So with fast enough dendro app, you can have thoma with HIGH EM doing massive 'burning' dmg rather than normal pyro- this could be interesting if burning changes and gets mega buffed for our dendro teams or something

Xinyan is the saddest character in the game, the only 2 times people talks about her is when she doesn't have any scene and when she gets her scene but has super annoying dialogue.
A good rule of thumb I’ve realised as I played Thoma is that he’s pretty much good in any teams with squishy hypercarries. He’s also a good substitute for Zhongli in many team comps for those who don’t have him
For some reason I really like running a childe kazuha Bennet Thoma team in the open world. Ik it seems redundant but it give a ton of comfort and it has my favorite husbandos lmao
C4 Kaeya for the shield, not C2 Kaeya. As a Kaeya main ever-suffering with the problem of standard banner not giving me his cons I know them all by heart lol. But great video! Very helpful! Thanks for making it!
@@Braxophone You and me both! I've only ever gotten to C1 Kaeya cause I bought him from the shop back in June, never pulled him from standard. But at the very least I'll be getting his C2 come December so that's something at least. As cool as Kaeya's shield capabilites are though, he only gains a shield after getting to 20% health, it's not like Yanfei's where it activates on her burst, so I don't think it's that viable in terms of actually being useful in a build. It's still pretty cool tho and might serve some niche use as an automatic panic shield.

really liked the breakdown, esp sub-dps section because i ran into the exact same issues (investment needs) while doing some light planning/ theorycrafting based on the beta but never sat down to actually math out precisely what those numbers should be... and now i don't have to :] thanks, brax! lol

IWTL pointed it out too. its paper thin without stacks but the fact of the matter is its a shield regardless and it prevents you from flinching. in any case, thats super important for yoimiya whose attack sequences get stronger at the later hits!
I used thoma along with Childe and Benny. Childe can be very squishy, especially in inazuma (enemies, random lightning strike, and any other thing that randomly reduces my HP without me noticing it). I inject him with 200% ER and the rest to his HP, and he's amazing! He can keep my childe alive and stay at >70% HP easily to get benny's buff! And yes, I don't have zhong li.
Thank you for the video! Currently playing him with Hu Tao, Kazuha, XQ team and been enjoying it so far. I think it might be better than the double geo (ZL/Albedo) I was running before, but it also might be just artifacts difference or smth.
For Hu Tao team Xingqiu is always a must Hu Tao, Xingqiu, Albedo Zhongli or Hu Tao Xing Kazuha Thoma are all very good team I would recommended the team with Zhongli in Abbyss if Zhongli is free, if not then Thoma is a great substitute, mimic closely what Zhongli can do.
The OG’s were more general purpose supports (think bennet, fishcl, xingqiu, etc.) while these new supports are more niche and for the debut of new 5*’s (think diona for freeze with childe, sara for electro buff on raiden, thoma for hutao shielder and pyro application to swirl). Not sure if I like this direction or if I prefer the OG style supports tho
@@Gimothi just saying but diona was definitely not made for childe. They're a pretty bad pair and diona is much better utilised in a pyro comp or Morgana with mona/xingqui as the hydro applier .
Something worth mentioning is that if you manage to refine your Kitain Cross Spear to R5 (which can be ridiculously easy depending on your luck), it’s essentially a passive C4 effect of refunding energy.
Petition for Mihoyo to fucking add the Sacrificial Spear right now, the only weapon that is missing on the Sacrificial set, and it would be the perfect weapon for Thoma, not only it would generate double the particles, but it would stack two shields with it's passive
Sac Spear will never happen because some 5* constellations are literally that: an additional cast of E. (Xiao, etc) They would be sued by people who spent money to get that additional cast if it becomes accessible for free.
@@jeremiahsmith916 by that logic Sacrificial Bow couldn't also exist, because Ganyu has a constellation that gives her an additional flower on her E, Sacrificial Bow does that without the Constellation, that's why this excuse never makes sense, everyone says this, and it doesn't makes sense at all. And even if gave Xiao an additional E, it doesn't matter, Sacrificial Spear wouldn't fit him just because that passive, if the spear follow the Sacrificial set logic, then it would have Energy Recharge as sub stat, and it's useless for Xiao, it's better getting some in your artifacts, and using a better weapon than one with Energy Recharge, the additional E is for additional particles only, his main source of damage is his burst, using sacrificial spear will give him more particles, but will also reduce his burst damage, that is why it's useless
Thanks Brax for all your hard work. You always make sure to point out a couple of details that we did not think about. I am glad I have a good idea where my ER should be at now. I hope that my Baal can replace the Fiscl on that Yoimiya team and make that team comp work with Thoma. I like that he is less niche than Sara (and potentially Gorou). I hope Thoma will be able to synergize well with Ayato (if he comes out in the future) as well as future Dendro characters. I think Thoma might have some upside in the future but only the future will tell us that. Thanks again!
I originally saved up for Ganyu, but I dumped my entire 46k+ Primogems on these banners. C1 Hu Tao (won both 50/50 as someone who always fails them) one SoH, finally R5 Sac Sword and a C5 Thoma. I still want to try for C6 on him just because this little buff it provides is even more min-max for Hu Tao. I'm super happy with the results, even if it was a rather big change of mind. Thanks for this breakdown of Thoma, planning on turning him into a Walmart pyro resonance Zhongli.

I was thinking of doing a comp of Thoma, Diona, Xiangling, and Aloy, with Xiangling as main dps and the other three as supports. Honestly, you’re probably cringing if you are a meta player but I rarely do spiral abyss so that stuff doesn’t impact me much. Rather, I think it would be fun to play that way, and like the idea of the team. Though clearly I’m not completely unaffected as I’m kind of curious to see what others think.
Actually, that is kind of a decent team, Double shield with Diona as healer, Xiangling apply pyro everywhere and Aloy as reverse melt burst. You can't really do melt with xiangling since she has no internal cooldown (ICD for short) at all with her ult. Even with Diona and Aloy combined her ult will instantly melt all the cyro and never melt again after that, it will be diona and aloy's reverse melt instead.
Don't worry I also build Xiangling as dps, and a hybrid build because I'm using 2 pieces of Bloodstainted and 2 pieces of Crimson My build is probably too cursed for meta player
what I dont like is if you choose to build him as dps, his dmg is okay.. but you have light shied.. if i build HP he does his job at shielding but deals no dmg
I have a weird team which somehow works through magical means and thoma is no different. This was a very useful insight so hopefully I should be able to min max my team a bit more with this guide :D!! (I'm a chongyun main with xingqiu and thoma support, and a barbara as a healer lol)
ive loved thoma sm since he was announced he's so underrated !!! he's my second main. rn i have him c3 + have him fully built w focus on HP + pyro damage (+ r5 maxed out dragons bane) his shield never lets me down + subs for childe (main dps) well for consistent vaporize ~
I really like Thoma and ended up wishing for C6 (along with 3 Hu Tao to get mine to C3) and 100% think he has really good utility BUT I feel like stacking shields are either bugged or poorly implemented currently. I've noticed several instances where it seems like you take damage despite the shield still being active, as if each "stacked" shield exists individually and can have it's full durability depleted and allow the overflow damage through to the character even if another shield "stack" should exist on top to prevent that. It's not particularly noticeable in most instances but on Floor 12 of the Abyss when using Thoma to shield Hu Tao at low HP it's extremely noticeable when you will just straight up die while still seeing a shield active on your character as they turn to dust. I also constantly forget that activating his burst does not immediately give you a shield and you need to either have a shield already from his E skill or do a normal attack to create one. Makes it somewhat awkward to quick swap through multiple bursts in a row only to get smacked by an enemy when you think you have a shield but do not. I also feel like it's worth mentioning that while Thoma 100% has energy recharge concerns/problems, even at C4+, I'd definitely argue that his best team pairing is with Hu Tao at which point you ARE generally generating a lot of pyro energy that he can take advantage of while killing enemies with Hu Tao. That said if you have no way to funnel energy to him you can put yourself in an awkward spot if you're fighting few high HP enemies where Hu Tao isn't generating as much energy. If you fail to refund Thoma's burst by the time your shield runs out you can get in trouble trying to get it available again. In terms of helping his ER and shield uptime if not running an ER% weapon it's also VERY helpful if you can run a Favonius weapon on another character on the team. When paired with Hu Tao you're always wanting to run Xingqiu anyway and if you can run 200+ ER% (particularly with the Emblem set) you can get away with using a Favonius sword rather than Sacrificial. This is a pretty huge help for Thoma without needing to directly run an ER% weapon on him and particularly at higher refines allows Xingqiu to generate a lot of energy that you can funnel to another teammate if need be, assuming you already want to build him with good crit stats for his burst damage making it very easy to trigger the Favonius passive.
I kinda wish Mihoyo made Thoma more flexible. The only pyro character I really use is Bennett :/ I understand why they made him this way it’s just hard when you love his character but don’t have a team to fit him 😭
Atm I'm using the catch 4 p emblem with HP sands an pyro goblet with 63crit & 92critDMG with a ER of 169.6. feels pretty decent for all areas an good uptime but it is true he does require a few dodges since his shield ain't zhongli but really good that you can do reaction an get that double pyro buff

He will be played in a top tier team because he will make the spot in Hu taos strongest team, Hu tao, Xingqiu, Thoma + Anemo. People were already using Amber in that slot and Thoma combines her + Zhongli into one especially at C6. Amber + Anemo was already more dmg people just didn't play it because of Zhonglis safety, now you get the best of both worlds.
At the moment I’m using Thoma as a shielder with Xinyan because she has the Summer Night’s set, but I’ve just got Raiden Shogun’s weapon when I was pulling for Ayato’s, so I’m going to switch his build to a DPS. I like him more on field anyway.
somewhat more f2p thoma comp(somewhat of a meme): Dps beidou,electro MC,thoma and sayu,the idea of the team is almost the same as the yoimiya team,but by running dps beidou it becomes cheaper and you can do a meme build with retracing bolide,you can also do dps fishel intead of electro MC for more energy for beidou but you do lose on that option on a bit of energy recharge for thoma/sayu,but yeah all in all this team won't be breaking record nunbers but it IS a lot more viable and it's also fun

I love that when Mihoyo released what is essentially NerfedPyroXinqiu these so called "meta content creators" instead of using him like Xinqiu to make various fun reaction teams, they just glued him as a shilder to One (1) rare character with the SAME element. It's like if they used original Xinqiu for his damage reduction. And speaking of the Water Shota he's here too, so is Kazuha, and if there were space they'd throw in Benny boy too. Because why think then instead you can apply the same stock reply to anything. Oh and God forbid you don't have Hutao, because in their creative bankruptcy they couldn't think of any other team combination for PyroXinqiu and as an excuse used the word "viable". There's no such thing as "viable" in this game - you can clear abyss with Barbara. There's only how much time (or money if you're a whale) you're willing to spend on grinding for a particular set of characters that you like. Personally I would've thought people would jump on a Ayaka's melt housekeeper bandwagon (I mean they were obviously designed and written together in mind) but I guess that's just too cerebral for those people. Let's be lazy and talk about old hotness rerun.
he sucks as a pyro xinqiu. he cant even do that role well cuz of ICD. he steals reactions. you need a lot of effort to get a passable shield, and the reason these tubers all say the same thing is because that’s the only thing he can do decently. even the ayaka melt is pointless with this ICD. just get xiangling.
Unfortunately, he's basically just a stock shielder, if thats ever a bad thing that is. His damage department is definitely barred. And besides he isn't a bad character, just not exceptional to replace staple teams. He is fun to use nonetheless.

Thoma when properly built is a good shielder, but in terms of damage I'll just stick to my Emblem Xinyan with a burst that has 100% crit rate (constellation) That's a nice solid 40K hit without food or team buffs or 100k with Bennett and Sara
For the overload team: You do mention Raiden, it's also worth noting that Raiden's skill gives a coordinated attack, like a better version of C6 Fischl. This works at range meaning she goes well with Yoimiya.
@@risalatuszainiah2556 its duration is already longer than the cooldown and the shield with the highest scaling in the game. Maybe it'd be good for DPS Zhongli since his shield is weaker. If you mean his stele (the pillar thing), you couldn't, because if you just tap the skill, the CD is very short and bringing another stele erases the last one without his C1.

One thing that I don't like that they are doing recently is that they are making characters more and more team dependent. The early characters like Beidou, fischl, Bennett, Xingqui, Sucrose, Xiangling, you could literally just throw on anyteam that you liked. The more we get into the game the more it seems like they are trying to force certain characters together and it sucks because one of the things I liked about the game was I could just pick 4 characters I really liked and make a team.
leme who is in ar57 cleared 36* abys many times got ten 5★s with 400 pulls, but not a single favonius lance . gg. catch is used by raiden, xiangling using spine, xiao using black cliff, hutao d. bane, rosaria starglitter. aggh, and i dont have any billet to craft a starglitter, all i have is catylist billet like 10, what do i do. help
He's my Zhongli replacement for Azhdaha boss fight. He's pretty good on shielding and not surprisingly his shield is so tanky with full stack as it's easy to stack with Raiden burst normal attack.
My I ask about your opinion ? I use electro comp with Eula as main DPS Electro Traveler (it supposed to be Raiden but i lose 50:50) : battery with Noblesse Thoma : Emblem supporr Beido : Tank support, thundering fury for reset ele skill (i like the counter soo much) Eula : Main Dps So. The goal : active 3 burst (traveler, thoma, beido), and change to Eula. She hit while all burst proc-ing left and right. Problem : my thoma shield is miniscule hahahahaha, my ER problem isn't that apparent, coz Traveler cover it quite well. My Eula ended up still taking a lot of hit, i dont have Zhong Li.... Also I thought those 3 bursts run down enemy like crazy, but it ended up yo be just okay hahahah
I struggle to figure why people don't use the Inazuma crafted polearm on Thoma, it literally generates a mountain of energy on him. Try it out, you'll see what I mean.
Kitain Cross Spear have EM stats so not a lot would want that Presumably R1 weapon, Favonious Lance only produced 6 particle, which is 3 less than Kitain (r1) but Kitain required losing 3 energy in the first place, however Lance have ER stats so it make up for giving less Particle. I guess the idea of "losing" energy and gain back some is not as appealing as give out for free. Also, you would want to use Burst after your E Skill hit to have that shield stack right away so you would want to have Burst on after E hit.
Thanks for pointing out that 4pc Millelith set bonus doesn't work on him. I was wondering why nobody recommends it, because it actually looked as a good option for Thoma.

Ik this is kinda late but hes not bad in an attack based geo team (i.e. a ningguang team). I run him with ning, albedo, and bennet and he works pretty well as a flex slot there and to provide a shield to help with geo resonance and to keep ning from…yknow, dying

hey random question, dont know if anyone is going to read this but eh, maybe I'm making a team with Hu tao, xingqiu, diona and a forth, and i'm tossing up between kaeya and thoma, both kaeya and thoma are level 20 currently so i'd have to put resources into both but what do you think is better? Kaeya seems good with his ult letting hu Tao melt, but thoma does give shielding and pyro res, (i know i already have diona on my team for shielding and decreased stamina consumption but like pyro shield is useful to not getting burned by the stupid grass :v)
You have to be careful with kaeya’s ult, because he could be the one who triggers melt instead of hutao. If you want to have double cryo, use rosaria if you have her. But if you want to min-max more, replace thoma with diona because xinggqiu’s rainsword heals enough for hutao. So you can have an anemo unit in your team.
I'm pretty sad that it took me 95 pulls to get Sara on Baal's banner. I'd love to pull for Sayu and get Thoma and hopefully some Diona constellations, but I'm 70 into pity. If I knew that I was going to "lose" the 50-50, I'd do it. But as it is, I don't want to waste those 70 wishes as I wait for a character that I really want (Zhongli... it is always Zhongli). I have about 120 wishes saved up. Once I get past 180 I'll be free to wish on whatever again (Kazuha rerun?!). I'm still salty at them for rerunning the archons almost back to back. Losing pity 2x happens, but it shouldn't have mattered if they spaced it out a bit. If they are going to be somewhat dishonest and completely uncommunicative, they'll get no money from me. I don't give money to shady corporations who don't communicate.
He's gonna be my new shield fav... Love noelle's shield but to reduce the shield cd she needs to atk. Not practical off field. I have no diona, no sac bow r5.. I had high EM ningguang for boss fights instead. He's a decent addition 🥳

My opinion for Thoma is Mhy tryin to make a character that can actually "change" Bennett but with a shield version. Basically, Diona with no heal + pyro.

That will depend on how dendro works I think, and if there's ever a set that buffs overload, right now not quite that good

I used thoma along with Childe and Benny. Childe can be very squishy, especially in inazuma (enemies, random lightning strike, and any other thing that randomly reduces my HP without me noticing it).
I inject him with 200% ER and the rest to his HP, and he's amazing! He can keep my childe alive and stay at >70% HP easily to get benny's buff! And yes, I don't have zhong li.

Thank you for the video! Currently playing him with Hu Tao, Kazuha, XQ team and been enjoying it so far. I think it might be better than the double geo (ZL/Albedo) I was running before, but it also might be just artifacts difference or smth.
I put instructor set on Albedo and tenacity on Zhongli, the damage is just the same. Still, it's easier to execute The Hu tao Thoma team.
For Hu Tao team Xingqiu is always a must
Hu Tao, Xingqiu, Albedo Zhongli or Hu Tao Xing Kazuha Thoma are all very good team
I would recommended the team with Zhongli in Abbyss if Zhongli is free, if not then Thoma is a great substitute, mimic closely what Zhongli can do.

The OG’s were more general purpose supports (think bennet, fishcl, xingqiu, etc.) while these new supports are more niche and for the debut of new 5*’s (think diona for freeze with childe, sara for electro buff on raiden, thoma for hutao shielder and pyro application to swirl).

@@Gimothi just saying but diona was definitely not made for childe. They're a pretty bad pair and diona is much better utilised in a pyro comp or Morgana with mona/xingqui as the hydro applier .
Something worth mentioning is that if you manage to refine your Kitain Cross Spear to R5 (which can be ridiculously easy depending on your luck), it’s essentially a passive C4 effect of refunding energy.

Petition for Mihoyo to fucking add the Sacrificial Spear right now, the only weapon that is missing on the Sacrificial set, and it would be the perfect weapon for Thoma, not only it would generate double the particles, but it would stack two shields with it's passive
Sac Spear will never happen because some 5* constellations are literally that: an additional cast of E. (Xiao, etc) They would be sued by people who spent money to get that additional cast if it becomes accessible for free.

And even if gave Xiao an additional E, it doesn't matter, Sacrificial Spear wouldn't fit him just because that passive, if the spear follow the Sacrificial set logic, then it would have Energy Recharge as sub stat, and it's useless for Xiao, it's better getting some in your artifacts, and using a better weapon than one with Energy Recharge, the additional E is for additional particles only, his main source of damage is his burst, using sacrificial spear will give him more particles, but will also reduce his burst damage, that is why it's useless
Thanks Brax for all your hard work. You always make sure to point out a couple of details that we did not think about. I am glad I have a good idea where my ER should be at now. I hope that my Baal can replace the Fiscl on that Yoimiya team and make that team comp work with Thoma. I like that he is less niche than Sara (and potentially Gorou). I hope Thoma will be able to synergize well with Ayato (if he comes out in the future) as well as future Dendro characters. I think Thoma might have some upside in the future but only the future will tell us that. Thanks again!

C1 Hu Tao (won both 50/50 as someone who always fails them) one SoH, finally R5 Sac Sword and a C5 Thoma. I still want to try for C6 on him just because this little buff it provides is even more min-max for Hu Tao.

I was thinking of doing a comp of Thoma, Diona, Xiangling, and Aloy, with Xiangling as main dps and the other three as supports. Honestly, you’re probably cringing if you are a meta player but I rarely do spiral abyss so that stuff doesn’t impact me much. Rather, I think it would be fun to play that way, and like the idea of the team. Though clearly I’m not completely unaffected as I’m kind of curious to see what others think.
Actually, that is kind of a decent team, Double shield with Diona as healer, Xiangling apply pyro everywhere and Aloy as reverse melt burst.
You can't really do melt with xiangling since she has no internal cooldown (ICD for short) at all with her ult. Even with Diona and Aloy combined her ult will instantly melt all the cyro and never melt again after that, it will be diona and aloy's reverse melt instead.
Don't worry I also build Xiangling as dps, and a hybrid build because I'm using 2 pieces of Bloodstainted and 2 pieces of Crimson

I really like Thoma and ended up wishing for C6 (along with 3 Hu Tao to get mine to C3) and 100% think he has really good utility BUT I feel like stacking shields are either bugged or poorly implemented currently.
I've noticed several instances where it seems like you take damage despite the shield still being active, as if each "stacked" shield exists individually and can have it's full durability depleted and allow the overflow damage through to the character even if another shield "stack" should exist on top to prevent that.
It's not particularly noticeable in most instances but on Floor 12 of the Abyss when using Thoma to shield Hu Tao at low HP it's extremely noticeable when you will just straight up die while still seeing a shield active on your character as they turn to dust.
I also constantly forget that activating his burst does not immediately give you a shield and you need to either have a shield already from his E skill or do a normal attack to create one. Makes it somewhat awkward to quick swap through multiple bursts in a row only to get smacked by an enemy when you think you have a shield but do not.
I also feel like it's worth mentioning that while Thoma 100% has energy recharge concerns/problems, even at C4+, I'd definitely argue that his best team pairing is with Hu Tao at which point you ARE generally generating a lot of pyro energy that he can take advantage of while killing enemies with Hu Tao. That said if you have no way to funnel energy to him you can put yourself in an awkward spot if you're fighting few high HP enemies where Hu Tao isn't generating as much energy. If you fail to refund Thoma's burst by the time your shield runs out you can get in trouble trying to get it available again.
In terms of helping his ER and shield uptime if not running an ER% weapon it's also VERY helpful if you can run a Favonius weapon on another character on the team. When paired with Hu Tao you're always wanting to run Xingqiu anyway and if you can run 200+ ER% (particularly with the Emblem set) you can get away with using a Favonius sword rather than Sacrificial. This is a pretty huge help for Thoma without needing to directly run an ER% weapon on him and particularly at higher refines allows Xingqiu to generate a lot of energy that you can funnel to another teammate if need be, assuming you already want to build him with good crit stats for his burst damage making it very easy to trigger the Favonius passive.

I kinda wish Mihoyo made Thoma more flexible. The only pyro character I really use is Bennett :/ I understand why they made him this way it’s just hard when you love his character but don’t have a team to fit him 😭

Atm I'm using the catch 4 p emblem with HP sands an pyro goblet with 63crit & 92critDMG with a ER of 169.6. feels pretty decent for all areas an good uptime but it is true he does require a few dodges since his shield ain't zhongli but really good that you can do reaction an get that double pyro buff

He will be played in a top tier team because he will make the spot in Hu taos strongest team, Hu tao, Xingqiu, Thoma + Anemo. People were already using Amber in that slot and Thoma combines her + Zhongli into one especially at C6. Amber + Anemo was already more dmg people just didn't play it because of Zhonglis safety, now you get the best of both worlds.
At the moment I’m using Thoma as a shielder with Xinyan because she has the Summer Night’s set, but I’ve just got Raiden Shogun’s weapon when I was pulling for Ayato’s, so I’m going to switch his build to a DPS. I like him more on field anyway.

Dps beidou,electro MC,thoma and sayu,the idea of the team is almost the same as the yoimiya team,but by running dps beidou it becomes cheaper and you can do a meme build with retracing bolide,you can also do dps fishel intead of electro MC for more energy for beidou but you do lose on that option on a bit of energy recharge for thoma/sayu,but yeah all in all this team won't be breaking record nunbers but it IS a lot more viable and it's also fun

I love that when Mihoyo released what is essentially NerfedPyroXinqiu these so called "meta content creators" instead of using him like Xinqiu to make various fun reaction teams, they just glued him as a shilder to One (1) rare character with the SAME element. It's like if they used original Xinqiu for his damage reduction. And speaking of the Water Shota he's here too, so is Kazuha, and if there were space they'd throw in Benny boy too. Because why think then instead you can apply the same stock reply to anything. Oh and God forbid you don't have Hutao, because in their creative bankruptcy they couldn't think of any other team combination for PyroXinqiu and as an excuse used the word "viable". There's no such thing as "viable" in this game - you can clear abyss with Barbara. There's only how much time (or money if you're a whale) you're willing to spend on grinding for a particular set of characters that you like.
Personally I would've thought people would jump on a Ayaka's melt housekeeper bandwagon (I mean they were obviously designed and written together in mind) but I guess that's just too cerebral for those people. Let's be lazy and talk about old hotness rerun.
he sucks as a pyro xinqiu. he cant even do that role well cuz of ICD. he steals reactions. you need a lot of effort to get a passable shield, and the reason these tubers all say the same thing is because that’s the only thing he can do decently. even the ayaka melt is pointless with this ICD. just get xiangling.
Unfortunately, he's basically just a stock shielder, if thats ever a bad thing that is. His damage department is definitely barred. And besides he isn't a bad character, just not exceptional to replace staple teams. He is fun to use nonetheless.

Thoma when properly built is a good shielder, but in terms of damage I'll just stick to my Emblem Xinyan with a burst that has 100% crit rate (constellation) That's a nice solid 40K hit without food or team buffs or 100k with Bennett and Sara
I use the team comp:Childe-Xiangling-Thoma-Jean and its really good
Do you have Bennett?? If you do, use him instead of Thoma and the dmg is even better
But if Thoma is there for being a shield only then that's fine
For the overload team: You do mention Raiden, it's also worth noting that Raiden's skill gives a coordinated attack, like a better version of C6 Fischl. This works at range meaning she goes well with Yoimiya.
Sacrificial Polearm would be so clutch for him though. Mihoyo, why you hate on our best boy?

@@risalatuszainiah2556 its duration is already longer than the cooldown and the shield with the highest scaling in the game. Maybe it'd be good for DPS Zhongli since his shield is weaker. If you mean his stele (the pillar thing), you couldn't, because if you just tap the skill, the CD is very short and bringing another stele erases the last one without his C1.

One thing that I don't like that they are doing recently is that they are making characters more and more team dependent. The early characters like Beidou, fischl, Bennett, Xingqui, Sucrose, Xiangling, you could literally just throw on anyteam that you liked. The more we get into the game the more it seems like they are trying to force certain characters together and it sucks because one of the things I liked about the game was I could just pick 4 characters I really liked and make a team.

He's my Zhongli replacement for Azhdaha boss fight. He's pretty good on shielding and not surprisingly his shield is so tanky with full stack as it's easy to stack with Raiden burst normal attack.

So. The goal : active 3 burst (traveler, thoma, beido), and change to Eula. She hit while all burst proc-ing left and right.
Problem : my thoma shield is miniscule hahahahaha, my ER problem isn't that apparent, coz Traveler cover it quite well. My Eula ended up still taking a lot of hit, i dont have Zhong Li.... Also I thought those 3 bursts run down enemy like crazy, but it ended up yo be just okay hahahah
I struggle to figure why people don't use the Inazuma crafted polearm on Thoma, it literally generates a mountain of energy on him. Try it out, you'll see what I mean.
Kitain Cross Spear have EM stats so not a lot would want that
Presumably R1 weapon, Favonious Lance only produced 6 particle, which is 3 less than Kitain (r1) but Kitain required losing 3 energy in the first place, however Lance have ER stats so it make up for giving less Particle. I guess the idea of "losing" energy and gain back some is not as appealing as give out for free.
Also, you would want to use Burst after your E Skill hit to have that shield stack right away so you would want to have Burst on after E hit.
Thanks for pointing out that 4pc Millelith set bonus doesn't work on him. I was wondering why nobody recommends it, because it actually looked as a good option for Thoma.

Ik this is kinda late but hes not bad in an attack based geo team (i.e. a ningguang team). I run him with ning, albedo, and bennet and he works pretty well as a flex slot there and to provide a shield to help with geo resonance and to keep ning from…yknow, dying

I'm making a team with Hu tao, xingqiu, diona and a forth, and i'm tossing up between kaeya and thoma, both kaeya and thoma are level 20 currently so i'd have to put resources into both but what do you think is better? Kaeya seems good with his ult letting hu Tao melt, but thoma does give shielding and pyro res, (i know i already have diona on my team for shielding and decreased stamina consumption but like pyro shield is useful to not getting burned by the stupid grass :v)
You have to be careful with kaeya’s ult, because he could be the one who triggers melt instead of hutao. If you want to have double cryo, use rosaria if you have her. But if you want to min-max more, replace thoma with diona because xinggqiu’s rainsword heals enough for hutao. So you can have an anemo unit in your team.
I'm pretty sad that it took me 95 pulls to get Sara on Baal's banner. I'd love to pull for Sayu and get Thoma and hopefully some Diona constellations, but I'm 70 into pity. If I knew that I was going to "lose" the 50-50, I'd do it. But as it is, I don't want to waste those 70 wishes as I wait for a character that I really want (Zhongli... it is always Zhongli). I have about 120 wishes saved up. Once I get past 180 I'll be free to wish on whatever again (Kazuha rerun?!). I'm still salty at them for rerunning the archons almost back to back. Losing pity 2x happens, but it shouldn't have mattered if they spaced it out a bit. If they are going to be somewhat dishonest and completely uncommunicative, they'll get no money from me. I don't give money to shady corporations who don't communicate.
