I had one of the early bazookas and in fact still have but I love this one, for me the H pattern feels a little more precise and then obviously having bonus of sequential. Picked mine up from the workshop and met Dave and the team for the first time very professional setup and great personal service, can’t be bear imo
@@KarlGosling I already sold it when I bought a Bash Pro (you should review that shifter! Also love it). But even with an active shifter I'm tempted to get this one cause ei loved the first model so much.
Sadly, mine lasted less than two weeks before the sequential shifting failed. Currently awaiting my replacement, which I should hopefully get next week.
You have cost me so much money Karl. And I don’t regret a single purchase! Between active belts, haptics, and more, your reviews are so detailed and thoughtful. Now, if only my job would allow me to stay at home long enough to use these toys :) Thanks for all you do mate
lol I know that feeling! Have far less time to race than I'd like, life is always in the way! Apologies to your wallet also but thanks or the kind words!
Karl, I now know you are just as fanatical as myself! I had the original bazooka handmade by Ben and just got the new one and I absolutely love it, but yeah that thing with the screws on the collar got me too! In fact I did have to tighten the nut a bit from shipping since there isn’t a complete contact circle they are more prone to vibration loosening. With our motion rigs that’s more of an issue.
Beautiful. Its expensive but, as someone who's been dissapointed with lower quality sim gear in the past, it might actually work out cheaper in the long term. Buy once, sorted for the rest of my sim racing life. So when it's time to replace my current shifter.....
Holy $#!+ This is nicer than the unit in my real car. Was this built in the building next door to the f1 factories with their leftover bits 😂 God tier sim equipment... very nice.
Excellent review, you are very good. I love this gearbox and I have the version only at h. I have the temptation to buy this too and Dave know it 😂, but resist. Only one question, the part to H compared with the previous one how is it? Thank you
That thing looks absolutely absolutely amazing, but I feel like there really should be an easy way to change the shifter length. Maybe something like a heim joint at the most complicated? Or really just include 2 or 3 different sizes of shorter threaded sections to go between the base and shift nob- that way it would be possible to mix and match/ add and subtract for the desired height/ throw, and it would just be some extra pieces of cheap metal tube... I know it probably sounds nitpicky but it's so close to being perfect, and the premium price, makes it suck that much more to see something missing that could easily be there (like that nylock nut). Still, I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I had a rig worthy enough to put it on.
I wish I could send my first gen shifter back to get modded with the sensors and the new boards Might just end up buying one of these seq versions down the road instead and sell my gen 1
Absolutely great vid Karl! Honest question...which shifter, in your opinion, has the better, more authentic feeling for H-Pattern shifting between this one and the Pro--Sim Quaife? And if you had a Quaife would you sell it to get this one?
I owned a ProSim until I bought the first BDH H1 "Bazooka." There's a lot of difference in the feel of both. I Ultimately chose to sell the ProSim as the BDH felt more authentic for the cars I like to race, for example, Lotus 49, Ford Escort. The ProSim is an excellent shifter, l it felt more like a big luxury car, BMW 7 series with Manual transmission than the rawness of a race car, which the Bazooka did. It's not a decision I regret. The BDH just suited my needs better. At the end of the day, it is subjective. Some prefer one or the other, although having said that, I do know there's a number of people who have swapped over like I did. Of course there is also the price tag. The BDH is still a big saving over the ProSim, and now offers more bang for buck with the new dual mode H1-SQ. Recently, I used one of these new H1-SQ shifters on a friend's rig, I put my order in the next morning and can't wait to receive it.
@@strattwanger Thanks so much for your reply. I don't know if it's me just being crazy, but it seems, based on what I see and hear in the video, that the BDH has a bit more "clank" in its feeling when engaging in the gears. Whereas with the Quaife, at least on mine, has this sort of "sloshy" type feel. I would prefer something with a bit more "thunk" or "clank" when engaging the gears. Am I correct in this assumption? The other thing is, while yes you can tighten up the gears in the Quaife and adjust the tension, the problem is when you do so, gears 5 and 6 become much MUCH stiffer than the other 4 gears, to the point where I can't even engage the shaft into position. Did you have this same issue strattwanger?
@@isamuu99 Yes I did !! though Id forgotten, the BDH is far better as all the gears are equally adjusted with the tensioner. The Sloshy feel is a good way to describe the ProSim feel. Again, the BDH is definitely a more positive engagement with a very satisfying Clunk on engagement. Another thing worth noting is the customer support with BDH really is second to none.
@@strattwanger Thanks so much for your reply mate! WOW and here I thought it was only me. Your confirmation on this issue has made me rethink whether or not I want to trade my Quaife for the BDH. I'm giving it some serious thought now.
Costs more than my entire 20nm direct drive rig. Looks nice, would love to have one but there's no way on earth I will ever be shelling out that much for a shifter. Don't care how good it is.
This is a lovely piece of engineering art. I just can’t spend this much on a shifter that still isn’t active in any way. It looks amazing and I’m sure it feels amazing but when others shifters with clutch bound lockout exists this is just too much money for what it offers.
It depends want you want mate, a more realistic feeling shifter that is infinity better quality or a clutch lockout for the odd time you miss shift... One day we will have both I'm sure! :D
@@KarlGoslingNothing compares to the quality on display here. It’s a piece of engineered artwork. I just feel like I can’t buy an end game shifter this expensive until an active one of this quality is available. I could only validate spending this much on an endgame product.
I mean, the knob itself isn't as important(unless you're fiddling with it enough that any issues will compound) but you do want it to be at least a certain quality. don't want it to be jumping around all over the place on it's return when you're just gently rotating. but you don't need german engineered, lubricated by ancient elephant oil or anything stupid like that. just a non-shit potentiometer, and a knob you can actually grip. Looking at this, are you sure it's not over-engineered just a bit? This thing is $1,250 before shipping... A sim setup that includes this is going to be more expensive than an actual car...
@@KarlGosling To make sure I don't misspeak(type?), and to be clear, I'm not really saying that this is a bad product. I'm also fairly certain by a quick glance that between the materials, labor, and R/D that went into making it, that price tag might be fully justified. The question is whether anyone who's dad isn't an oil barron or a youtuber/influencer that will be given/loaned it will actually get their money's worth out of it. Imagine a dining room chair. You can get a dining chair with a padded seat for $60 off ikea(can likely find cheaper, but I'm attempting to avoid bias). Or, you can get a Low Back Cherry Cherry Chairs: Modern Farmhouse chair for $360 that lacks the padding(each, tho they say you can get a discount for buying multiples). Yes, one is made in a factory, the other is hand made. That's why one has a more expensive cost/price tag. The issue here is with value received. Out of the two, my ass is going for the one with padding that's 1/6th the price. Not really what it's for, that should be felt through the rig via transducers or actuators... otherwise when you let go of the shifter to steer the car your feedback is gone which would feel very odd! lol
i have to confess being one of those amp knob snobs. but i would have really liked a tear down to get a clearer idea of the working principle. otherwise i can simply not imagine how this is not just an overenginered 40e aliexpress shifter. excuse my ignorance in advance

There are a number of photos out there showing the internals of this beast, I can assure you it's every bit as beautiful inside, possibly more so, as it is outside
Active lockout is useful... if you miss-shift a lot. I prefer a much higher quality and more realistic shifter... and just change gear correctly, as you should anyway.
Did everybody just forget about the gated shifter look for fuks sake?! Can we have something classy looking like the TH8R from Thrustmaster with all this engineering. Any decade now? 😐
As this has sort of a "gearbox" inside that just wouldn't work, you could stick an H gate plate on the top but it wouldn't look right... this looks classy AF IMO!
