    My first wheel was a non force feed back wheel (Madcatz) and it inspired me to go and upgrade to a Logitech. Some people may try this (cheap starter wheel) and go the opposite route and feel sim racing with a wheel isn't worth it.

    • @KarlGosling
      @KarlGosling  2 года назад +5

      hmm... I think most people would go your way mate, it's still a big step up from a controller, at least you're sat in the driving position using all the correct controls as if you were in a car rather than your thumbs! lol

      I think, most people go this way. I've upgraded all the way up from the cheapest wheel.
      I started with a Logitech Formula Vibration, later Formula Force Ex and DFGT. And then I didn't use it much for 5 years or more so. Then out of nowhere in '19 I bought a G29. Last year I bought a Wheel stand and upgraded to T300, T-LCM and TH8A. This year I've upgraded to Fanatec, except for the pedal set (which is in my plans later). :D I think most of the simracers did this (of course with skipping a few steps maybe, somebody starts with a T300, but recently I saw a lot of people starting with a GT DD Pro which surprised me).

    The intro to this reminds me of just how lucky I am. My wife just doesn’t give a shit about me spending money on stuff like this.. she asks questions (feigns interest lol), has a go on the stuff and has not once moaned about any of it.. as long as the bills are paid she don’t care… She’s an absolute star tbh

    My local micro center had this for $99.99 instead of the usuall $179.99. That was the only reason I bought this. Sure it’s not as great as a Logitech or thrustmaster and has no ffb but for $100 it does why it needs to do and more tbh especially since the shifter comes included in that price.

      thats nice, i found one for 110$! or around 89 pound, although it is just "60" dollars away from logitech g920, but in my country's currency, its around 840 more than the pxn v9 💀i hate and love being asian 😭

    Honestly last few years are the best and worst years for simracing at the same time. Good thing is that everybody now makes simracing gear which it does finally give you options/choices to make but bad thing is that prices are disgusting. Everybody is on the simracing bandwagon now and the results are atrocious. Especially the lower budget area was hit really hard by this silliness.
    But i most certainly agree that you dont need high end gear to just have fun in simracing. Anything more than a gamepad it really adds to the entertainment which is that exactly the purpose of gaming.
    Lovely video m8!

      Agreed mate, I often mention how as sim racers we get our pants pulled down on price, it's just terrible really!

    • @mrmatata608
      @mrmatata608 2 года назад

      So what you mean is, that this is "pants down" the best entry wheel ? :D
      (terrible joke, sorry)

  • @-fatal-
    @-fatal- 2 года назад +3

    I'm still think that the best really-really entry level option is a used Logitech DFGT (on PC of course, it's not compatible with any of the current consoles). I don't know why Logitech didn't make a PS4 version of it, it was a popular entry level stuff, I had one, gave it away to a friend.

  • @barry-clark

    Good review, totally agree about the price. Sub one hundred and it starts to make sense. Around Black Friday I've noticed the G29 gets reduced to £130-140 (I bought one 3-4 years ago for that price). I would much rather wait half a year and bag that than pay similar money for a non force feedback wheel. That said this might be good for people who live in apartments where noise might be a consideration.

    Nice review, I was looking at this wheel for a while, end up buying a G920 and shifter for my first racing sim experience, I wanted the force feedback feature, which really helps with understanding the road.

  • @slippin_jimmy

    A choice of suction or a hard mount while playing 'Dirty'. I don't know how you get away with this stuff Karl 😂

  • @weirdomonkey
    @weirdomonkey 2 года назад +2

    I haven't had a spring return wheel since my Mad Catz over two decades ago. But I entirely agree that after a Logitech set, you start to hit a point of diminishing returns for enjoyment and feel. Logitech is still the best value for money and reliability in my opinion, particularly used. It's just a shame they didn't revise the shifter when they made it an optional component. I've gone with the DD Pro now, and it really is amazing kit.

    • @KarlGosling
      @KarlGosling  2 года назад +1

      DD Pro is a lovely balance between price and performance IMO.

    • @weirdomonkey
      @weirdomonkey 2 года назад +1

      @@KarlGosling Your review of that and the Playseat Trophy helped a lot when I was upgrading my old G27 that was on a Wheel Stand Pro. Though if I was to recommend the DD Pro to anyone else, just get the 8Nm wheel base, then add on pedals and nicer wheel with the metal quick release. The GT wheel is serviceable, but I quickly swapped it.

  • @steam-SMOKEY

    Waiting on my csl dd's but my g29 with the MVH GT mod is brilliant for us "newbies" which imo is well worth saving that bit extra for anyone on a budget to get the g29. They wouldn't be disappointed 👍

    I bought this before. If you really want this, you can buy it. This is not bad.
    But in my opinion, if you want to buy this, you should spend a little more money to buy the G920 or T248p, or buy Hori's 270 degrees, which is more than $ 100 cheaper than this.

  • @ACasualRacer
    @ACasualRacer 2 года назад +2

    I think they should drop the shifter and try to retail for $80. That would be the same price as a controller and I think it'd be a really popular product at that price point.

      @@KarlGosling I've watched a few more reviews of this and it looks like there is a hi/low switch on the shifter for Truck Simulator games so you can have 12 gears to shift through. One guy said the switch for the parking brake allows you to switch the H-pattern shifter into handbrake mode, (not sure if that's accurate). This looks like the perfect option for switch owners or people that want one solution for all of their consoles. Also it has Bluetooth and an app that lets you configure button mappings for each game and save/apply them through the app!! Wow that's a pretty cool feature!
