- Peter and Barbara Wyckham plan to travel by railway from London to a country house in Somerset, but Peter (Richard Briers) misses the train. Another intending traveller in a similar plight is Marguerite Hickett, an old friend of Peter's from the days before their marriages. They decide to hire a motor car and drive to Somerset, but the car breaks down and they seek refuge at the local inn. Only one bedroom is available, and as it is very clear that the landlady, Mrs Spoker, will not admit an unmarried couple, Peter and Marguerite check in as husband and wife. Barbara jumps to the conclusion that Peter and Marguerite have run away together.
Also stars Arthur Lowe and Frank Thornton.
Broadcast 26th September 1970

This was filmed when I was just three months old, with Captain George Mainwaring, Tom Good and Captain Stephen Peacock - Walmington on Sea meets Grace Brothers and suburban Surbiton!
Arthur Lowe was a busy man back then he did an awful lot of work on television and radio
Thanks again for sharing
😁👍
Well he had his motor yacht to run !
When you are as talented as him you are always in demand.
This is amazing, I had no idea the radio drama I listened to 3 days ago had a video. Thank you so very much

Truly one of the best.
It's strange seeing Lowe as someone different to the pompous Capt Mainwaring. A great comedic actor.
I hated Mainwaring the character for the way he mistreated Wilson all of the time. It just goes to show how good Lowe was to evince that feeling within me. A truly brilliant actor.
Wonderful old English farce
Well done.
Classic Richard Briers farce.
So funny, thanks for posting it.

Is the script a lesser work by Noel Coward, or is it inspired by Noel Coward? Veeerrry drawing room comedy! I wonder...did the landlady, many years later, play the aunt of Edmund Blackadder? Their strick moralistic attitude is the same.
And why was he with that French woman in the first place? I may have missed that.
They were old friends who happened to meet on the platform, and became engrossed in conversation.
