Great comment you had - if you want to sell in a declining market, the best thing to do is to leap-frog down, under the falling price, and get the heck out. Real estate analogy - our neighbors had a $1.4M house up for sale, in a declining market - they waited and waited for a comparable offer, and slow-walked $50K reductions every 60 days. A little more than a year later, they sold it for $975K. It would have sold immediately for $1.2M a year prior. Never try to catch a falling knife.

Interesting analogy, and it's probably true in any speculative market including stocks (I've watched that happen too many times and early in my career, to me!). If you want to get out, then get out instead of "yeah, I want to get out of this $50,000 position, but you know... I'd like to only lose another $100, not another $200, so I'll hang on for a better price..." It's like, dude, you're quibbling over and trying to milk $100 out of a $50,000 position you want to get out of and is tanking.

I agree. We've all taken massive losses because a lot of us thought the bubble would last a few more years. I made out pretty well during the bubble, but i did take some L's along the way. My biggest win was selling 90% of my collection during the bubble. Im glad i did because i was becoming a hoarder rather than a collector. I got more than I hoped because no one would have given me that amount of $$$ now.

Man, there were some dumb mistakes in there, and I'm glad you posted them just so I know you're human. 🤣 Seriously, thanks for being open about your duds and specifically what happened to make them duds for you. I love stuff like this that helps educate. It'll help me for when I decide to sell someday.

Appreciate you showing beats in this one. You add a lot of context and share your insights on how we might avoid similar traps. Such a practical video that will start helping me immediately, thank you!

Not surprised that the majority is Marvel and not just this list but most similar videos as well

Eggs, omelette. Frankly, it’s certainly apparent you are doing better than the 2020-2023 spec crowd at this point in time. Informative as always appreciate the video - and here’s to a better 2024 (for us buyers, apologies!). Thank you again.

As an Excel Guru I would be interested in your tracking for buying and selling comics as well as fees for cleaning, pressing and shipping. Do you also track value of comic from purchase? Great insights and keep up the great videos! 👍

More important to know what the losses are than the wins if you are trying to make a profit. Thanks for sharing.

Great video. Learned a lot. Would also learn about your top 10 Wins but then someone out there might feel bad if they sold it to you via auction or whatever. So I get why you wouldn’t want to do that

I appreciate stuff like this Ryan. I know Bronzeville Comics talked about a book he overpaid and it helps other collectors see we are all human and not all purchases are winners. Sorry to hear about the ones you mentioned. In Reality it's lessens your tax burden when added onto the other profitable books. I follow you on Instagram and I don't think I saw the follow up on that Justice League book. I'm glad to hear Ebay removed the feedback. I always check buyers feedback when they send offers. I think when they said would you "except" maybe their poor English could have been a red flag 😂😂

Definitely a buyers market. I still feel it’s going to go lower too. I’ve been offering FMV for GA/SA books here and there but many sellers still think it’s 2021/22. If you put in FMV for an auction, there’s a really good chance you’re going to get a “deal” (I got a couple I’m really pleased with just yesterday!). Good times if you’re a true collector and not so good for flippers.

Thanks for sharing! I know this talks about your losses but do you have target for when you sell such as its trending at 20% profit? ETA Nick used to mention 10% seemed a bit on the low side but he did deal in bigger books.

Why sell a book if you know you're gonna take a loss? Id rather hold onto it.

as a collector when you get the things you want and someone gets what they want its win/win, even if both books went down. of course from financial standpoint that's loser talk. lol

At what point do you decide to take a loss? When they are under by 25% without any future spec?

I'm interested in selling modern comics 70's and 80's mostly that are CGC graded (the values range between 200.00 to 2,000.00 on average). I wonder if you or some of my fellow subscribers to your channel can possibly help me in determining what the best auction houses might be. I'm currently trying to decide between ComicLink and Heritage, but I'd be open to hearing about other auction houses of a similar caliber. I thank you all in advance!

I’m curious because it seems like you really like these books. I’m wondering why you don’t just hang on for a few more years and see what shakes out. It sounded like most of the purchases here were only a couple years old.

Because I am more effective with the money actively buying and selling than waiting years to see if they go up.
