I remember seeing this on tv during a summer airing that year. I was 12 and I just started staying up late when I didn’t have school; I feel so lucky that I was able to catch this performance. I had never heard music like this before. I was used to what my family listened to; just mostly rap and hip hop…R&B. This immediately hit my heads just right. I thank you for posting this as this is such a formative performance for me. It really shaped my music taste and I feel it was the beginning of a new era in my life. Pretty much an era that started how psycho I am about music.
Saw TL&RX back in '05 in a small (now defunct) club in Southside Birmingham, AL when I lived there and this is about how impressively tight they were then, too. Just amazing live.
Saw this when it first aired. Was never my favorite of the bands on Conan at the time, but still pretty cool and this video is what convinced me to buy an epiphone Sheraton a couple years later.
My cousin Drew playing the Telecaster in this performance.
Maturity is accepting that you will never be as cool as Ted Leo
This checks out. Even when I was 20 I suspected it was true. Now I’m almost 40 and I know it like I know my own name.

For my money, the last truly great American rock band.
Awesome song, attaboy Conan.
Holy fuck NO idea Ted Leo was ever on Conan lmao
It is really amazing, no doubt about it. He was there two times with his band. The other performance is here: ruclips.net/video/YIkgxE9jHMA/видео.html
