This would be perfect at 16 channels. Make a version with 16 channels and a hybrid of the nucleus so you have a transport with daw control. That would be perfect for the home studio setup. Great for tracking a whole band (drums, guitars, synths, etc.) and for controlling your daw. And at least 16 channels for analog summing. I think that would be perfect especially if you kept the pricing under $10k.
When Trees Will Rule The World Again no. Matrix doesn’t have a eq or compressor and it has 40 channels of summing. It’s made for a person who has a lot of outboard gear due to routing options - no patch bay needed.
@@Jay-tp4df Sure but it still ticks two of the boxes you've asked for. Transport/daw control and higher channel count (ok it's higher than you need but strictly speaking it delivers what you asked for). You don't get channel strips so no EQ and there is no stereo compressor but as I say you do get two out of three things you asked about. You're not getting 16 channels with daw control and channel strips though. That's going to push the price to 10k or more. So take your pick. But I mean if you want to have a hybrid workflow $1500 ain't gonna cut it. You may not realise this but a 16 channel console will set you back two or three grand in cabling alone. Then of course you need a top tier DA because without it hybrid workflow just doesn't make sense. A 16 channel SSL is simply not happening if for the infrastructure costs alone.
When Trees Will Rule The World Again I understand what you’re saying but I think it’s doable based off the current pricing of the nucleus and the SiX. All they would be doing is adding the channel strip to each channel for the nucleus. The six already comes with 2 channel strips of mic pre, eq, and compressor which makes up less than 50% of the product for $1500. And it would be more useful than the Matrix because of the eq, compressor, and bus compressor for recording. The matrix is designed for people with a lot of outboard gear.
@@Jay-tp4df Well fine but it's not going to happen for $1500 all in. The Nucleus is $5700 USD new. It's also manufactured in the UK. So what do you do use Nucleus as a basis and just add channel strips? 16 Eq's and 16 compressors and a buss compressor is going to run up the price. The two channel strips do indeed make up less than 50% of the product but you don't know how much of that $1500 they make up. It could be a $1000 right. How much is the cheapest outboard channel strip with EQ and Compression? More than a thousand I'm sure. But let's be very generous and say another 3k for rudimentary EQ and compression to make up the 16 channels (which I seriously doubt by the way) and now you're pushing 9 grand total. There is no way you're getting 16 channels of EQ and compression in a product worth 9 grand. I've owned a console for years now but when I was looking to buy there was nothing under 45k (that was circa 2015). Even the AWS doesn't have compression on each channel. Can it be done? It hasn't been done yet. Can they do it using the Six mentality and with all the features you mention? I don't know. It's doubtful. In my experience you don't get a lot of console for even 15k. Take the XL desk it's a good console but only 8 pres. No EQs and no channel compression. I'd love to see it too by the way but I don't know. It's doubtful that it can be brought to even a 10k price point. The kind of feature set you're talking about.
Nice video thx . My question. preamp section is it as good as out board ssl preamp? And as interface also . This way I will have great interface and preamp. If some that knows please if you could forward me with an answer. Thx .
Can you please give some details about fixed settings on G bus compressor regarding ratio/attack and release? What are those fixed values approx? Thank you
when summing should EXT 1 and EXT2 buttons be in on the MON SOURCE THANKS so they can get some comp from the G BUS ? the buttons just under the volume knobs not the buttons above the main fader there all ready pressed in , thanks
( 11:46 ) I'm guessing that somebody crossed through the video at the corner, and the editor tried to hide it, but failed to do a simple Position movement to the clip :P
This really is incredible for the price. Not so sure about tracking vocals though. Still needs something to fatten and bring it out front a bit. But if you can't afford a 1073 and an 1176, this will make good music. I would love to hear a comparison of a session done completely in the box
What a lovely sounding mixer, tho I think there is a design fault in the choice of the name, "put two into six" and similar comments in the video would make me think communication problems could easily happen in the studio. I will probably get one of these very soon, can anyone think of a good nickname for it. (funny or rude as possible)
This would be perfect for a very small home studio set up. I do feel adding the C800 was over the top though. Someone who buys this will not have that mic lying around. But this little mixer fills one more studio niche for SSL. Not for me. I already have a SSL X-desk and SSL X-Panda set up with my outboard gear. They should call this mixer the Bumblebee because with all its little tricks I thought it was going to transform into a Transformer. It sure has that SSL clean and pure sound ! Also, the SSL Fusion is on my shortlist. I feel their price points are very fair compared to other leaders in the music industry. Not cheap. But you get some of the best sound. Thanks, SSL.

What is the best possibility I have running the SSL SIX into my LA-2A and 1176 before my vocals for my vox chain? Is connecting analog hardware possible?
Can anyone guide me to how i can record the vocals from superanalog 1 and not the track that i have comming into stereo input 3-4? Can’t seem to record one without the other… I’ve got a SSL 2+ audio interface and Ableton… Cheers
Yeah got snarled with a Soundcraft 24 channel MTK....now blissfully free with the RME baby face fs...so cool to be itb and no knobs. I wasnt the most knobby as the others... Give me my softsynths and BX plugins and im good to go.
That would be more dependant on your microphone choice and singer. Everyone has a favourite Pre. I had ua LA 610 trust I loved to sing through, I Like the SSL as well. Get your staging levels right and all falls into place and it's all taste from there.
Was thinking of saving for the neve 5060, then they raised the price 2000 usd for now apparent reason. So now i'll save myself a fortune and get this ssl 6 channels of summing is enough.
Please excuse the noob question but I have only ever worked in the box. When he is talking about setting up the SIX for the vocal take is the reverb being printed or just monitored in the artist headphones.
@@AnthonyMartinsRock this confused me tho. why wouldn't he send channel 1 to the stereo headphones and stereo reverb instead of channel 2 (PT processed version)? because of autotune? Also did he mention that he was also using the inserts on CH2 to the DAW? Is he printing the processed vocal track?
I mean I already have SSL Mynx with EQ and Comp and I do mostly mixing not recording per se. Would that unit be useful for mixing purposes as well especially when you already have analog SSL eq and compressor (XR618 and XR425) and run tracks through them to you DAW? Thank you

That's the Matrix isn't it?
One box fit's all! very nice.......
Nice video thx .
My question. preamp section is it as good as out board ssl preamp? And as interface also .
This way I will have great interface and preamp. If some that knows please if you could forward me with an answer. Thx .
Are those actual SSL channel strips? Or just 'similar sounding' versions?
Actual channel strips. He mentions it in the video. However, they have preset attack, release, and ratio settings.
Great Vocals Bro
please make the "eight"
More channels please for Drum Recording :)
Can you please give some details about fixed settings on G bus compressor regarding ratio/attack and release? What are those fixed values approx? Thank you
Hi Lucas, the G Bus Comp on SiX has the same compression characteristic as a console compressor set to 30ms attack, 0.1ms release, and 4:1 ratio.
Really digging the track!
when summing should EXT 1 and EXT2 buttons be in on the MON SOURCE THANKS so they can get some comp from the G BUS ? the buttons just under the volume knobs not the buttons above the main fader there all ready pressed in , thanks
( 11:46 ) I'm guessing that somebody crossed through the video at the corner, and the editor tried to hide it, but failed to do a simple Position movement to the clip :P
are those monitors the one15s from amphion? thx for the video
This really is incredible for the price. Not so sure about tracking vocals though. Still needs something to fatten and bring it out front a bit. But if you can't afford a 1073 and an 1176, this will make good music. I would love to hear a comparison of a session done completely in the box
how would i connect this to my PC?
Chris Sunberg VIA two TRS? / XLR??
What a lovely sounding mixer, tho I think there is a design fault in the choice of the name, "put two into six" and similar comments in the video would make me think communication problems could easily happen in the studio. I will probably get one of these very soon, can anyone think of a good nickname for it. (funny or rude as possible)
This sounds AWESOME!!!! I wonder would my Allen & Heath MixWizard4 WZ4 sound like this???
no. this mixer is next level.
When you track the drums, are they going out the main buss as one track? Or is each mic getting tracked on its own?
Does it have direct out of each channel after EQ and Comp or you'll always be sending the signal to the converters through the Insert out?
I really want the six for record a tv show in pair with a mixpre sound recorder but Im worry for one thing. My country easily exceed 86°F reaching 96°F at summer. The operating temperature showed in B&H is between 34 to 86°F, so, Could I have problems with the Six?
expend to connect more units would be great, building a 18 channel ssl over time. not sure if that can work analog but they must know better hah..
What a great idea.
Does SSL2+ work in new Mac M1 chip ?
What is the best possibility I have running the SSL SIX into my LA-2A and 1176 before my vocals for my vox chain? Is connecting analog hardware possible?
yes. the six has balanced inserts on both mic channels.
Is it possible to use the Inserts for external effect processors in channel 3 and 4?
How are you monitoring all this? From the Six to monitors or through your audio interface?
Very nicely done video SSL!
Can anyone guide me to how i can record the vocals from superanalog 1 and not the track that i have comming into stereo input 3-4? Can’t seem to record one without the other… I’ve got a SSL 2+ audio interface and Ableton… Cheers
Is it BUS B?
Yes send out to bus B.
Make sure you have line out from them though
hi do you lose any audio quality if you record from the B-BUSS ? compared to the min buss outputs ,,thanks
Not at all it is just another option to send a signal out.
Yeah got snarled with a Soundcraft 24 channel MTK....now blissfully free with the RME baby face fs...so cool to be itb and no knobs. I wasnt the most knobby as the others... Give me my softsynths and BX plugins and im good to go.
Well I must say, I came here to learn .. really didn't expect to hear an actual good song.
Seems like a dope mixer!! When does it drop?
what do you think about SSL on vocal. some people said that the sound of pre mic is not good for vocals...
That would be more dependant on your microphone choice and singer. Everyone has a favourite Pre. I had ua LA 610 trust I loved to sing through, I Like the SSL as well. Get your staging levels right and all falls into place and it's all taste from there.
Nice example! But the bell curve on the eq high band is 5K not 3K... 3,5K is the shelf.
Can you use the SSL SSL2+ interface with the SSL SIX?
yes. you use the ssl2 for the converters, and the six for everything else.
What brand/model are those drums, sounds good
Was thinking of saving for the neve 5060, then they raised the price 2000 usd for now apparent reason. So now i'll save myself a fortune and get this ssl 6 channels of summing is enough.
Please excuse the noob question but I have only ever worked in the box. When he is talking about setting up the SIX for the vocal take is the reverb being printed or just monitored in the artist headphones.
he sent Chan 1 to his daw then back ok into 3 that he then mixed back
@@AnthonyMartinsRock this confused me tho. why wouldn't he send channel 1 to the stereo headphones and stereo reverb instead of channel 2 (PT processed version)? because of autotune? Also did he mention that he was also using the inserts on CH2 to the DAW? Is he printing the processed vocal track?
How useful that unit is while mixing?
I mean I already have SSL Mynx with EQ and Comp and I do mostly mixing not recording per se. Would that unit be useful for mixing purposes as well especially when you already have analog SSL eq and compressor (XR618 and XR425) and run tracks through them to you DAW? Thank you
Goldn looks badass.
So you’d still need an interface with more than two insert ins?
For instance, if I have an Apollo twin, I can only use two inserts
Can you use the SSL SSL2+ interface with the SSL SIX?
