I hope you guys understand that it would be easier to mount the driver arms to the wheels and hook up the tender and fire it up and back it down there under it's own power.
Back in around 1998 We went to a Southern Pacific Railway Convention in Portland Oregon .Wow ENCREDIBLE beautiful layout. HE LOVED THE FEATHER RIVER COUYON ON UP RAILWAY he copied this line had working block signals
This video is my happy place. I cannot recall how many times I’ve watched it. Tom’s creation is truly unrivalled in its magnificence. Sad to see that the railroad will not remain. I’m fortunate in that I live in New Zealand and now we have Tom’s two main locomotives here; Big boy 4005 and k-36 482 (now under the custody of Ian Welsh) having seen both run in person no video of photo ever truly does these locomotives justice. Thank you Shane for bringing the big boy to New Zealand and thank you Jono for recording this fantastic video.
Nice job on converting to 7 1/4” but i was horrified to see the angle grinder used with no protection to the surrounding parts cleanup must have been a pain, this is the same engine in Modeltec ? I presume the valve gear was disconnected to make it easier to push around the track
My jaw dropped watching Big Boy roll back onto the track lol. Just amaze at such a setup that just goes on and on. This is such a treat to watch and inspiring.
Ha, just like working on the BIG ones--- always something!! WOW-- I love watching it, but can't do it.. no tools, don't know how- and can't afford to either...GOOD LUCK to you getting it smoothed up. Can't wait to see it run (I'm doing this now as you're milling the pieces..)
Whilst Tom miller’s big boy was built in the UK. It is not the same big boy that ran at Dobwall’s adventure park. That loco is significantly larger and currently resides in pieces in Australia.
Beautiful trains. Beautiful landscaping. Extraordinary craftsmanship. And you ruined the entire experience of hearing that 4005 BigBoy with some crappy music. It's your video, but that's the only reason I am not giving it a like. I'm not going to dislike it from spite. But this would have been the best steam train video on RUclips if you just hadn't added the music. The train is the music.
I had an Uncle who was a Fireman out of the Cheyenne yard in the days of Steam. He said if you slide a nickel under each of the drive wheels of a Steam Locomotive, "It ain't goin nowhere". Even a nickel can act as a chock. I love this video; kudos to the Locomotive maker and crew. Also to Jono Marshall. Carry on.
Did a little digging. This loco was built between 1979 and 1982. It weighs 2000 pounds and the tender waighs 800 pounds. It is 17 feet long and offered for sale at $245,000 though no telling what it actually sold for but I am guessing close....WOW

It's weird to think of taking an angle grinder to a part of a model locomotive.
This is a rich mans hobby.😀
I would’ve love to hear what the train actually sounds like instead of the music
Why did he sell his gorgeous big boy Locomotive?

So

Behold, The Mighty 4005 Has Been Hit With a Shrink Ray!
Union Pacific 344 ❓
Is this the same locomotive that came from the USA?
That is magnificent! I only wish you had more video of her running under her own power
It was all good right up to the point of the run and you fast-forward the video and playing the music.
I have many happy memories of riding behind that locomotive at Dobwalls

I gave it a thumbs down only because no follow up was made...

Please sell this engine please
Would've loved to see this footage at it's actual speed and sans music.
Such a shame they run on gas and not coal.
$$$$""
Honestly , this is one of my favorite videos on You tube ! . love the content and the music . Thank You ...
Will there ever be a part 3?
Did you get your Big boy running good down under. Just curious......
How long is this Union Pacific Big Boy Locomotive
Its a shame that this now sits in a shed and has been used 3 times in the last 3 years
What I don 't understand is why people stopped running the Big Boys on the Live Steamers?
