We bought our 2019 Majestic 23a Class C from the Mesa AZ location in September 2024. Prior to buying it we inspected the motorhome ourselves, so we had a list of cosmetic issues that needed to be address. My husband checked under the hood, under the engine, under the motorhome. Once we decided on the vehicle we were interested in, we had it inspected by a certified inspector. So with our list and the list that the inspector found, Cruise America fixed everything on that list, so we bought the motorhome. The motorhome has a 3 month warranty and with any motorhome you have to use it to find out if everything works. We used it twice and we had 5 minor issues with the motorhome. Again I notified Cruise America in Mesa, and we brought the motorhome back so they could fix those issues and they did it, in 1 day. We are so happy with our motorhome and the customer service we received at the Mesa AZ location. I would definitely recommend if you don't want to spend an arm and a leg for a class c, buy one from Cruise America.

I really enjoyed the perspective you made this video from. I don't buy anything over $500 without sleeping on it, and giving a second thought on if it's a need or a want. If it's meant to be it'll be there tomorrow if I still want to make the purchase. I do like the idea that these rentals are manufactured with better floors and roofs, because I think the rv industry builds them as they are so they rot over time and you have to upgrade more frequently. Salesman have a family to feed at home, so they don't care about taxes, insurance, or your payments after the sale. It's nice to see that y'all aren't impulse buying because you're there under the pressure, great job showing that.

We purchased a 29a from Jason several years ago. As a first RV we didn’t want to spend a bunch of money until we decided we liked Rving. Jason was honest and had great experience. Never had any problems with the camper. We’ve since upgraded and traded it in for new Thor class A.

It’s a 2020, was rented for three years, 50 000 kms and is in great shape.
Was great to purchase it from a reputable dealer, we’re very happy with our purchase.

I got mine at Weldtec designs in San Diego they have 2,4,5 and 6 inch kits for ford and I think chevy RVs too. I got the 4 inch cuz I didn’t wanna scrape the bottom if/when I hit the occasional curb or rock. The kit costs around $4500 but I also paid for installation so altogether about $10k. Pricey I know but man driving it some wicked windy conditions in New Mexico I didn’t notice it till a major gust hit. For me the safety factor and the confidence and stability it gives me a s a solo RV woman is totally worth it. Another reason it was wise to buy this rig otherwise I couldn’t afford it and the upgrades.

I’m in the process of buying a 20 foot from Cruise America. I had looked at the 30 foot, which amusingly is less expensive, but I decided the 30 foot occupies the same lane as my truck and trailer and the compact fits in a parking spot and only has four tires instead of six. It also gets 15mpg.
I think they are basic sturdy units. They do offer two warranty packages for people who want them. One is 5 years/ 100,000 miles powertrain, and the other is on the house items which I don’t think I needed since I would plan to upgrade any items that fail, and can do basic plumbing and wiring myself.
I found insurance wasn’t bad as long as I promised to live in it less than 180 days. I suspect it wouldn’t be a lot more if I was going to full time in it.
The snag I am at right now is my credit union decided that they might not finance over 75,000 miles for an RV loan. CA says they have other options for loans, but I wasted a week thinking that my credit union was handling it. The easiest option would be to buy these with cash.
The other appeal of the 19G is that some people convert them to 4WD, although I would have hesitations about driving a 12 foot tall box off road, it could work in some situations. For ferries in Canada a 19 foot vehicle would save $10 per trip over a 20 foot, so depending on how close they measure I’d be willing to try it. A 20 foot is still a lot less than my truck and trailer on Washington ferries as well

So maybe I missed it but am I understanding that you’ll have two RVs one for the entire family to go camping and one for short local trips.
May I suggest that you rent from Cruise America a unit identical to the unit that you are planning to purchase take it camping over a weekend so you can judge how it drives how it rides and how set up and take down will be with this smaller unit. We did this when we were looking to buy an RV and we rented one of the cruise America units, we decided that the ride was too rough and the unit rattled too much. We preferred the nice comfortable ride that comes with airbag suspension. even though it’s only two of us we love having the space I agree it is more difficult to maneuver once you get to the campground but we find that it’s worth it just to have the comfort

I'm in the process of getting the thor 28a. I had a mechanic inspection today an an nrvia inspector goes tomorrow. So far the salesmen have been easy to work with (From my pov and my inspectors) and willing to fix any issues found.
Cruise America already did their inspections. The mechanic I hired found some minor issues that will be fixed, and that more than covered the mechanical inspection cost. Hopefully the rv inspector doesn't find any showstoppers.
Their financing rates are also very competitive, and were much better than the banks and credit unions I normally use.
Insurance (good sam) looks to be $850ish per year for comp/collision and a lot of extras like a roof policy. No idea on the commercial insurance though.
This will be our first RV. Super excited.

I watched your video wanted to let you know that buying and RV from Cruise America probably isn't a good idea. Like you, I assumed that CA would maintain their RV's as they would want their customer to have great vacation experience. From our rental experience with CA this was DEFINITELY not the case! We rented the same model of RV that you have been looking at for a one way trip from Fort Lauderdale to San Francisco. Being that they were well aware that we'd be driving from coast to coast and traveling a distance of over 3500 miles, my assumption was that we'd receive an RV that was ready for the trip. When we did the damage inspection prior to leaving the dealership there was plenty of damage on the outside to be noted, nothing that impeded it from driving, but it was ugly an in rough shape. When I left the dealership it dawned on me that they had not done an inspection of the inside of the RV, and given that there was considerable damage I returned to the dealership to have one done. During the short trip back I also noticed that the steering felt odd, like something was loose in the front suspension. Upon arriving back at the dealership I was told that they only inspect the outside as that's where they can make insurance claims for the damage, "existing interior damage was of no concern, just return the RV clean". Based on the amount of outside damage it's safe to say that insurance claim money is not used to repair the RV, it's pocketed as profit and nothing is done to repair the damage inside. When I asked about the loose steering, I was told by the location manager that it was completely fine. He said he had just driven the RV to fill it up with gas and it was fine, followed with I'd get use to the way it steers after a bit driving. I never got used to it and never felt safe, especially in the mountains in AZ, NV and CA.
Somethings to add to your inspection list:
    1. check the oil levels and how clean the oil is. After driving about 350 miles on our first day the check oil light came on. This seemed odd as I was told that had just had an oil change. We added oil and the oil on the dipstick was filthy. Obviously no oil change done.
    2. ask to see their maintenance records for the RV. They have the records as they do their own maintenance and look to see what's done and does it meet FORDS maintenance requirements during warranty and after warranty. I also highly recommend an independent mechanic inspects it prior to purchase.
    3. check to see that all of the components in the sewage system are there and in working order. Our RV didn't have a stinky slinky but were told they put a new one inside the RV, (we had to buy one). Check the operation for the grey and black water tank levers. I used the toilet in our driveway when we were packing the RV for our trip, the waste from the toilet went directly on our driveway. When I was cleaning up the mess, I checked the black tank lever and it was closed. When I pulled on the black lever it came completely out and wasn't connected to anything.
    4. check to see if the city water inlet and power connection are in good working order. the first night when we connected to city water, water was spraying everywhere from the backside of the RV water connector. The plug on the power cord had seen better days, but with some manipulation we were able to connect it.
    5. check to see that the fridge door locks. Ours was broken and the first corner we turned everything in the fridge emptied on the floor. Fortunately I had packed some duct tape as it was a better fix then what was recommended by their travel support team (they suggested "go to Walmart and buy some rope")
    6. check the condition of the kitchen and storage cabinets. laminate was peeling on the divider between the kitchen and the bed as well as on the dinette table top. Cabinet doors were literally falling apart and many of the gas struts that were supposed to hold them close were broken (good thing I had duct tape!) and most drawers drawer glides were in rough shape.
    7. check to see if the flooring is secured. ours wasn't where the bed bath area meets that living areas. It was torn, loose and it was trip hazard. once again, good thing I had duct tape!
    8. check to see how well the window coverings are attached to the walls and look to see how many times they've been reattached. The window covering in the bed area fell off on day 2. Based on the number of screw holes in the wall it had been reinstalled many many times before. Ahhh duct tape, my new best friend! lol I seriously think CA should give you a roll of duct tape when your get your RV.
To sum it up, I wouldn't by a used rental RV from Cruise America. Based on our experience, they are abused and not maintained or repaired unless they can't be rented. They travel like a truck, so every bump in the road is really rough and it stresses the integrity of everything that has been used to make the living area of the coach. I also don't think that Cruise America requests anything different in their build quality other than perhaps the vinyl coverings on the mattress cushions, if anything I'd say they purchase a stripped down version. I'm sure the RV that we had was close to being decommissioned. It would be sold at a low price, but it was also near the end of its life without a serious injection of $$$$ to make it safe, livable and reliable.

I have rented from Cruise America 3 times. They are decent, slightly better than entry level RVs, I call them bulletproof. They have fewer bells and whistles than a retail RV and they are all the same among that model. I didn't buy one but as I understand it, the buyer can go through the RVs that are available and if any issues come up for the one you choose they fix the problem, within reason. One real advantage is you can make changes to the amenities and interior appearance in order to make it your own, for example there is no TV so if you want a mounted TV you would need to do it yourself. The company is centered in Mesa, AZ where they have a large service and restoration shop. Also you can choose to not have the Majestic graphics on the RV you buy, if it's not done already. As with all RV purchases, new or used, have a deep inspection done on the house systems and the chassis systems and seriously consider the extended warranty, I think it's 5 years added.

    Just saw your video.
We rented a Cruise Canada 28A this past summer and really enjoyed it. These units are great for the budget conscious buyers, and especially for the newby RVers (like me).
We chose to rent the 28A because the extra 5ft made a world of difference in the floor plan, and didn’t make a huge difference in parking. It had a full queen size bed and had a separate bath /shower. Also, it has a 3 seater divan that folded out into a ‘jackknife’ bed instead of that single ‘Jumpseat’. of the 23A. BTW, The 23A is actually 25ft long, and takes up more than one standard parking spot)
Furthermore, the 28A was cheaper to rent, and on the Cruise America website, cheaper to buy.
A little bit about the performance and handling:
The 28A sits on a Ford E-450 chassis and is powered by a Triton V-10 engine. This thing is a beast for power! We toured the Cabot Trail with it and had no problem with going up or down some steep gradients. I found that the 28A was surprisingly easy to drive, and reasonably good on gas for its size. (The averager showed 11mpg, but I was purposely trying not to flog it while driving)
    Hope this helps!

With almost any new RV, the first few years are going to be spent fixing things that break or were never right to begin with. In my opinion it makes more sense to buy a used one where someone else has already invested dozens of hours of frustration and those trips back to the dealer, plus you'll save a few bucks. Needless to say I would never buy a brand new one. Not sure I'd want a used rental as people tend to abuse rentals more but at the very least most of the kinks should be worked out by then, plus I really like that they are built better to begin with. You might just be onto something here!

I was told that not only was that one already sold but they had $1000 deposits for the next SIXTY that arrived! Turned out for the best though as the Cruise America rentals all had considerably more than 100K miles on the engines, transmissions etc. We ended ip buying one from a private owner with 42K on it. If the fridge, generator or whatever failed we could make do but a drivetrain failure is an absolute trip ender and huge expense. Rental companies do some VERY careful calculations, and they sell off their fleet vehicles at the point (time or mileage) when the anticipated maintenance is going to start zooming. Engine compression, suspension, transmission...everything has been looked at in terms of expected failure. That's how EVERY fleet operator rotates their equipment, before it gets worn out and THEY have to do major repairs.

There is no way i'd be buying any rv that has moisture inside, (or even ants 😳), cause that's a guaranteed u have mold in the wood where u cant see it by glancing at it and delamination on the outside 😱. U gotta be handy to fix that type of damage. Anything that has lifted trim or damage crunch that wasn't fixed when it occurred is gonna be rotted, a can of worms underneath.
Happy hunting, I hope you find what u want. 🍻

We've seen many Cruise America units around here in New England. From what we've seen and heard, these rentals aren't built to the same quality as others. They've also been beat on by people who aren't familiar with them and don't care for them like one they actually own. Run, don't walk away from them!!

There’s an RV dealer that has a lot in Summerfield FL that deals in only used RV’s. It’s called PPL Motorhomes. Not sure if you have heard about them or not. They have more lots in Texas and seem to have a pretty good reputation. Good luck in your search.

Now, imagine yourself with ZERO RV experience and renting a motorhome for the first time, knowing VERY LITTLE and only what the rental location offered. Imagine screwing something up? Imagine driving it in places you shouldn't and tearing something up mechanically (but not enough to be caught on the return inspection) and now imagine that you are just one of the 768 people that rented that same RV before it ended up on the for sale list. Buyer beware!

Not a huge secret. All CA sales are no more than 4 years old. You can also apply a rental fee toward the purchase if you want to rent first and try it out. Ours is 2017 28a. We rented our first one in 2013 from CA. Bought our 2017 in 2021. Loving it so far. Make sure you check all systems - especially ones “out of season” cuz you may not use those systems for 6 months and it would suck to find out later that they’re faulty.

We purchased our first RV from El Monte rentals in Southern California best decision ever it was a 2020 that we bought at the end of 21. We decided to go with the rental company because they provided all the maintenance records any issues that the RV had within the first year were fixed they kept the vehicles maintained because they want to be able to rent them out. We got it for roughly 60% of what a new RV that model would have cost. We kept it for 2 years before we decided we were going to go full-time and at that point we also decided we needed a bigger RV so we traded it in and got a good deal on a new RV the purchasing a rental in my opinion is a really good decision

Please make sure you research how the winnie's roof is built! I watch AZ Expert here on You tube and he just recently posted an rv roof replacement and Winnebago doesn't always build how we'd expect... many newer winnies (I believe 2019-newer) models have no structural support in the roofs of their units... just decorative interior glu-lam panel - foam insulation - 2nd glu-lam panel and finally roofing material. I'm not sure if this is just the class A or also class C... but, spending 30k I'd hate to see such good peeps have issues a few years down the road. We have a 2009 Forest River 32" class C (when they had a better build/reputation), which had also been a rental. Other than the continuous sealing and deteriorating plastic parts that all RV's deal with we've been rather pleased. Additionally... given the covid market flood of people purchasing, I'd be curious to shop in winter and obtain better pricing/options!
FYI- I will say... ours did not come with any leveling jacks, which is fine... but this next season I will be installing stabilizing jacks just to detour the weight shifting and movement while camping! (if they aren't ordering a ladder, they probably aren't ordering leveling/stabilizers given rental operator risk of error/damage.
Love watching you guys... and keep up the excellent work!

I question the assumption that "built for rental" units are sturdier that other units. Ask to speak to a manufacturer rep for that brand and get documents in hand showing the areas where the build specs are better than other similar units for that retailer. You folks sounded like you were trying to convince yourselves...your next step ( or possibly your first step) is to do the above research with any brand you want to consider. Always have the mindset, "show me the receipts". Ask the brand renter company for their spec sheets and manufacturer's or ask to see their corporate contract with the manufacturer.

The reconditioned RVs come with a free 3 month, 3k mile powertrain warranty and Cruise America offers a 5year 100k mile powertrain warranty for $1,995. And a 5 year coach warranty for around $1900.
No free warranty on "pre-reconditioned RVs," but the extended warranty can be applied to "pre-reconditioned RVs" And from what I have heard Cruise America's extended warranties are the best/easiest warranty companies to work with because it uses the same company and network that Cruise America uses for it's active rental fleet and no vendor wants to risk loosing that contract.

I doubt there built any better than the regular RVs as there still built By the same guys being paid for piecework That may or do miss staples screws and bolts ect to make more money Plus I think they hire the 3 blind mice to inspect the finished units it seems Best to find an older unit now if you are buying one ,as you will be upgrading the appliances to 12 v and adding solar ect Maybe The other thing is GVRW can this vehicle handle the people and luggage water and fuel without being overweight ?

Those models you showed us looked (to me) as dark, depressing, and dingy. It would take some $$$$ to transform any of them into something in your style, so it would not just be the cost of the rig, you'd likely be spending another $2K - $8k upgrading the interior + other upgrades you'd want as well. Just food for thought.

Have y'all considered a travel trailer? With the use case you described, you could probably find a lightweight trailer that you can tow with your SUV. It would be WAY below your budget, and would be enough to have some of the comforts of home on the trips with only some of the family.
The suggestion from to rent a cruise America for these one offs is also not a bad idea. Probably cheaper in the long run if you factor in maintenance, insurance, taxes, registration, storage, etc. Worth at least running the numbers on.
