      The crane lost control of the steel it was lifting, if the building was finished and people in it, it wouldnt have collapsed...

    The cranes are barely tied back to the deck. Most of what I'm seeing is CFMF construction, minimizing structural steel. Nothing wrong there. This would have been reviewed by the structural engineer and delegated PE. Building inspectors and special inspections would have also reviewed this. Lots of liability here

    Those little "I beams" look like tooth picks....whatever happened to multiple steel beam supports? Seems like today's "modern" skyscrapers are being constructed without not enough structural support. Could "cutting corners" be to blame here?

    • @pcno2832
      @pcno2832 4 года назад

      They are always trying to lighten them up. Prewar skyscrapers had steel that was embedded into concrete fireproofing and plastered concrete block walls even on upper floors. It didn't always work well because concrete eats steel, but they were strong if maintained. Now they have fire-rated drywall, spray on cementitious foams, intumescent fireproofing paint and active dampers to stop a light, flexible building from swaying. Either they went too far or they just didn't secure the structure before building up and out from it.

    • @HobbyOrganist
      @HobbyOrganist 4 года назад

      They are made crappy because they know the building wont even be there in 50 years anyway, like everything else, we dont h ave 900 year old buildings like they do in Europe, we destroy massively built stone buildings after 30 years because they are "outdated" or someone wants to build bigger on THAT lot

    Wow.. Look at those thin steel colums, at least 3 levels of them with no bracing visible nowhere... (0.38) What about buckling forces...?
    When I see these images, the hair in the back of my neck stands up...And I even saw a mobile work platform on top of the rubble (2.20), must have been in use while placing that steel girder, the one still attached to the crane. That one is way too heavy for a light construction like that imo

  • @mikeconklin1567

    The pool sits nice and pretty on the side of the roof. There should have been documentation on the Threshold Inspection that inspects the shoring of each floor. As concrete cures that floor has to be supported for the next floor concrete placement. The collapse shows proof of an illegal event.

    How tall are the ceilings? Because the scissor lift is open/extended and it doesnt look enough room for a person to be operating it. So that would mean it yad to be on the top floor. What would they need to be doing? Maybe to help place the beam that was hanging on the crane. Would be interesting to knoe

    5:00 From the concrete blocks that seem to have been embedded in the steel of the outer walls, I'm guessing that they were using them as infill, maybe to meet fire code, hoping that the rest of the structure would keep this heavy wall vertical and for some reason, maybe because the floors were still setting, the connection wasn't strong enough. I hope the injured workers are eventually OK.
