Having mine for about a month now I'm in love with the deck. it runs most games really well and the ones it doesn't just need a few tweaks. the fan really doesn't bother me and if you prefer headphones you wont be able to hear it anyways. In the hand this feels amazing compared to many other handhelds even with different grips. i can definite recommend it to anyone and don't get me started on emulations if you're into it that its going to run pretty much anything.

The Steam Deck's amazing for those with the intermediate computer knowledge and patience needed to take full advantage of it. Really is like the Swiss Army Knife of gaming tech, with the potential to put over 50 years of video game history at your fingertips from the Atari 2600 to most current-gen games.
It's not a viable option for everyone, but I would personally highly-recommend anyone with at-least the 256GB model set up a Windows/SteamOS dual-boot setup to have every possible game accessible, including games that only work on Windows due to DRM, anticheat, and API dependencies, and emulators that only work on Windows like the Xbox 360 emulator Xenia.

It's not that difficult to adjust settings and all that, it's just extremely time consuming.. There's google for whatever you need, but it can take hours.. That's why i'm turning away from PC gaming, i can't deal with it anymore.. All those downloads, installments, adjusting, updates, reboots, tweak this, tweak that, search for 'how to'.. Then something isn't right and you have to adjust settings again and again.. I think PS5 is taking over, especially with high PC prices. Not only because PS5 has top-notch performance and graphics, but it's also simple and plug & play. Games are cheaper too, and so many Playstation exclusives that i missed out because of PC gaming.. And also i'm tired of accounts, i can't deal with having Steam, Uplay, Origin, Epic and all that.. I only want 1 account, simple subscription to have all games in one place, much cheaper as well..

I have received my 256G unit earlier this year and I am really happy.
Feels good in my hands, performance is great and even playing games on the go is fun.
I probably would have felt more excited though since I backed the original AyaNeo with its dock before the reservation for the Deck went live, the AyaNeo was expensive but I like its form factor a lot better and since my non VR games are usually not that demanding (outside of the original release of Cyberpunk 2077), I tend to jump between both devices for playing PC games when I don't feel like I want to sit at my desk.
Eventually what I have ended up with is mostly to fill the AyaNeo with games from GoG and maybe EPIC with few of my favourites on Steam and also putting ReDream and Yuzu as well as RetroArch for my GameBoy needs on it.
Steam starts in Big Picture mode which under Windows unfortunately still haven't been replaced with Deck UI and using it thus makes it barely any different from the Deck or the Switch.
The Deck itself blew me away recently because I picked up Horizon Zero Dawn and it runs flawlessly.
That game alone makes me come back for it a lot.

Which do you think is better?

    • @MegaManNeo
      @MegaManNeo Год назад

@@nstar1372 That depends on my usecase really.
I have the original AyaNeo, so when it comes to hardware power, clearly the SteamDeck is superp.
Also as far as weight goes, the Deck is better and since its SteamOS is fully optimized to run games as good as possible, the bloat and potential danger that comes with Windows security is no more.
On the other hand, I like the form factor of the AyaNeo much more as it is more in line with the Nintendo Switch and the docking station allows to use like just like that.
Having Windows is also handy to use it with GoG Galaxy (syncing game saves) and GamePass as I used it to play quite a lot of TMNT Shredder's Revenge and Psychonauts 2 in more recent times.
Die hard Linux users probably love the Deck too because it is meant to be tinkered with, personally, I'm too lazy for this tho so I don't even care about to setup Lutris and get most of my emulators working.
My AyaNeo already got me covered with this.
Plus, unlike the Deck the AyaNeo came with 512G by default in all models unless you wanted the 1TB upgrade.
I'd say it's even for now.

The reason with why the UI is stuttery as you said in the video is because the Steam menu actually uses the web interface version hence why it seems kinda slow considering how powerful it is. Not sure why they did that tbh I think it's so it has compatibility with the desktop version
Also the thing you said with Valve and games not being taken down Valve said they will keep their games on the store as long as they can unless they ever shut down. They also said they would figure out a way to remove the DRM from as many games as feasibly possible if that were ever to happen so people could still play their games. Obviously most of that depends on publishers so one can only hope

Home repairs and upgrades can be done inside of warranty as long as upgrades are reversed before returning the item and provided those changes didn't cause the fault. Not sure it would be wise to test the limits of what their warranty allows for since there's some wishy washy language in there, but it reads permissive enough to assume that official parts installed by a professional third party aren't likely to cause a problem, maybe a third party SSD might but if you put the old one back in then it's fine.

Got mine 2 days ago, absolutely love it. Playing games at mid to high settings at 45-60 FPS depending on the game is a joy on that little screen.
Love the case. Love the fan, it's not the whinny one thankfully and it's pretty quiet, emulation handling on the machine is beautiful.
There's two things I dislike. Battery life. It's crap but I accept it and wouldn't want a less powerful unit for a longer battery. Then there's the build, specifically how cheap the plastic feels. Being use to the feel of the plastics Xbox use for there controllers, this is noticeably cheaper. I plan on using skin soon though so maybe that won't be an issue much longer.
Love mine to bits. Getting epic and gog up and running was really easy. How well this plays the Witcher 3 which I have on gog, compared to what my switch could do is mad.
Compatibility wise it's been pretty good. Anything that has native controller support seems to function no problem.

'Battery life. It's crap but I accept it and wouldn't want a less powerful unit for a longer battery.'
But wouldn't you want a more powerful battery if the device specs remain the same? Don't see why would they have to make a less powerful device, only improve the battery.

    • @samhawkes6597
      @samhawkes6597 Год назад

@@twentytwo138 well yes I'd love the power of my 2k gaming pc in the form factor of the Steam deck with the battery life of 24 hours. But technology doesn't work like that.
More power equals more heat, size is the limit there as the small and more powerful you go the more difficult it is to cool before it becomes impossible or sounds like a jet engine.
More power also means more battery consumption. Again you're limited there for size and you cane only fit a certain size battery before you have to start making the thing bigger.
You have to make the right balance between power, form factor and battery life.
The switch opted to underclock it's tegra GPU for less heat (quieter system) and to help improve battery life. It's a great system but it's not very powerful.
I prefer the Steam deck balance. Basically give up a little battery life and gain more performance, and I wouldn't want an underclocked Steam deck just to improve its battery life. Get it.

Also, the Red Dead load times are not acceptable on any platform.

The reason why Red Dead Redemption 2 loads so poorly is due to the Rockstar Games Launcher. It's their fault lol they force that thing into all their games now.
There is also no difference in loading times with the slower pcie slot for the nvme ssd's. The ssd's are not slower, the pcie slot is. But there's no difference from all the data I've seen

A bit of a friendly tease. You seem to take a gander over and over again at your Steam Deck, almost excessively, during those 2 minutes. Like someone looking back at their sportscar while walking away, or at an attractive woman walking down the street. Except doing it 12 or so times. Like I said it's minor, just making a joke. Appreciate your review.

I guess I'm out of the loop... I'll have to look up what happened. I've just been watching like I always have, but I couldn't actually find where he talks about capturing from the Steam Deck again when I went back to look for it. I know I heard him talk about it somewhere and was worried I was subconsciously plagiarizing him.

Just got my deck last week, and… I don’t get it. I have an oled switch, and all the latest hardware, including a 12900ks and a 3090 kingpin with liquid metal on an Optimus block. Oled switch obv had a MUCH better screen and legit frame pacing. I mean my deck can’t even run rocket league with smooth frame pacing. And sidescrollers have so much persistence blur from the meh screen, so oled switch wins yet again. And rimworld is “verified” HAHAHAHAHAH one must be masochistic to attempt a play through on the deck. And this the $650 deck. Don’t get it. It’s neat, it’s a novelty. But if I want to actually play games switch is #1
