  • You may have been told by your dentist that you need to get a bone graft.
    This could have been after you got the tooth pulled, or could be before you are ready to get an implant. But what does this mean and why do I need more bone in my mouth?
    Hi, I'm Dr. William Park from Blessed Smile and Smile On You Dentistry. I’m here to go over the bone grafting procedure and I will answer some of the questions you may have had about why this needs to be done.

    I have watched an untold number of dental implant explainer videos and none of them did as thorough a job as you did here.
    Thank you!

    Excellent video...
    I wanted to know before my consultation visit in a couple of weeks answers regarding extractions, implants and grafting bone... which wasn't included in my #19 tooth extraction 4 days ago. So how long to wait after tooth extraction for bone graft install if found that it's needed, next to wait for the implant? It's nice to learn (while watching this particular video) it can be done during the installation of the implant, therefore unnecessary to wait an additional 3 months for bone graft, after already waiting for the gums to heal after the extraction date... This is great news indeed....... Thank you, Doctor, I greatly appreciate it...

    My ortho recommend bridging but i choose the implant. Only because im concern about my facial structure after pulling those 4premolars. Im on my adult brace right now im 37. I was inform that my 2lower molars cant be move both sides because of boneloss. Im stress about it. I thought i was only paying for the brace now leads to 2 implants and bone grafting. My question is can i have bonegraft then move my molars instead of implant? Will that be possible? Im allergenic to certain things and an implant is a foreign object. Hope u can ans dr. Tx.

    Which bone graft material do you recommend ? Molars with/without sinus lift. Thank you.

    • @smileonyouandblessedsmile
      @smileonyouandblessedsmile  5 месяцев назад

      The type of bone graft material will depend based on the area being grafted and also on the goals of the grafting procedure. Your surgeon may also be more familiar and experienced with certain types of grafts. Some upper molars may or may not need sinus lifts depending on the quantity/quality of bone present.

    • @smileonyouandblessedsmile

      Bone grafts can certainly be done before or even years after a tooth is extracted. It all depends on the situation, so it may be a good idea to get things checked out! Hope that helps!

    Aren't the bone grafts made from Cadaver bones? Isn't that the bone substitute material is?

    • @smileonyouandblessedsmile
      @smileonyouandblessedsmile  5 месяцев назад

      There are a number of different types of bone grafts. Some of the most common sources are from cadaver, from animal, or synthetic. Regardless of where the bone is sourced from, it will be treated to properly disinfect and sterilize the material before it comes anywhere near the dental office. Hope this helps!

    Is it normal to have dry throat for days after tooth removal and bone graft surgery?

    • @smileonyouandblessedsmile
      @smileonyouandblessedsmile  7 месяцев назад

      This can be normal, as you likely have had to keep your mouth open for quite some time, and also had a lot of suctioning done too which can dry out your mouth quite a bit.

    • @smileonyouandblessedsmile
      @smileonyouandblessedsmile  7 месяцев назад +1

      Generally, bone graft materials are extensively sterilized and prepared so that it is literally just the bone mineral material, with out any other contaminations present, so you should not need to be worried about any covid related transmissions

    Hi sir, Im 50 and I'm getting full mouth implants hopefully by 6 months from now. I'm going for sinus lift & bone graft surgery under full anesthesia some time next week. Doctor told me that they need, 2 cubic like pieces for my upper jaw which they'll take from my own jaw(or chin) and and also need 2 smaller but longer pieces for my lower which i think they are going to use synthetic fillers for. Do you think it will be painful. I still don't fully understand, why do they want to use my chin, as at first he suggested using my hip but decided he didn't need a very big piece so now is suggesting using my own jaw for grafting. Will it have complications. Do you think my gums will recover well. Do you think i should go on with it or chicken out of the whole procedure. They told me they perform a lot of these operations, but at the moment its terrifying me..What do you think i should do, as im in urgent need of a full set of theeth. Im sick of dentures. Sorry for the long comment.

      Sounds like you have a good plan set for how you can get your mouth to a healthy state!
      Any kind of dental procedures do come with some amount of discomfort, and also comes with the possibility of complications, but do not let this dissuade you!
      The long term effects of living without teeth are far worse and more uncomfortable than the short time that you will be enduring while you are getting things fixed! Hope this helps~

    • @smileonyouandblessedsmile
      @smileonyouandblessedsmile  7 месяцев назад +1

      After any dental surgical procedure, it is always a good idea to stick to a gentler diet. Nothing too hot or spicy. Nothing you need to be chewing too hard. Avoid foods with smaller bits like rice or seed-containing foods which can get trapped around the grafted site.
      Hope this helps! Check out our extraction and implant post-op videos which may provide you some additional information!

      Generally, the placement of the bone graft itself is a completely harmless procedure. However, this often comes along with the removal of a tooth or some kind of gum or implant surgery which is where a little more of the discomfort may come in.
      You will generally be completely numb for the procedure itself, but you should expect some minor discomfort in the days following the procedure.
