  • Side channels and shallow water on big rivers present a great fly fishing opportunity. In this video, I show you how I fly fish side channels and shallow water on big rivers for trout and catch a few really good ones in the process.

Great stuff Johan. Awesome to see you there showcasing the importance of approach to a small stream like this especially in low clear water. Good video

Thank mate, much appreciated. I wish I could make it down this year to your area. Those streams you fish look so cool and perfect for the style I love.

Nice fish Johan, they certainly are strong fighting river trout. Some excellent vid footage mate and I like the backpack cam setup.👌🤙👍

That's wild had a break from fly fishing for 4 months and last I saw you had 4k subs now you have 39k so stoked for you! Nice work

Yeah things took off a bit late last year and then I put some shorts out after that as well then they blew up a bit. Sub count is misleading though as it's mostly from shorts and not a lot of views transfer over to my normal vids. But very happy to have seen some good growth. Hope you are back into the fly fishing again. Tight lines

Amazing that in such skinny water you catch such good size fish. The camera work early in the video showing the fish was really cool. Odd that your Insta360 camera made the bottom look so much darker--as if covered in silt. Videos taken with your other cameras showed a much lighter stream bottom. Enjoyed the video. Thanks for posting.

We are just lucky that we generally have oversized fish here in general. Even small water often holds some really good fish. The camera difference is the built in colour profiles and differences in angle and exposure. I'm honestly too lazy to fix it and match all the cameras. It's a bit much work. I do sometimes do it but only when it'stoo different.

Definitely shallow and lots of sun. Love to throw some stimulators down those overhangs. My kind of fishing! Stealth mode.

Stimulators would be a great choice. Absolutely love this kind of fishing. Tight lines.

Thanks for sharing how important it is to slowly and carefully scan the water. Otherwise, we may miss or spook some good fish. Appreciate the video, Johan.

Thanks Pawel, hope you fishing goes well this week. Keep an eye on the shallows, that's where most of the fish were went I went up the top last time.

Hi Johan, you picked some of my favourite water, those little rapids have all ways intrigued me and even in the deeper runoff’s on the T have produved some good fish. Good photography and some interesting shots. Cheers mate. Harera

Thanks, I love the shallow water on that river. I find it often fishes very well in winter too just with some different patterns and a bit more weight for the extra flow.

Spot and stalk is fulfilling when it works, frustrating when the fish doesn’t cooperate.
      As always, very enjoyable.
