  • @EmperorOfTigers
    @EmperorOfTigers 3 года назад +2

    That cartridge slot is a huge deal. The chance of losing saves due to it is absolutely not acceptable. Comes to something when a cheap Hyperkin clone does a better job in that particular way.
    As an NES machine it just wouldn't be worth the money anyway though. The RetroUSB AVS is a really nice system that is a great price and is still getting updates. The cartridge slot is really good on it as well. For NES graphics 720p Vs 1080p will make little diffence and most of the settings missing don't matter in the slightest.
    I'm pleased a didn't buy the Noir.
    I would have said it's worth it for being jailbroken but the Mister is a thing.

    • @nyastclair8174
      @nyastclair8174 3 года назад

      The cart slot on the AVS is a death grip though. The floppy slot Ron speaks of is because there's some unlicensed and modern carts that won't fit otherwise. If the slot was more snug then people would complain about that as well. I have the V1 Nt mini, Noir and an AVS, it's really not an issue at all for me. 1080p looks significantly better on a 1080p TV than 720p. If you have a 4k tv and a good scaling solution then the 720p may look comparable at that point. But on a 1080p there's no comparison.

    • @EmperorOfTigers
      @EmperorOfTigers 3 года назад

      @@nyastclair8174 My AVS doesn't have a death grip at all. It's just about perfect. It's a secure fit but nothing mad. Having the cart moving like Ron has pointed out is a huge deal and the slot should be designed for original carts like cheap unlicensed carts.
      I'm sure 1080p is an improvement over 720p but it's not by very much especially with a good TV that upscales 720p well.

    I have the AVS I'm perfectly happy with it, only thing I wish it could do was be jailbroken like the Analogue systems so I wouldn't need to buy a flashcart. But overall I think it's an amazing system. It also looks like an NES to me, even if it's slightly different. So while some may think it looks a little ugly, I like the look.
    As for this? I never dug the design of it, it just doesn't look like a game console meant for the NES. But I'm sure it's even more amazing than the AVS...$300 more? Not a chance. I could get two AVS's and share the fun with someone else! lol I do wish they'd come out with a plastic version that's around the same price point as their other systems though. I might be more willing to try it out. But as is, this just isn't worth that ridiculous price tag.

    I have the original NT mini. I can confirm the floppy nes slot and it you slightly touch the cartridge while it’s on the game will crash. I ordered the noir solely because of the “perfected nes slot”. Disappointed to see it’s still floppy, but if the pins remain in contact and the game doesn’t crash due to the slightest movement I guess that’s an improvement.

    • @whitezombie0002
      @whitezombie0002 3 года назад

      Sorry to tell you the Noir has the exact same issue. Barley touch it and it crashes. I have a hard time getting it to read games that work perfectly fine in a real NES with clean pins. I have to use Game Genie to make games work because the PCB is really thick. Game Genie is the only way I can get a stable connection. It wiped my 20 year old Dragon Warrior saves because the connection was so poor.

    Ok deleted my last comment as I have been messing with this thing alot more. Another issue I have found other than the floppy nes cart syndrome is loose controller ports.Don't know if you have the same issues but the ports on mine are way too loose. My original controllers slide in and out way too easily. It seems the ports don't hold the controllers in firm enough. This so far has only happened with a few original controllers I've had but not the wireless controller dongle.

    About the cartridge slot: A metal cartridge slot makes zero sense for soft plastic cartridges. In my opinion it was smart of analogue to allow more space so you don’t scrape your carts. Inevitably, It’ll make even more sense do you just have a plastic console. I currently own the Noir and the AVS. If I had to choose, even if they cost the same, I’d stick with the AVS. It’s just a better fit for real life.

      They stated the reason for the way this slot is was for different sized carts... What carts have that much of a variance in thickness to an original licensed cart?

    • @Galgomite
      @Galgomite 3 года назад

      @@Madlittlepixel I know of none. But I remember the "scandal" of the original NTs with carts that were scraped and peeled. Analogue had to send plastic cart slot liners to anyone requesting them. A loosey-goosey cart slot (that will barely be used, let's face it) is a better look than a cheese grater for collectors.

    Cnc aluminum cases like this are very expensive to produce. They could easily drop the price $200 by switching to injection moulding. If they kept the design simpler and made it just hdmi this could easily be a $200 console.
