  • The University of Washington (UW) released Thursday its final report in a first-of-its-kind study on the potential impacts of drug use on transit systems in western Washington.
The limited-scope, first-of-its-kind assessment was conducted earlier this year in partnership with five transit agencies in Washington and Oregon.
A UW research team collected air and surface samples for fentanyl and methamphetamine from 11 buses and 19 train cars, according to the report.

So, no one is allowed to smoke cigarettes on buses or in public spaces due to the dangers of second hand smoke but it’s O.K. To use illegal drugs? They are completely covering for their lack of

Its the same in Portland. I have had fentanyl smoke blown in my face at a MAX station. I had a dude doing meth in a seat in my train car on the way to PSU. Every single day I go to class it is dangerous. This is insaine.

Unfortunately, the Left Coast said: "We lost the War On Drugs", and most people there have accepted that message.

What’s it like to have meth smoke blown in your face compared to marijuana smoke? I’ve had smoke from weed blown in my face never meth.

100% of air samples? Was the person conducting the test doing meth at the time?

King County Public Transit is unsafe for sure and dirty, no security and 100% you’ll see drug use during your ride. It’s a shame to because I feel their public transit system is set up so well, but ppl will continue to avoid it so they don’t have to see a meth head stick a kool-aid jammer up his butt, while screaming profanity one seat over while high out of his mind and you have your kids with you, with no hope of security or cops preventing this. Only time to use the light rail is after a game, other than that, you won’t catch me on it.

This is ridiculous when you know you have KIDS in SCHOOL taking public buses to school and home. The fact that there isn't strict "don't generate all the meth and fent smoke...cuz...kids you know?" is REALLY !@#!@#@ STUPID!

Oh common kid can buy a gun at 18 years old, but still can’t drink alcohol. But also kid can see all of this bacchanalia with drugs availability. How easy it’s can be get and use without any consequences. Shame

What about when someone is actively smoking next to you? We know second hand smoke from cigarettes is dangerous. There's no way meth and fent second hand smoke is not dangerous.

I highly recommend not taking public transit, especially after hearing that though extremely high levels of dangerous drugs were found on transit it is deemed "safe". We the people decide what is safe nowadays as it is detremental to our health and physical safety to take any reccomendation from outside agencies on face value.

It was sad to see how nonchalant they were about the drivers and riders being exposed. They just don’t care anymore about any of our futures, especially the ones suffering from addiction.

I don’t understand how they stand for it. If I were the bus drivers I’d go on strike until they had protocols to stop it. Or heck get together and create a class action law suit against the city for putting them in unnecessary danger due to a second hand drug that has been proven to be highly dangerous!
As long as people allow it, it will continue. Why don’t people, especially in this day and age, understand the power they have in numbers if they would just work together!!
