How in the world does a man find enough time in a lifetime to build such a complex rail system at his own home. I am baffled with the setup this man has. Absolutely incredible to say the least.
This has to be the most amazing and coolest, live steam railroad I have ever seen in my life. The locomotive is really impressive & the length of it and the train is quite incredible. The owner is one very lucky guy. Congratulations mate! Treat BIG BOY, like a woman and she'll give you no grief, as a full size loco driver once said to me. Enjoy your time with her my friend. The work on bringing an actual Big Boy back to life continues in Cheyenne Wyoming and having seen its smaller brother the Challenger running several years ago just wetted the appetite.
I had an Uncle who was a Fireman out of the Cheyenne yard in the days of Steam. He said if you slide a nickel under each of the drive wheels of a Steam Locomotive, "It ain't goin nowhere". Even a nickel can act as a chock. I love this video; kudos to the Locomotive maker and crew. Also to Jono Marshall. Carry on.
Sir you have a super piece of equipment and I say this with experience of having pulled the throttle a few times. Take care of it and you will get decades of enjoyment.

Whilst Tom miller’s big boy was built in the UK. It is not the same big boy that ran at Dobwall’s adventure park. That loco is significantly larger and currently resides in pieces in Australia.
My jaw dropped watching Big Boy roll back onto the track lol. Just amaze at such a setup that just goes on and on. This is such a treat to watch and inspiring.

This video is my happy place. I cannot recall how many times I’ve watched it. Tom’s creation is truly unrivalled in its magnificence. Sad to see that the railroad will not remain. I’m fortunate in that I live in New Zealand and now we have Tom’s two main locomotives here; Big boy 4005 and k-36 482 (now under the custody of Ian Welsh) having seen both run in person no video of photo ever truly does these locomotives justice. Thank you Shane for bringing the big boy to New Zealand and thank you Jono for recording this fantastic video.
First of all congrats on your purchase. In my humble opinion the greatest engine steam engines were the 2-8-8-2 Mallet, 2-8-0 Constellation, the famous Day Light from Lima locomotive works in Pa. I'm from New Jersey close to The Pennsylvania boarder and we visit the train museum often. And the best example of any engine is actually my absolute favorite......the Big Boy. What not to love!!!! I was going to criticize the bridges at first glance, until they got to the one farther out. Cool stuff. I want to find a video about Walt Disney's railroad. He was a major fan. I saw a huge 'coffee table' book all about Walt's railroad, but I haven't had it in my hands. This is passion, realized.

Wow! I have seen clips of this running on Tom's home line when he hosted an open day for the NMRA. Might have to make a journey to Tauranga next time I come to NZ to see it in action. I believe the loco was made here in Pomgolia?

Did a little digging. This loco was built between 1979 and 1982. It weighs 2000 pounds and the tender waighs 800 pounds. It is 17 feet long and offered for sale at $245,000 though no telling what it actually sold for but I am guessing close....WOW
I wish I knew she was 4 sale, guess I will need to go down under to see her run. I can see the real 4005 too its a lot closer. The real 4005 took a nasty spill split a switch and laid on her side, late in there life but was fixed and lived till the end. I know that no one here ever thought we would see a real one run, but 4014 will soon.

You Tube of my locomotives first run at my clubs track situated at Memorial Park in Tauranga New Zealand.A number of matters to resolve with the firing but the regauging from American 7.5 inch. the loco and tender were built under a commission for its previous owner by world renowned model makers Severn Lamb in the UK.It took 3 men 16000 hours between 1979 and 1982

The music was perfect. There was this little club at griffith park here in LA called "live steamers". My father would take me on consecutive saturdays for years when I was a boy. Sadly it is not there anymore as of a few years ago, but upon hearing "big hard sun" and watching the ride, I was back there 30 years ago on a saturday. Thank you so much.

It's your video, but that's the only reason I am not giving it a like. I'm not going to dislike it from spite. Hi the loco has a dry weight of 900kgs(2000lbs)and the tender has a dry weight of 400kgs(700lbs)
