Well thats basiclly the problem, Matt had the most energy of all of them, Gordon was a great bassist + a good background singer and percussionists. The replacements are good, but lack the energy. It's like Blink without Mark and Travis and with only Tom left: they would be an ok band, but not as great as they have been or as they are now.
is it just me or does this sound a lot faster than it does on the album? nothing wrong with this performance, they’re killing it. i just noticed they’re playing pretty fast.
I remember being in high school listening to this song nonstop, can't believe this performance it's 18 years old and sounds like it was from yesterday.
Gotta be the best love performance of Helicopter... Finally in HD and even at higher FPS... Here's hoping for the Like Eating Glass performance from this show in the same quality!
+acengland82 - I would love for that to be real, but my own belief is that I don't think it exists unfortunately. I kind of think that one taper who walked out of that famed 2003 gig is the only video of its kind. But stick around in the usual places, there are other things to come later.
This might be the best performance I've ever seen by anyone. The perfect tempo and timing. The chemistry between each member. The call and response with any given pair of instruments. The sheer PASSION of the delivery. It's an absolute joy and a pleasure to watch and listen to this. I really, REALLY hope someday I can listen to another record or go to a Bloc Party gig with Matt Tong on drums and Gordon Moakes on bass.
Santiago Bauzá you're not exaggerating is 💯 better than the album version... The way the base swings bruh.... It really is an amazing performance.. When a band gets to have this chemistry is a sign that they're about to blow up ...
bloodyleech lol what? The drums speed up and slow down a lot, Gordon struggles to play along to Matt’s inconsistencies, Matt also simplifies a lot (most likely cause he’s nervous). The guitar playing and singing are great though.
@@drumsonly44 that's a touch harsh (I'm a drummer - maybe you are ?) - I just did a quick metronome exercise - song starts at 182 PM and rises steadily to a max of 189 bpm (approx) with some fluctuation in between. I reckon that's quite consistent given they are not playing to a click track. Drummer is under pressure of tv, loaded with adrenaline and maybe nerves (and it's a VERY lively paced song) - and by God I think it's an AWSOME performance 😉😉 These guys are TIGHT
Lifetime Hip-Hop emcee/rapper here... and i swear this is one of my favorite songs. I probably should thank guitar hero tbh lol. This performance is 🔥🔥🔥🔥 tho. Jesus Chryst!
toby mcmillan lol what? the drumming is not tight at all, Matt’s playing slows down and speeds up and is a lot simpler than the album version, a lot of single kick hits instead of doubles (most likely cause he’s nervous or they’re playing it too fast)
The drumming may be a little up and down, but the band keep up with it, all of the call and response between the guitars flow nicely and everything fits. There's click track time and there's relative time, and these guys definitely have fantastic time relative to eachother. Stuff like this bands FEEL way more interesting than bands who all play to clicks live.
this is their best performance live I really can't find any better from them. So if you are looking for a good live performance from bloc party stop here.
I watch this once a week. And it gets faster every time. By my calculation, if I watch it next summer, it will be going so fast the globe will spin backwards on its axis, allowing Superman to save Lois Lane.
Had to double check that I wasn't watching this on 1.5x speed Friggin' LOVE it!!! [Flash forward to their live versions of "Virtue" and I definitely speed those up to 1.1x or 1.2x speed.]
When I heard this song on burnout I thought it was a stereotypical white guy garage band. I could not have been more wrong lol. I Still love it the same either way
"hey, what tempo should we play for this song?"
"yes."
Marcus Gosling LOL
This is shet
LOL
This whole video clip is shorter than the record version.
"You know that speed that anxious people shake their leg at?"
That bassist is godly. And the drummer Jesus.
@Hooked On Chronics yep... Hideo Kojima isn't a drummer, you missed the joke. Looks like you missed a day in school.
Hooked On Chronics lmao hideo kojima is the creator of the metal gear solid video game series you big dummy
Patrick Daley loool
@Hooked On Chronics never knew idris elba sang. It's Mike tong.
@@confusednsutian7100 oof you got is name wrong too chief. It's Matt Tong
One of the greatest drummers of all time.

Fucking agree! What a legend that energetic lil asian guy is
My thoughts exactly.
at least they play in tempo now@@PolyQuasi

I dont get it..
I miss this Bloc Party....
2 members left and Kele lost his energy to the gym somehow. Russell on cream guitar is still top notch tho
Well thats basiclly the problem, Matt had the most energy of all of them, Gordon was a great bassist + a good background singer and percussionists. The replacements are good, but lack the energy. @@burnbobquist8999 someone summed it up perfectly some bands have the same energy as they did 10 years ago bloc party don’t have that energy
2:20 How in the world did the singer from Slipknot make it to a backstage microphone unnoticed?
I know 😂
😂
What a ear
Must've been Matt aha
How the hell did you catch that?
Drummer killed it
Hideo Kojima
@@Swashbuckler9x racist
@@Swashbuckler9x 😂 they do look similar
Matt’s a damn fine player
The best thing about this is that it looks like it could have been broadcasted yesterday, hard to believe it’s 16 years old
20 years now
is it just me or does this sound a lot faster than it does on the album? nothing wrong with this performance, they’re killing it. i just noticed they’re playing pretty fast.
yes the studio version is 170BPM and this is being played at around 180BPM
Probably nerves making them play faster
It’s called energy, live tv nerves and cocaine…
@@user-lt8cg3su6b its even faster than 180BPM, but is inconsistent.
I always thought most rock songs live are played faster
These guys deserve so much recognition than they got, still listening to em nearly 15 years later and they still sound good.
I honestly don't think there's ever been a Jools holland from a new band that his literally blown my mind. What a performance, 11 out of 10!
Bjork ones, Radiohead But this is one of my favs. i cant deny that
this, radiohead, eels and at the drive in were my favorites.

Hideo Kojima on drums
Zack on Bass
Cody on Lead guitar
Idris Elba on Vocals and Rhythm Guitar

TOTALLY! LOL
You mean Jonny Greenwood on lead?
I lol'd.
Brenno Lyncolm my two favorite bands 😂😂😂
- “You must play a song under 3’30”
- “We’ll fit it”.
Crazy that they're all looking at the drummer as he counts them in, and every single one of them still came in rushing, lol
I just checked. THey were 😂😂😂
Love the guitarist rocking the jonny greenwood look with the tele, haircut and shirt
The good old days.
Brah the drummer though.. Jeez it’s like three drummers playing in perfect harmony at once!! Some serious skills right there👍🏽
Driven...desire... power & angst..... with slashing guitars,,,,, killer combination. That is ALL

Solid, tight, precise performance whilst having that raw charm of a live rendition. I love this.

I loved kele's hair back then
Use to go off playing this on guitar hero lol
LEAH I SWEARRRRR🤣🔥🔥🔥
This is genuinely one of the best live performances of this song I’ve seen. I almost like it more than the studio version

Not too sure. Will have to see how well we can move on things and balance time. But things are being planned out for sure.
Love the teles!! What they are playing is easy but the tempo is what makes it amazing and that much difficulty harder.
