I understand you. I didn’t play 200 hours like you, more like 60/70 but I’ve explored a big part of the world and did many side quests and yes, even if some parts were super annoying, it was quite remarkable and man, this is a huge game. For the content but also emotionally speaking. Some stuff blew my mind like this on stage mini game at the gold saucer. Just… wow.

I just wish there was less filler. And that the story missions cutscenes were shorter.
Like if you do nothing but play the story, you'll end up just sitting there watching it like a movie for hours.
You'll watch like half an hour of cutscenes with 2 to 5 minutes of walking thrown in-between the prior and next scenes. Maybe get a fight or boss fight at the end of it all. And that's when you finally get to play.
Compared to the sidequests where its like 3 minute scene, then an hour of gameplay.
But the side quests are soooo dull that it doesn't make them worth it.
They had no reason to make this into a trilogy. And it hurts the pacing for it!

    • @makasete30
      @makasete30 2 месяца назад +2

Yeah, there is so much heart put in this game and they put so much in it which they didn't need to. It's rare to see a game on this scale these days.
The side quests are mostly optional and I was impressed that they always have something valuable as a reward, and they often flesh out the characters. Some of those side quests are so good and I consider essential as they are so unique and enjoyable. After the blandness of 16’s side quests where I felt they were not even trying, the side quests on rebirth as so amazing. Like, there is always something different to do you can tell it’s not just filler, as someone had to develop the new game mechanics.
I also feel the cutscenes are handled well and don't overstay their welcome by being too long. Every facial expression is fully Animated too, even in minor cut scenes.
I think overall the game was really ambitious and no expense was spared. They tried to experiment and sometimes they failed, such as Cait Sith throwing boxes, or Gongaga region traversal, but they succeeded more often than not. And i respect that they took risks.
It's my game of 2024 and one of my all time favourites. I think as it gets released on more platforms it will only grow. Most love it and it fully deserves the 92 on metacritic.

@@Coreisus i agree on these points, yea. It wasn't that Rebirth just "did something different"--I think this is definitely an overly-reductive way to dismiss fair criticism for this behemoth game. Actually, the general vibe i get is that people like Rebirth a lot, shortcomings and all (but I might not be in the same gaming circles where the "shame so many ppl hate it" observation from the original commenter is a common thing)

      @Rihcterwilker 2 месяца назад

@@Coreisus part 2 is so massive that it required 2 discs, they definitely made the right choice in making it a 3 parts deal.
This is not only a financial decision, but one based on development time. You have 2 massive games to play and immerse yourself while waiting for the next part, there is a discussion going around about what'll happen next, theories, hype and engagement that last years, which is equal to free marketing in their eyes.
And the game having long cutscenes, i mean, they're close to the og sometimes, almost a 1:1 cutscene, but the difference was that you had to click a button to advance dialogue, so maybe it felt more "engaging" because of that.

Rebirth was an excellent game. BUT.
For me personally, a 33 year old man with a mortgage and a full time job. The game was bogged down with SO MANY SIDE QUESTS.
I hit a breaking point when i was 30 hours in at cosmo canyon and the game throws another bit mini game at you that you have to learn and master. Then you have to do it again on hard mode!
I found myaelf spening hours playing the god dang piano, racing chocobos. Battling in the combat simulator AND the gold saucer.
By the time i only made it a fraction the way through with all these minigames and side quest i literally forgot the story.
I really like 100%n games and i dodnt do that here.
That being said. All the minigames are actually really well done. Like REALLY well done. Along with the combat, voice acting and story.
Regardless of all my gripes i had a blast.

I get your criticism about how much there was to do in Rebirth. The way I look at it is a game company produced a massive, working game for $70. No DLC package, no season pass, just a complete game. To me, Square Enix knocked it out of the park. This was an absolutely incredible experience, that kept a smile on my face for the entire platinum experience. (well expect the final combat challenges, those were rage inducing)

This was a cool review. I personally didn’t have an issue with the amount of content in the game. We asked for FF7 and they gave us more than enough. The only thing I recommend they do is add more story content and find another way to clear maps rather than the tower method. The tower method became very repetitive and redundant which slows down progress

Back in the day, for me, playing JRPG was really about the story and to be able to succeed in a game without being technically skilled. While watching some tutorials, I realized I wasn’t alone. Of course it sucks to redo everything over and over, at some point it was definitely overwhelming, specially the never ending Brutal and Legendary challenges, I needed 350 hours to get the Platinum. But I don’t regret a single second of it, what a masterpiece!

Was always the case with RPG's, you play bits you want to play and avoid what you choose. If everyone decided to do absolutely every quest in Skyrim (even though it's not a great comparison) the game would feel too long and repetitive for most. So people generally just do what they do and hit the end of the game, the problem people are having with Rebirth is that everything is listed. There's no way to miss content naturally, you always know it's there and it's all linked to a progression bar. If that didn't exist, side quests would be spontaneous, along with mini games. They'd never feel like "just another thing to get ticked off".
It's all about how things are presented.

Man... Other than my blatant use of the word Chore to describe elements of this game, I'm pretty aligned to what you said. Also aligned with your thoughts on FFXVI. I am also tired of too many system and games that are just too long. I want to have fun, enjoy aspects as they come, and miss it when it ends. With this one, they shot too far past the MVP and no matter how sells are, that will cost them. I also thought it was ridiculous to not pick up my FF7Remake save. That was a lot of time I thought would pay off.

You mentioned beginning to feel burnt out around gongaga, and I completely relate. I ended up only playing the game for 25 hours (mainlining the story and skipping through a lot of the side stuff), and at exactly that point in the game, I told myself that I was finished and I bought Animal Well hahah. I really loved the pt1 Remake, but I wasn't having any fun with this one. Information overload 🤯
Really impressive that you were able to finish Rebirth even while pushing through your feelings of burnout--I will always recommend stopping a game once it's not fun anymore, so finishing Rebirth probably isn't in the cards for me. I put 178 hours in the game and got the platinum. I did most of the side content stuff in my first play through. It was on dynamic and it took me 80 hours. The 88 awards for Johnny hotel and the chadley br battles and all that just getting ready for them and getting everything I needed took me another close to 100 hours. But I also went back and did everything on the play log too except for the assess enemies. I’m at 225/230 and one is the cavestalker. Apparently if you don’t assess it during the protorelic side quest in chapter 11 you can’t ever see and assess them again. Other than the last 5 assessing enemies the rest of the game is 100% done. But when I was done good god. I was done with it. The game was the epitome of a grind for certain things.

The combat system in Rebirth is nothing short of brilliant
Its especially fresh compared to how disappointing FFXVI was as an action game with those cooldowns and limited combo strings
You get the combo freedom of hack n slash games that FFXVI failed at recreating while also having proper rpg customizations for builds
It found the middle ground the fans were looking for years, its quality can compare to the likes of Kingdom Hearts 2 and Stranger of Paradise

No it doesn’t, the game is easy as hell even on harder difficulties, the gameplay is just unfun cause no amounts of skilled play gets your abilities back any faster, getting rewarded for waiting is not engaging at all
The cooldowns aren’t here to balance the abilities, the abilities are unbalanced so they could have an excuse to put cooldowns
Why would your most of your abilities either have superarmor or literally slow down time to they could land on the enemies, the devs are basically calling you slow cause they don’t trust you can land those mid battle with your own skill

I LOVE FF16, Stranger of Paradise, Remake, so much.. but what Rebirth has done with the story, it's world, cutscenes, exploration, and character chemistry is a huge leap for the franchise. It is just wonderful.

Great video. I'm at Chapter 9 and the algorithim is sending me a ton of FF 7 right now. I think I'm having the same experience you have. It took several Hours before I figured out how to master the combat and now that I have I look forward to it vs trying to rush the story.
Also I hate minigames but some of these are fun and I do enjoy Queens blood but I only play what hits the main path or if I happen to see someone I can play. If I have to backtrack to play it I won't.
I also think a lot of the characters and script are too goofy. It's haed to take seriously and I can't tell if they are tryi g to be satirical or are there too many cooks in thrbkitchen?
When you talked about burnout...I felt this with Final Fantasy 16, but I realized it felt stale cause I wanted to finish the game and move onto Spiderman. I wasn't just enjoying what I chose to. I ended up falling back in love cause I told myself, I do t have to do every side quest, just the ones that intrigues me. So. Approaching this one like each world is a Season of a tv show with fun side quests like on Frieren.

I played 16 pretty much non stop from the day i bought it, completed all side content besides the time trials, and even though some of it could have been better... I loved 16.
I enjoyed ff7r part 1 as well for the most part, I didn't like the "enemy aggros to selected player" system that forced you to play a certain way, but the story, side content and world design felt really good.
I preordered rebirth and loved the game...at first, it felt fresh I liked the combat, world design and the story. Somewhere around cosmo canyon, I felt like there was just too much open world content and there was next to no variation with it. I know its optional but I don't like not doing it as the game pushes you to do it and it feels like I'm missing out if I don't. I kinda think if there was 1 less open world zone it would have been perfect, but it just felt like they wanted to push that playtime as much as possible, overall it was fine, but I feel no desire to replay it

I've been fully disabled since 2018. I played the hell out of Rebirth. I mastered everything, and earned the platinum trophy.
As I sunk so much time into the game, slogging through tedious mini-games, conquering the ridiculously difficult challenges in Chadley's simulator, earning every single item and materia, and mastering every weapon, I couldn't help but think: who is this game for? I have the time to do all that, and I still thought it was far too much. When I was working full-time, there's no way that I could be able to play this game. How are people with careers, families, college, responsibilities, appointments, and everything involved with life finding the time to play it? I have the luxury of having more flexible time to play, and I still felt overwhelmed.
Length of a game does not qualify it as a satisfactory game. Half of the mini-games and side content needed to be dropped entirely, and the difficulty level on the absurdly cheap, rigged boss fights and simulator battles on hard mode needed to be reduced. Yeah, there's easy mode, but that's mindless and dull. I just don't get how people can platinum this game in so little time with all the responsibilities and commitments everyone has every day.
The balance of fun, length, and challenge are all out of whack here. It could have been the greatest game ever made, but I think it falls short. One moment, I'm having the time of my life. The next, I'm bored. The next moment, I'm far too frustrated. The next moment, I'm having fun again. The next moment, I resent how much time SE expects me to invest into it. For me, it was a schizophrenic experience of either having a blast, or wanting to set it down and never touch it again.
It could have been a 10/10 with better balancing and reduced content. Instead, it ends up a 7/10 for me. A good game, yes, but I don't think I'll ever play hard mode again. There's a good a chance that I never play the game again at all.
I went back to the Pixel Remasters. Maybe it's because I'm old and I've been playing Final Fantasy games since the SNES days, but I'm enjoying the classic games far more.

I work full time and I had time to play it. Was I able to blitz it in 3 days? No, but plenty of play time each night after work and it more than held my interest the entire time. Not to mention a large majority of the content is completely optional. Honestly loved virtually all the minigames, didn't find any all that difficult. Also loved the fact there was good challenges in the sim battles. Please don't reduce that at all! Enjoyed every minute, barely noticed my play time and easily over 160 hours at this point. I'm sure I'll do another playthrough whenever it releases on PC. Easy 9.5/10 for me.

I was completely overwhelmed by ff15 when it came out. Its 700 square miles! I just stopped playing after googling that. I'd never get anything else done in life trying to "complete" all those tedious fetch quests or whatever types of quests they probably copied and pasted everywhere.
Rebirth is 55 to 65 square miles apparently. Seems like they had the same opinion. Not sure how much content is in each game. I hate the word "content" when were really talking about art. Or digital sport. Stay blessed.

I think FFX handled the side content better. There is side content throughout the story, but 80% is either inaccessible or not worth starting until late in the game (when you receive the airship). I just think that was a better approach when it comes to pacing.

I think rebirth isnt as bad as people say it is, I think some of it is blind nostalgia because It feels like the originals come out at the right time and then any adaptation that comes after is met with immediate hostility and high expectations that sometimes feel impossible to meet,
As much as people praise the original FF7 I agree with people that it was weird that tifa didn't confront cloud about his neiblhiem lie but in rebirth tifa actually does call him out on that at the very beginning of the game which I think is better because I would think tifa of all people would say something to cloud and it made more sense this time because sephiroth manipulates cloud against tifa because he know she's the only person who truly keeps cloud on the right path, even Yuffie and Vincent are more important this time in rebirth but in the original they felt like afterthoughts, it feels like you cant criticize the original of something people consider nostalgic without getting negative comments but eh whatever 🤷

I wish people wouldn't bash Square for putting so much extra content into the game. We're giving them the message of "hey, don't work so hard, we don't want any extra content. We prefer to finish a game in 6 hours and have nothing else to do when its over". When a game takes you over 100 hours to complete, you should be happy that you got your moneys worth, instead of complaining. Your generation is trained on Tiktok, so if you don't hear a punch line within a minute, you get bored, and the sad reality is that my generation will have to suffer when studios decide to cater to you, and they will, because its much easier to make a shitty game

I just feel like complaining about the length of a game of this price and quality is kinda silly. The story and the cutscenes that deliver that story to me is the whole point of FF. Rebirth to me was overflowing with charm and love, and I just can’t fathom being irritated by the length, or even thinking to call it filler.
Like yeah none of this game needed to be here period, it is a video game lol

    • @Kean_Bean

You can Golden Path it. If you do so then you might have to play a single round of around 7 minigames that take around 5 min each (if your decent at them). Maybe 3 more, but they might just be game mechanics, not really minigames.
If you mainline it (no side quests), you are looking at around 40-50 hours with about 30-40 min spent on the minigames. (It hits you with most of them during the early mid section of the game).
(some of the side quests are mini game focused, maybe like 1/6th of them)
Hope this helps you decide if its the right game for you or not.

  • @cidfacetious3722
    @cidfacetious3722 2 месяца назад

I don’t think it’s overwhelming. I just think the way it structured with its open world completely destroys the pacing of the game. You do a cool story moment or mission then 10 to 15 hours of open world nonsense then the next story then 10 to 15 hours of nonsense, the first one was a much better game in my opinion just because of the flow and pacing of the game still good but I think if I replay it before the third installment, I’m gonna mainline the story I think that’ll be much better experience
