a pair of wooden posts, to break out the old concrete i bought a Titan TTB280DRH 15.5KG Hex Shank Breaker,
    I already have a Dewalt SDS Plus drill but needed something bigger,
    This is a very heavy big machine & easily broke through the concrete but is maybe a bit big for this job, I'm glad i bought it though, it took the strain off the little Dewalt & did what i wanted it to do,
    I'll be making a gate to go on these posts in a week or two when the concrete has dried & I've finished other work inside the house.
    I don't make these videos to make money, I make them to share the tips I've learnt over 36yrs as a joiner, but filming, editing, exporting, reviewing & uploading does take a lot of time so if you have gained anything from any of videos & would like to help me out & donate pls click the PayPal link below, every little helps & will be much appreciated. Thankyou.

      Yep heavy is the word, 1 litre of water is the same as 1kg, this machine weighs 15.5kg, that's just short of 7 x 4pint (2.27litre) plastic milk bottles 😆
      Thanks I'll post s it happens,

    wow... look how nice and shiny and new it is.... wont stay like that for long. Use one of these day to day as a fencer and they are well worth the money. Take quite a beating too

    Other videos on gate posts installation I have seen suggest to concrete bit higher than ground level and slope away from post to drain rainwater away from post to allay early rot . Again using post Crete cuts curing time though you have to set post accurately.

    Great channel! Will you be filming the door hanging and kitchen job? Many thanks

    • @Gidjoiner
      @Gidjoiner  6 лет назад

      To be honest i don't know, I think I'll film anything that i think is educational,
      The doors are stripped reclaimed doors going into old frames so conventional fitting might not work, I'll just have plane & cut to make them fit,
      The kitchen is a bunch of boxes with a worktop on, the house owner has done some plumbing but it's 'not right' so i'm redoing that & I've agreed to repair the plastering after the electricians have chopped their wires in, but I'll film what i can & give as much info as poss, we'll see what the vids come out like, they might be a bit of a mash-up of days work events.
      Thanks, 😉

    does the Kg make it more powerfull than a smaller Kg . Looking at digging 3 2ft holes in driveway to install fence posts , what would i best be getting. Thanks

    • @Gidjoiner
      @Gidjoiner  4 года назад

      Yes & no, this one is so heavy it doesn't need to be held/forced onto the surface to make it break concrete but it's a bit heavy to be manoeuvrable for getting into awkward areas, a smaller one would be more manageable but would need more effort 💪 to hold it in place to break, I don't remember what i paid for this, it wasn't a lot & i didn't want to be under powered, it does it's job if you can pick it up 🥵 I'm getting old tho 😅 The only prob with many of these is the distance it can reach down into the hole , Are you going to be using it a lot in the future, would hiring one be better,? you could upgrade to a bigger one if needed,

    Great video! How do I know what mix to make up concrete to? I recently concreted in a big steel tank in the ground to use as a waste tannk and I did 4 to 1. I'm worried now that I've made it too strong. Or worse!!?

    • @Gidjoiner
      @Gidjoiner  2 года назад +1

      😁👍 It's hard to make it too strong, more cement you put in the harder it gets but it becomes more brittle, & can be prone to cracking because there's not enough stones/pebbles in the mix, unless you did a 1-1 mix i wouldn't worry 👍 I do a 6-1-ish mix, i know 1 bag of cement to 6 bags of ballast, so 1 third of a bag of cement does two bags of ballast but i prefer to put a little too much cement in rather than not enough, too little cement & the concrete will be sandy & crumble,

      @@Gidjoiner thanks for putting my mind at rest and your really quick reply. Do you still have the breaker? If so, would you recommend it? I've got some jobs lined up and was going to hire but I like to build my tool collection. All the best 😎

    • @Gidjoiner
      @Gidjoiner  2 года назад +1

      @@dugbert9 No prob. Yeah i'd recommend it, weighs a tonne but takes a lot of the hard work away, the weight means all you have to do is direct it, This one is Titan, don't think you can get them anymore but it look just like all the other similar brands that roll out from China, That's what i like to do, rather than the hassle of hiring n paying more in the long run if you use it enough, you've always got one to just pull out n use 👍 I'll be back with more vids soon, just doing bits of work not worth filming & struggling a bit with the price of materials for jobs,

      Sorry i had it done before i knew it,
      There were moments when i was a starfish trying to keep both post vertical, hold vbits of wood for bracing & trying to attach clamps,
      I don't think i would have been able to describe what i was doing as it was happening & i don't think the camera angle would have been helpfull.
      Need a camera man 😉

    Great job, but why not just bolt posts to the wall? Not knocking just genuinely curious!

    • @Gidjoiner
      @Gidjoiner  5 лет назад

      Thanks pongo, This wall isn't in good shape but even if it was for me to hang the gate/posts from the wall it would have to be full height same as the posts so i could get a fixing up near the top of the post, I like to keep it independent, These posts are a little undersized for my comfort, they might bend just a little making the gate sag a little, i then plan to put a 45º metal tie back from the top of the post along the top of the wall on the hanging side.

      Good point. Only a matter of time before a customer asks me to do a job like this so thanks for the info. Always hate digging into the ground in case I hit a sewer pipe or something !

    • @Gidjoiner
      @Gidjoiner  5 лет назад +3

      😂 The pipes & wires should be below frost line, there's rules about laying them, some written some not, because they're deep the scariest bit is when you've dug nearly deep enough but still want to go a little further n you hit something hard, is it a rock or is it a pipe 😂🙈

    Running without grease on the bits, shame shame. Also you shouldn't push down on the machine, just let the machine do the work.
