The running sound effect is identical to the one in International Superstar Soccer Pro (PS1, 1997). Also, the menus and all that stuff are standard Konami since the ISS games in SNES. So yeah, it seems Konami tried a lot with trial & error till they polished the formula with International Superstar Soccer Pro 98 (Winning Eleven 3) which was in my opinion the first game where good PES gameplay flourished (PES is basically a polished Winning Eleven 4, and Winning Eleven 4 is a polished, more western Winning Eleven 3) I'm talking about PS1's PES, the PS2 golden age PES games (PES 3 to PES 6) are basically better games thanks to the Renderware engine, but PES 1 to PES 2 had their roots in here.
Of course, the first iterations of these late 90's Konami football games where the J. League ones, and it seems that the most popular of them got an international version (which the west received). Btw, the similiarities with ISS 64 series are in the animations, so yeah guys, Konami studios (Tokio, Osaka, Sapporo) actually shared assets between them, no surprise there. Btw, is the narrator John Kabira? Probably, this game is from 98, just like WE3.

Yeah this is basically based on the ISS N64 engine rather than the psx ISS one.

This looks pretty good, similar to Tecmo's Go Go Goal. The animations seem a little half-baked and nowhere near the subtlety of Sega's magnificent Worldwide Soccer series. I've never played this one so I can't comment on the controls, but hopefully it plays a good game of soccer. Saturn was blessed with a lot of good soccer titles, so if you're a fan of the sport, you'll have a good time.

Tecmo's Go Go Goal is 1000 times better than this. I mean, wth.
Worldwide Soccer is years behind Tecmo's Go Go Goal too! it uses 2D sprites and a vertical camera.
It may be can't be compared to Tecmo's Go Go Goal full 3D that resembles Virtua Striker and Winning Eleven.

Unfortunately, it lacked the best of them all, which was Winning Eleven.

Tried on Beetle Saturn (retroarch) with Saturn Pro Controller from Retrobit. I configured controls to my liking (basically very Konami-PS1-like). All i can say is that it feels very Konami, and is a better game than International Super Pro (also called "Winning Eleven 97" or "Goal Storm 97", a 1997 game for PS1, this game's most alike brother) in terms of control and gameplay, faster, and more responsive.
