I was just explaining to my husband how double side tape saved my life yesterday while I was stitching a repair on my shoe. How funny that I came across this video today 💖 I’m new to your channel and so far I’m enjoying all the info you are providing. Thank you!
You demonstrated using leather tape on boxed corners in a previous video and it was a revelation for me! I am still very much a dabbler but just that tip helped the last couple bags I've made turn out so much nicer.
I love this video. Im learning to make wallets and I'm having problems with the tape sticking to the needle (industrial sewing machine)... What can I do?
I just started exploring bag making and I find your videos EXTREMELY helpful. Tape is an absolute must. ❤️ Right now, sewing book bags are kicking my butt 😖 (super tough, probably not for beginners) but I am determined. Recently made a kickbutt tote! Love the content and your delivery! Keep up the great work! 🏆 Happy New Year! 🥂
Thank you! I try so hard to just do short, concise, and very specific videos. My attention span for super long videos isn't there, so I figured others may be the same.
Hi!! Glad to see you back! Question for you! I have metal bag tags that at 1x1 but only have one set of prongs so there is the possibility that the edge can get caught. I think yours are similar shape. Do you run into this problem too? Do you have any suggestions to make it more secure? Thank you!!
Yes! Put a little bit of stabilizer like Peltex behind the prongs on the wrong side of the fabric and use fabric glue (like Fabrictak) on the under side of the metal for the right side of the fabric.
Thank you for the video. I am wondering if there are Titanium coated needles for industrial machines. I tried Scoring-Tape but it really gummed up my needle. I used titanium needles for my with my embroidery machine and the needles glides through spray adhesives with no gumming of the needles.
I'm not sure. I just buy bulk Schmetz industrial needles for my machine and haven't had any issues with gumming up. I use size 21 needles though. Maybe that's the difference? The needle size could help abate the gumming up?
My question to you is: What do you use if your sew over the tape in which we all try to do and you cannot keep your thread from gumming up nor keep the needle from gumming up and the stitches are all knotted up or skipping due to this double sided tape glue. Is there something else we can use to hold things in place beside clips of course? I have tried this DST and it always messes up my needles, stitches, thread, bobbin as well. I am so frustrated. I have a Juki TL 2010Q and I feel this is going to mess this up royally if I keep trying use DST. Can you help?
Can you sew through the leather tape? I used dbl sided tape that I got on sewing site to hold a zipper tape in place. I then sewed a seam through it and it gummed up my needle. Have you experienced anything like that? Another question: What is the trick for getting the paper tape off the sticky tape?
I haven't had any issues with it, but I'm sewing with a size 21 needle on an industrial machine. HAH funny you ask about the paper - I had soooo many problems when I was streaming on Twitch today. I usually am ok flicking it with my thumbnail and it'll pop on one end, then I can peel.
Question, does this cause the thread on the machine to get stuck? I have issues with my thread whenever I use it or use too much. Let's say I use some for zipper and then the zipper pocket fabric. I have a singer simple machine.
Question- on the zipper that you used the DST - it wasn’t sandwiched around the zipper tape..... Would love to see the bag tutorial..... for the different ways of doing the zipper ends and when to use the different ways. Hope that makes sense
Oh! Yeah it'll make more sense once I release the free pattern with this style zipper. The end that was fully closed around is a fly-out, so that end of the zip won't be "trapped" in the side seam.
I honestly haven't had a problem with it. I have a bigger problem with Decovil than I do with the tape. I'm using size 21 needles on an industrial Juki though. That may be why?
@@fiercekittenz very helpful. Thank you. Now I have to find leather tape in New Zealand. I've used the washaway and it is pain, doesn't stick very well at all.
I used the 1/2" leather tape you recommended for bias tape. I was sewing through several layers, it wouldn't sew right. I went through two needles (gummed my needle) and didn't want to pick up the bobbin thread. It was several layers of water proof canvas and fabric, but the side I didn't use the tape on sewed fine. However when I used that same tape on fabric to secure the zipper it sewed ok. I checked my machine ( bobbin, top thread, tension and all fine) I struggled to sew a few stitches and either the top thread broke or the bobbin wouldn't pick up the thread like I said. Really was frustrating. I am sewing with a Juki TL 2010 Q. Any other suggestions of what might have happened? Was it just too many layers? Is that tape better suited for a industrial machine?
I was always taught to use ONLY the wash-away tape with your sewing machine. I use leather tape for crafts where sewing isn't required. The leather tape I have specifically says not to sew over.
It's likely the type of leather tape you're using. The ones I linked in the description have never caused that to happen for me, but I always sandwich it between layers as you describe. Everything may have just been a bit much for the 2010 Q.

Your tutorials are so brilliant! You show stuff others don't! Thank you ❤️

Great job short, sweet and to the point. Loved it!
I try so hard to just get to the point and not doddle to fill air time.
Awesome. Thank you for getting to the “meat and potatoes”. Very informative.
I love your delivery! Great info!
Ordered the tale you recommended. Thank you!
Lol, should read tape
Just found you yesterday and LOVE YOU!!
FWIW, I love you too. Thanks for the support :)
This is very helpful! Thanks for sharing.
I would like to see how you did your zipper ends. I have a domestic machine so I use the wash away tape because it doesn’t gum up my needle.
The bag that's on the table is part of a pattern I'm making and releasing for free soon! I'll have a video to go with it.

@@fiercekittenz thank you!!! I was thinking about fabritac but wasn’t sure!
@@xxcakeordeathxx the fabric glue does work, but it's gooey, gets everywhere, and will gum up needles WORSE.
Thanks from Atlanta Ga USA 👀 next time
Cool, thanks for sharing the info. 👌

How do you stop your needle getting gummed up by the adhesive?

Does the leather tape cause sticky residue on needle?
I have never had that happen to me.
@@fiercekittenz very helpful. Thank you. Now I have to find leather tape in New Zealand. I've used the washaway and it is pain, doesn't stick very well at all.
How do you keep the tape from gumming up the needle and thread?
I think this depends on the type of tape you use. I’ve used some from Amazon and Tandy Leather. Both have been fine!

@@fiercekittenz it did, because that's the one I purchased. Amazon did give me a refund.
Can you sew through leather tape without gumming up your needle
Yes you can. It does help to have a titanium needle, but you don't really need that.
Wash away tape sucks. I cannot ever get it apart.
Hidden connectors tutorial
I haven't done those yet myself! But Kelley has a GREAT tutorial here: ruclips.net/video/LaKiFZkMBHE/видео.html
