The Legend of Legacy[a] is a turn-based role-playing video game for the Nintendo 3DS handheld video game console, developed by Cattle Call. The game was first published for Japan by FuRyu in January 2015, then localized by Atlus USA to be published by Atlus USA for North America in October and by NIS America for Europe and Australia in February 2016. A remaster is being released in 2024 for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Windows. The story takes place on the legendary lost continent of Avalon, where eight adventurers explore and fight to uncover its mysteries.
The production of The Legend of Legacy began in 2013; multiple industry and genre veterans were joined the development staff, including director Masataka Matsuura, designer Kyoji Koizumi, promotional artist Tomomi Kobayashi, writer Masato Kato, and composer Masashi Hamauzu. The game was chosen for localization by Atlus USA due to its positive impression on staff and their previous relationship with FuRyu. Upon release, the game received mixed reviews. The core developers used ideas from the concept stages of The Legend of Legacy to develop The Alliance Alive.

I really appreciate your honest review. I can understand a lot of the failings of the game in design.

It’s so crazy to me that this game got a remaster. It was not only ignored but heavily criticized back when it was released.

Oh yes I fully agree. This game feels like a game that was just made for ... "making a game'"s sake. And that's not a good thing - I felt the exact problem(s) you citizise. In some ways the game " A Silent Hope " has the same issue with its characters, but at least that game is a fun action RPG so you are busy fiddling with skill equips , dodging, attacking etc. In the Legend of Legacy.... there's just not much going on at the end of the day.
The Alliance improved on some of those issues to some degree, but I couldn't beat one of the later bosses, sadly.
    Cool video, keep it up!

If you're like me and you play nothing but JRPGS for the most part, and want something where you can just dive into once in awhile purely for the combat/adventure, this game scratches that itch. It reminds me a lot of the original Saga trilogy, known as Final Fantasy Legend 1-3 here in the US. If you want a game from the same team with more of a story focus and many of the same/similar growth mechanics in this game, I think Alliance Alive is a big improvement. Nice review. Hopefully they keep sending you codes, but if not you kept your integrity!

Thanks for the great review! I’d been curious about this bc I’d never played it and love the popup book art with the chibi characters, but that map looks so frustrating and tedious I’m going to have to pass….

Looks like this will be a deep sale buy.
