I like the idea of the cement moulds to refinish a very old brick patio in my back yard. It will be the perfect project while I'm out of work cuz of the carona virus. I'm excited to get started
Wish you'd showed how you created the pattern to fit small corners. btw...after years in construction, w/hubby.....I was clinching when I saw you using your stone cutting saw, rested on you leg, cutting stone. YIKES!
The way he was handling that grinder had me covering my face and peeking through my fingers like a kid watching a horror movie. That was such a dangerous way to use it. I have a set of these molds in a cobblestone/crazy paving pattern. I haven't used them yet but I'm thinking they'll turn out well for what I want to do (some paths). I think the pattern I have will be more forgiving when it comes to any shifting that may occur over time.
when you finish with the mold, just ensure all concrete is completely dry and make up a dry mix of sand and cement as a grout (and a cement dye if you want) so there is a nice contrast , sweep it in all the crack and the overnight dew will set it hard, and then you will see the result of your hard work will be perfect
@@Sta1rway2Kevin Hi Kevin I am so sorry for the late reply, I must have missed it somehow? Just make sure your formed concrete is fully cured, as in Bone dry, with the mix i mentioned, that too has to be bone dry , Literally sweep it over and as I said The overnight Dew is enough moisture to set your mix

Looks great! You answered a lot of questions we had, do you happen to have the footage of how made the pieces that were needed to be cut to fit? Also, did you use a quick setting mix? And how long did you leave it in the mold before pulling it up? Thanks for sharing .
Major realization - By doing it this incredibly inefficient way which the homeowner's are obviously willing to pay for you create 2 jobs and also create economy. You are brilliant sir. I'm not being sarcastic. You created yourself a cushy job where you can be your own boss and do squat while you supervise your worker. And you created that job for your worker by convincing the homeowner the patio they wanted was worth materials+mark-up and 35 hrs more labor than was required. You have a job and a company he has a job, the work being unnecessary is irrelevant. And the customer obviously has the extra money to spend, they are happy, got what you promised them. Brilliant. tx
THUMBS UP TO YOU - great job done - looks great - I wonder if I can do it too - but I do have a back injury that's been operated on in 1986 and it still gives me a lot of pain - but I like your little chair stool maybe there's hope for me yet!!! Thanks for sharing.
I did enjoy the video. Always remember SAFETY... You decided to cut the brick with one hand on the saw cutter and came a bit to close to your knee. That send cold chills down my back...
I see someone trying to do what he wants done. Does he look like a pro?does he work like a pro? Most definitely not, but what I do see is what Americans always say we do, put in the hard work to accomplish what we want, in the freedom of our own space. Great job man, just be careful and enjoy
My only deal with the square form is after your done you can always see the separation line where all the forms line up. Maybe if you stagger the form the joints wouldn't be so pronounced.
Hmmm, the result looked pretty poor. What did you use to grout the joints, a toothbrush? Maybe a sand and PVC glue mix would have produced a more contrasting finish.
Thank you for posting this video. I ordered two molds that are exactly like the ones you're using. Since my two German Shepherds basically destroyed my yard, laying concrete is my best solution. Plus, when we experience a lot of rain, my basement will leak a little. I intend on taking on the task myself. My only fear is creating a nice, properly pitched foundation. From what I read, the prep work is the hardest yet most important part. However, I'm expecting I will be making a mistake or two a,omg the way. I also plan on spiking down thick tarp onto of the soil prior to starting the project in hopes that it will also aid in keeping the water out of my basement and filling the joints with perm sand. Any suggestions would be extremely appreciated. I plan on starting mid May. First, I need to remove any grass patches for a clean start.
Not nearly as frigtening and dangerous as any handymans in my country tho...no safety at all at those rotating sawblade. In this video there still safety on the saw.
your end result is great. you did a fine job on your walkway and on your video. but boy, oh boy, the way you held that grinder over your knee had me holding my breathe for a few seconds...
At 5:01, you jump to the half patios being filled. How did you make those ones? There's got to be another way other than me cutting the template in half? How did you do those ones?
Where did you get the mold? Cost comparing the 16x16 pavers costs $3.74 a piece. Quickcrete 80 lb costs the same. Molds looks 2 or 3 bigger. Either way.. it takes work.
What did you put in the crevices? Can you put sand in the crevices? Are each of the blocks that are made by one plastic grid completely separate from the other blocks, or are they connected by cement below their crevices? Do you know of a cement stain that can be applied as drops to the screed in order to give the surface a mottled look, instead of a uniform color?
The idea of the prefabricated mold is great, but the '' between '' the stones should be bigger and should be put earth and grass, the finish would look perfect.
This is exactly how I want to make my 15 ft by 20 ft patio! However, with my research, it is suggested to put a layer of a sand base under to level it out. Are you having any issues with weeds or settling without a sand paver base? If not, I may not use one either.
I noticed he didn't show that. The video is sped up, so there is no way to tell. But I can help you with my own experience. If you look on the video @ 2:07 when he pulls the form, the edges are sloppy. He is pulling the form too soon in my opinion. When I did mine years ago it was with a kit. PathMaker or something. Came with a tumbler bucket with lid and O-ring to mix the concrete. Tried the tumbler once and never used it again. Wheelbarrow & shovel or hoe is only way to go with me. Anyway, I let my forms sit until the "shinyness" fades from the top after smoothing, then I pull (on a hot day, maybe as little as 5 mins after smoothing/floating top.). The Sakrete Maximizer (blue bag) is what I used. Stones are smaller, it is strong, mixes well and looks good.
@@rangel24852000 as long as all surface area is sealed should have weeds growing i would have used polymeric sand between joints and refill as needed. Generally once a year. As water mixes in it creates a hard seal like tile grout.

How many bags did you have to use for this project
One bag of quickcrete or cement does one and a half pavers worth
Would be nice to have a list of the supplies used. But, it does look nice before the final touches were made.
