@@pipitameruje I'm only 2b/2c and sometimes I get some 3A curls. The only brush I own and use is a denman brush. I don't straighten my hair anymore but it would stay straight until wash day.
I have naturally curly hair, but I still use method 3 because I like vintage styles- it actually does give me looser curls than my natural curl pattern, but no way would my natural curl pattern brush together the way it does after a wet set! It would be amazing if it did!
With the robe belt method, for those like me, with thicker, longer hair, doing two strands per side works even better. One strand over, one under. The curls are tighter and there are more of them.

Anastasia Filippova im pretty sure u can seal the ends with a few pins before heading to bed ? i personally use clips to hold in the buns instead of using hair ties tho
I use socks since I have rather thick hair. Wet, grab a section and wrap the end of it around the sock as if you were using a curler as in the last option in video. Roll up as normal. Tie it in a knot. Sleep and then take out. It also has the advantage of being able to make the curls as tight or loose as you want or as high as you want. You can do it really loose and brush it out well to make waves. You can braid it and roll the braids if you want really small curls.
That's such a smart way to tie the bath robe thing! Been using that method as it works best on my hair, but never found a way to make it comfortable enough to sleep in, but I'm definitively trying out your way next time!
Yes!! I hate using heat on my hair, and I have been using overnight curlers for years, but my hair is so short now! I'm looking for an option that makes looser waves so I don't look like i am living in the 1920s! lol
I've had a chin length bob for the past 3 years and the easiest way I found to curl it is to take your damp hair into sections a little bit bigger than you would put in a roller and just twist it into a bun, secure it with an elastic and let it air dry. You can make your sections however big you want but mine work best with about 1.5 inch sections. It's basically a miniature version of an over night bun all around your head.
I came for the curls and learnt how to use a doughnut. 😂 Mind blown! I tought you'd put them around your ponytail like a thick hair tie and then just lay your ponytail around it and arrange it. Always wondered how people kept the doughnut hidden so well. 😂 :O
I've tried all of these over the last decade. Let me tell you, if you have thick and long hair, none of the one without actual rollers are going to work on you unless maybe you keep them on for 48 hours at least.
I have long thick hair too and another method I’ve tried that works pretty well (not featured in this video) is rag curls, I just just rolled up tissues and separate my hair into 8 sections and roll and tie them up. Varying results, sometimes really good ringlet curls and other times just a princessy wave/curl at the ends of the hair but way quicker and easier, and can be done with last minute supplies
@@indiand6460 rag curls are definitely the way to go! I literally just did them last night and have pretty thick hair that reaches my hip bone. I remember finding your sock method video years ago when I was 12! It worked perfectly! My hair is a bit too short for it to hold the sock now (and too smooth haha it just slides off) so I'll make sure to try the other options you recommend.
I recently tried the bathrobe curls, and it's definatly the most comfortable way I've ever curled my hair overnight. It also produced the most consistent heatless curls.
I live somewhere quite arid and was able to try the hair donut style in a few hours. My hair is thin and fragile from medication and it worked beautifully! I had body and soft curls that I loved! Thank you for sharing this. I'll definitely be using it again! ❤
Yes, heat styling causes damage and breakage on the length of the hair (particularly the outer layer of the hair) BUT... tight hairstyles (like high ponytails or rollers) worn for a long time (like overnight) can cause thinning of the hair if repeated regularly (not breakage, actual hair loss, at the roots) and long period humidity in the hair can cause damage of the inner layer of the hair (resulting also in more breakage if repeated). So I wouldn't say that overnight wet set are an amazing alternative for heat styling, particularly comparing with the use of a moderately hot blow dryer. Once from time to time is alright but not as a go-to method for someone concern about thinning hair. The same goes for not washing the hair. Yes it can prevent breakage because of humidity and combing but your chance of thinning hair due to oxidative stress or dermatitis (dandruff) at the roots goes up. Everything is about balance. The scalp is as important if not more than the ends.
Can you provide a link about hair damage from humidity? I can only find info on wet hair being more fragile so it's especially important to be gentle but that's all I could find.
@@lisamo1013 Of course. The link is below. Note that there has been very few studies about that because I don't think researchers expected that result so it still might be false. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3229938/

I love this. I don't want to destory my hair and also heat curls are on my head for like 2 hours and then look gross, when overnight even three days later i have cute waves. For first one I have too long hair, i need to try second one!
I know I'm late to the party but I just discovered this channel and looooove the videos. Just wanted to leave a review of my experience with the sock bun. I've got medium/thick hair with medium/high density and my hair type is 2a/b. My wave pattern gets ruined at night so I've been on the hunt for an overnight wave/curl styling method to help keep things looking nice in between washes. Had high hopes for the sock bun, but unfortunately you need to have fine/thin hair for this method to work. I gave it two tries two nights in a row and the first time, I guess my hair wasn't wet enough. Turned into a frizzy tangly mess. The second time I used more water aaaaannnddd it turned into a damp frizzy tangly mess. I did use one of Loepsie's bun tutorials though to salvage my hair those two days and it ended up looking great! So for me and for others with a hair type like mine, skip the sock bun for overnight curls. Love this channel though! Great content and so many fun things to try out.
I first came across your channel through the original sock bun video and I'm glad to see you still use it! I've also been a HUGE fan of the bathrobe method, but I don't like to use my bathrobe tie--I use bandannas that I roll up

your sock bun curls video is how i found your channel about 9-10 years ago! unfortunately i couldn't get it to work for me because my hair was too long and thick, but now it's shorter so i may have to try again
You're an inspirations for me. I feared that if I cut bangs they wouldn't suit me. But after watching your videos I mustered up the courage to cut them and they look super cute! It brought a very positive change and I've started loving myself. I had some self love issues in the past.
With the second method. I've seen anothet tutorial where you wrap from both sides like french braiding. It gives a more realistic curl because you have them in both directions 🤗 I'm also going to try it with two silk robe ties and splitting the hair in two to try and get the back a bit curlier and make it less frizzy.
The bathrobe belt is the best for my fine wavy hair. The curls last for days. It’s also most comfortable for sleeping out of all the overnight methods I’ve tried. I use a satin sleep bonnet to keep it in place while I sleep (also cuts down on frizz).
Great video! I use the ponytail on top of head with hair mehtod wrapped around a bendy stick roller, an adaptation from your briliant sock curls. Gorgeous curls in the morning and great volume which I really need with my thin hair. I used to use braids and just got electric shock frizz.
Hi Lucy! I love all three techniques and results that you have shown. I must say, when you did the second one (the head band curls) I thought that looked so chic as is was. It actually looked like a hair style with the head band in it.

My natural hair is a thick wavy frizz but two plaits/braids make it wave beautifully. Two french plaits are great for tighter waves too. Not sure how it would hold up on fine hair but I recommend it if your hair needs taming 👍
@@frizzbat7233 Have you tried treating your hair as if was curly? Because my hair was like that back when I brushed it everyday and though of it as a tiny beast with a mind of its own, and then I tried curly hair routines and realized that it's not a beast, it just has curls
THANK YOU! I've tried so many methods for overnight curls/waves and nothing has worked so far. But finally: the second method worked for me. It was super easy & quick, very comfortable to sleep in and looked gorgeous the next morning!
The second method was my golden grail of heatless curls when i had long hair and it lasted me for days, so long that people thought it was naturally curly
I wrap my hair around my scrunchie in a different way. I wrap the strand around my scrunchie rather than roll it up. It ends up looking like a cute bun still . If I want more curls I do 2 space buns instead.
I've been looking for ideas to have my long hair up during night, I have thin Scandinavian hair that snaps so easily, I'm definitely going to try that ribbon/scarf updo so clever and cute! Much love! 💖
I curled my hair the other day with scrunchies. It is hard to explain how I did it with out a visual but the curls came out nice and was comfortable to sleep in.
@@marissagiberson3140 not really. I flattened them and rolled them like a regular curler. I then pulled the end of the scrunchie through the other end and made like a bun after. I guess not too hard to explain except for that last bit. It was like a mix of cloth and roller curls.
Rachel Frumkin Oh okay, so like rag curls/sock curls! I tried sock curls last night, but my hair didn’t fully dry overnight so they didn’t last. I might try your way tonight!
I usually twist my damp hair around an elastic headband. It's comfortable to sleep on but it doesnt usually give me defined curls. I'm gonna try the bathrobe trick!
If you ever buy a sheet set, a lot of them come in a cloth sack that matches the sheets. A lot of them are the perfect size to put on your head and cover an overnight hairstyle.
I do something like the bathrobe tie but you braid bandanas in your hair and then tie the ends and so far they are the only thing I found curls my hair nicely. You can use less bandanas for less of a curl or use more for more of a curl. I hope it may help anyone. And then you just undo them and brush them out in the morning. I use oil to smooth them a bit but it's a style that doesn't make my frizzy hair worse.
The version I've tried (and gotten mixed results) is a basically using a "rag" as a roller. It creates very tight curls when used in small sections. It's almost a mix of rag and pin curls since it goes all the way to the scalp, but the rag ties around the roll to hold instead of a pin. It doesn't look comfortable, but it isn't bad to sleep in.
An alternative to the sock that I find easier to roll & unroll is a hair donut cut so it becomes a sausage, then sewn a ribbon on each end. Roll hair around from tips to base of ponytail, then tie the ribbons together. It kind of looks a bit vintage with the ribbon 😉
If you use one of those thick Asian skincare headbands to do the “robe tie” curls it’s a bit easier because you don’t have to tie anything. I do want to try that silk covered foam bendy thing though because I feel like anything silk is more gentle and I already love my silk pillowcases.
Hi , After watching your video on the fake bangs on Amazon, I decided to write to the store and ask them why they were using your image. They have replied to me & subsequently removed the photo. This is on Amazon UK, but hopefully it will also be the same worldwide. Best wishes from Kit.
Thank you so much, Lucy! I'll definately use all of them. I have one question though, I have a high porosity hair, do you think humidity would affect those curls?
Really enjoyed this video. Thank you and will look up a few more of your tutorials. What's your advice for an asian with thick and straight hair so it sets better?
When you have hair down to your butt and just can't...sometimes it's curly sometimes its not so curly. It does what it wants and I have accepted that haha
When you said "one of my first videos" I so knew the sock was going to appear lol My biggest issue with heatless curls is that my hair gets quite frizzy with them. Might have to give them another try now though
Since the first two don't give much curl at the back I wonder about using some pink curlers down the back and then wrapping the sides around a robe belt (?)
The only problem with the foam rollers is that they’re getting harder for me to do as my hair is getting longer. Does anyone have any ideas? Do the pillow rollers work better for longer hair?
I use bendy rollers, they are a bit more uncomfortable since they have no bounce like the sponge ones do. But it is a DRAMATIC difference time wise. A full set with sponge rollers takes me about 30-40 minutes. Bendy rollers, maybe 10-15 minutes. You can fit a lot more hair on the roller so it goes faster, but you might want to set the hair earlier at night to give it more time to dry. My hair is almost waist length.
The robe tie set is a cute hairstyle on its own.

I love your picture, looks exactly like my shi tzu dog when he was a baby!
I haven't found a way that is actually comfortable for me to sleep on yet but the bathrobe tie looks promising!

The bathrobe tie look is so cute but I personally do it with a silk neck scarf as it's gentler with my hair.
Much love! 💖
Dear God the bathrobe method is a godsend thing, I will implement it from now on. Thank you!
I wish I’d known about these techniques when i still did show choir😭 this video is so helpful💖
Ooo the sock donut looks promising! I sleep with it in a bun already :)
I curled my hair the other day with scrunchies. It is hard to explain how I did it with out a visual but the curls came out nice and was comfortable to sleep in.
Was is kind of like the sock bun method where you wrap the hair around the scrunchie?
Oh my. I need this video! Thanks so much!
I’ve been waiting for someone to make a video exactly like this! Thank you!
If you ever buy a sheet set, a lot of them come in a cloth sack that matches the sheets. A lot of them are the perfect size to put on your head and cover an overnight hairstyle.
Very nice. Well done. I love all methods.👍
Oh my u have really thin hair. Good for u, it's really hard to do these overnight curling methods with a shit ton of thick hair
I like all of them but my favorite is the bathrobe one😁😍
I loooove this!! This is gonna be helping me sooo much! Thank you🤗
Such a great idea!!
Thanks for the tips! I have fine hair also, and prefer to not use heat.
Cant believe i’ve been watching u for a decade now!
I dont like the heat from hair dryer so I rarely style my hair, but the bathrob tie method seems very easy & fancy👍
If you use one of those thick Asian skincare headbands to do the “robe tie” curls it’s a bit easier because you don’t have to tie anything. I do want to try that silk covered foam bendy thing though because I feel like anything silk is more gentle and I already love my silk pillowcases.
Useful,thanks!
You are my favorite RUclipsr 😍❤️❤️
Yay same here, morning person!!! 🌞🌞🌞
Genius tips! Thank you!
Can you do a video using a “wiglet/hairpiece” as seen mostly in the 60s I believe!? Love your videos!
Hi , After watching your video on the fake bangs on Amazon, I decided to write to the store and ask them why they were using your image. They have replied to me & subsequently removed the photo. This is on Amazon UK, but hopefully it will also be the same worldwide. Best wishes from Kit.
I will have to try this out, they turned out good and so pretty to😁😍
Oh my god so close to a million subs! You so deserve it darling!
I just discovered your channel and I love your content.
Yay thank you very good 😘😘😘
wow that was useful and succinct!
Thank you so much, Lucy! I'll definately use all of them. I have one question though, I have a high porosity hair, do you think humidity would affect those curls?
the last one is really good on you! :D
Really enjoyed this video. Thank you and will look up a few more of your tutorials. What's your advice for an asian with thick and straight hair so it sets better?
Omg thank you for this 😍😍😍
love your cute hairstyle!!
It's fab .. it's been long since u did a hairstyle video... ❤
When you have hair down to your butt and just can't...sometimes it's curly sometimes its not so curly. It does what it wants and I have accepted that haha
When you said "one of my first videos" I so knew the sock was going to appear lol
My biggest issue with heatless curls is that my hair gets quite frizzy with them. Might have to give them another try now though
Use Lottabody setting lotion before setting, and then Suavecita pomade while styling in the morning!
In my case I feel my hair loses all the natural oils and looks dry and frizzy 🙄
@@theinvisibleme4104 oil it.
You remind me a little of a young Isabella Rosalini. I mean this in the best possible way as I think she was such a beauty.
I can safely say the second method works really well and I could sleep comfortably!
You taught me how to do a sock donut years ago!
I use the band curls a lot.
Your bangs are great.
Since the first two don't give much curl at the back I wonder about using some pink curlers down the back and then wrapping the sides around a robe belt (?)
The cleaning bottle from action :D
Awesome video
No idea
Yay new video!! 🙌🏻 I loved it ^^" 🧡🧡🧡🌈🌈🌈🌼🌼🌼
Can you make hairstyle like Rosie Huntington in met gala 2019
