In the current version of blender grease pencil makes the system leg so much when you have more than one Grease pencil object in the scene. When making anime characters we use grease pencil outlines but it makes editing the mesh impossible because of the one and a half second leg between Mouse input and screen output. I hope they optimize the code in the next version because it's unusable for me at this point.
@@Arjjacks that could be good news. I had to put a modeling project aside due to sluggish viewport performance--I could no longer work on it with any efficiency. Hopefully I can resume the project when this update goes live.
In the Adobe Animate program, there is the Symbol and Nested Symbol feature, which speeds up work very much, and I did not find anything similar to it in other programs. Is there a similar feature or ability in Grease pencil ?
Great video! Thanks Dantti for putting it together! I have a quick question regarding the GP - 3D conversion. What you showed works great on linework strokes. Is there a way to convert FILL GPencil strokes into 3D using geometry nodes? Thanks again!
@@Dantti Gotcha! Thank you. That is great to know. I tried using the Fill Curve Geometry Node but it doesn't really work properly. I hope they will figure that one out, because this one thing is the last missing component to really have the ability to integrate GP fully with 3D scenes and transparent textures etc. Anyway, thanks so much for your reply and the video. I learnt a lot from you!
@@maciejgliwa Thank you man! I'm 100% sure they will :) I can't wait for all the cool effects and animations you can make when that's possible. Shape keys are cool and all but it's so good when you can create 3D stuff using GP keyframes ❤️
I never try to apply geometry on an grease pencil animated stroke, but on regular bezier curve or path it's already super powerfull, this feature make a step further if we could apply object on hand made animated cell work by using this feature.
True, that would save so much time! I just made a tutorial where you can kinda get motion blur to work with fast animations when you have some strokes turned to mesh and moved to the front :)
How do I make an object that has an image texture on it to reflect the light. I've tried everything from different shaders.. but I can't mix a shader and the texture in anything because image texture has yellow output and shader has green output.
How to increase render time fast in Blender for grease pencil. I know 3d it takes time but can it be as fast as Animate cc would love to find a hack please anyone.

Thats true if you compare to toon boom, but Grease pencil have a lot of function also for modeling vector curve that extrude 3D shape or as a path tracing guide for animated 3D or particule object, can also be a 2.5D animatic tool for Quick storyboard in 3D space and thats very valuable when you mix 3D with 2D element, 3D compositing of bitmap element as a single or image sequence is also possible with image plane import and are much RAM and GPU efficient in Blender , that what i was able to do with the same feature in DaVinci resolve fusion or Adobe After Effect, i made heavy 4K usage of real vidéo shot export from da Vinci in open EXR format and compositing in 3D inside Blender without a crash, the same simple stuff was more painfull to do in a payed version of DaVinci resolve Fusion !!!

Wow, full of details as always. I'm happy that you speak about Grease Pencil, cuase I think it's a great great great tool. Thanks :)

Thanks for showing so many possibilities! This is so interesting
The possibilities are endless. :)
This is going to be great for painting ! ! !
OMG EVERYTHING CHANGES EVERYTHING
I wish people make more grease pencil documentation. especially on rigging the 2D
That's great to hear. Thank you for the information. I'd appreciate it if Blender could include a text shader in the material.

That's part of the update. GP will actually be the new curves datatype, which is supposed to be much, much more performant than the current system.

Yeah they’re going to replace the grease pencil old code

Oh, I don't wanna wait til November for this. Seems there is still a few major issues with the alpha, but I like the direction it's going for sure.

You can use sculpt mode on GP strokes, not bezier curves

I want to see Grease Pencil integrate motion blur tools for interpolating between keyframes

I wish they could add pen and curvature tool like in Adobe Illustrator
I think it was already done 1 year ago
But tools like illustrator will always step ahead in vector 2D work. Because that is their specialisation
Now the question is in what version will they fix all the bugs that come with eevee next, unusable for more complex projects.
Thanks for the Tutorial & I really like your talking Avatar
