If your groups are stringing lengthen the tuner, if they are round like #25 shorten the tuner 3 to 5 clicks (.003 to .005) and see what happens. Flyers can go into the group as well as out of the group so repeating a small group may not always happen. Try either side of 225. #250 looks like it had a big flyer. Lot to lot variations are the norm with 22 rim fire ammunition. I had 5 bricks of very accurate and consistent Eley Match 1054. Out of the the 5 bricks I had 5 boxes that shot 1800 - 1950 instead of the 2250 - 2350 on an ARA target shot in an underground range. When the shot went into the 50's they barley missed the 100. Clean the tuner with a 20 gauge shotgun brush and some awesome cleaner. Good luck and have fun. JIM

    Looks like it works!

There were a couple of nice settings to be sure. I still do not use a tuner however.
Plan on another trial or two this summer.

So I've played with a tuner and got great results, but the best settings I found one day do not work a week later. Try your best settings couple days from now and see if they repeat.

Once this is set will it work with any ammo. Or do you need to retune with different ammo

First my disclaimer: I do not use a tuner. I just place one every now and then for interest.
I do shoot with people who use tuners faithfully, and this is what they tell me:
Must be 'tuned' for each lot of ammunition. Even if same brand, must be re-tuned if new lt.

My CZ 457 MTR 20" with the right ammo shoots one hole .30" at 50 mtr, when in a rifle vice.

Something to keep in mind when doing this as it can be time consuming. Using a rifle rest eliminates human variables but most of us have to test like you've shown at the range. Beware of shooter fatigue giving you false results. Find the node that looks promising but test it over more than 1 range outing to see if it truly repeats. Shooting 25-30 3 shot grps despite our best efforts will likely have a flyer or so and that may make something appear worse or better than it actually is. If you have the time and ammo repeat the node test and see if the results repeat to verify. If you get different results well then you know the best node picked may not be correct. Sounds complicated but human error is always the biggest variable in these matters. I use Ezell PDT tuners on my RimX builds. They do work but take time in tuning correctly.

Good consideration all! Thanks for taking the time to write this!
I looked up the Ezell PDT Tuner. Do you think it offers an advantage over EC Tuner V2 or Harrell Rimfire Tuner?
I am going to try to read through the Ezell referenced thesis paper , 'PARTICLE IMPACT DAMPING IN THE HORIZONTAL PLANE'. If I can muddle through that paper, then I am going to watch a rerun of 'Wheel-Of-Fortune'. 😵‍💫

@@22rimfireultra67 Personally like everything else, every tuner, action, barrel, etc has it's pro's/con's. The all work on similar principles so it's just a personal choice Anyone saying tuner A is far better than B is likely talking out of the same hole yesterday's lunch came out of. There's no testing or evidence to show one is superior to all others. I spoke with the designer of the PDT and he knows the science far better than 99% of the people talking about them. All I can say is it work on my rifles. I have not tested EC's or Harrells to give a counter argument. Having watched and listened to everything about the other brands... my next tuner will be ...another PDT.

Interesting, never seen someone use a tuner

I've been watching others (who do very well) on scored targets use tuners for some time. I am just starting with this myself. Conceptually, with the sinusoidal wave form (crests, troughs and nodes), and the tuner altering the resonance frequency to place a node at the bullet exit point of the muzzle (if all goes as hoped for) , it will make for a fun project. I 'assume' with the difference in the vertical strings of the sequential shot groups, this is displaying the wave harmonics (?). Anyhow........🧐
