Emo guitarist, Black lead singer, Asian drummer, non emo looking white kid with a great voice, this is like a high school band in a contest and I love it
This band is so underrated. The drummer has some awesome beats, both guitarists compliment each other so well with the "ping-pong" riff and the bassist has some great grooves. One of the best indie songs ever. Had this song on repeat back in college.
I don't think they are "underrated", they are very popular and their songs have always had lots of radio airtime. Certainly from the Silent Alarm album. Awesome band 👌
+Johnny Showbones I know man, I miss the days when I could just tuck my sack back and dance around in the mirror to some good old bloc party. Oh wait a minute, thanks to the miracle of digital recording I can. See ya.
Erik Ruiz They aren't bigger due to being older now. They've clearly been spending time in the gym. Kele looks jacked these days and Russell definitely looks more muscular as well.
Erik, that´s the biggest stupidity I´ve ever heard, man... do you think the human body becomes stronger as time passes? Do yo think you are going to have a body like they have when you are in your 30´s without lifting??? hahahahahaha
That bass player is really underrated in my opinion. He grooves really hard, has great rhythm and plays some nice melodic-but-tasteful stuff within the 1st and 2nd octaves.
Seriously! I just recommended this album to my younger cousin because of the drums. Silent Alarm is probably my desert island album. Wish I could go back and see/hear/feel them again live
I’m ashamed to admit but I only recently gave this band a try. I have to say I think they’re amazing. I’ve been discovering all of their material and I’m slapping myself for not giving them a listen years ago. They sound amazing here.
They were pretty damn good can in the day. Saw them headline Warped Tour at Shoreline Amphitheatre in '07 or '08 can't remember now it has been so long. They were great live.
Im a mixed brown guy who wantee to be matt the asian drummer! 20 years later im still not asian but damm good at drums now. Thanks for the influence matt!
THIS SOUNDS EVEN BETTER THAN STUDIO VERSION. WHAT THE HELL. The guitar work, falsettos, brutal drum beats, deep bass, everything is there like in studio version. God damn it, this blew my mind.
Saw them live in Middlesbrough in 2005 and it is one of my favourite live experiences. The next few times were brilliant too. Still have half of Matt's drumstick
Ever since I started listening to Bloc Party I always thought Russell on lead guitar reminded me of Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead. The look and the moves and even his guitar style the frantic slides on the guitar hitting those high notes. Silent Alarm will always be my favourite album from these guys one of the first CD's I bought when I was younger
The mixing crew deserves a lot of credit. This is effectively a different take on a live studio performance. Each instrument is input directly into a master feed and the production team will adjust as they see fit depending on the song. They do a pre-mix during dress rehearsals and learn the format of the song, balance all the instruments and mics.
Saw these guys live at a local/small scale festival in NB, Canada several years back... easily one of my favourite bands all time, wish they were still putting music out....
@@andreyofdoom The vinyl arrived a bit earlier this month, but I havn't had a chance yet! I gotta find a new spot for my record player... I've heard a couple songs from the album on youtube though and based off that it sounds good

Had the pleasure of watching these guys play in Dublin a few years back, absolutely outstanding live. I'd pay to see these boys live every day, so sad they split.
I've always felt the lack of reverb on bloc party's live sets disturbing, it feels like I'm listening to an audio message someone sent me on messenger lite or some weird shit, but this band is great and I can put up with that
Update they're back together! However the drummer and bassist are different... Lead singer and lead guitarist are original. They also just put out a new album! Definitely give their new song "Traps" a listen!

Do you like the strokes? They are perhaps the most famous band for that kind of thing.
Yeah, for example check out The Adults Are Talking by Strokes, it's a great example of call and response style.

Hideo Kojima on drums
Everybody likes matt tong
that stereo chop guitar style they used during this era was hot. great use of space from each instrument
Typical early 2000 garage revival style. I remember the Libertines and Interpol also liked using that.
