Loved this video ❤ For me I've put a lot of hours in over the last 2 weeks and I really can't see myself going away from this game any time soon, it's got me hooked hard and I haven't felt this way about a game in a long time
I think a thematic map like the seasons will be a positive change. Like same map, layout but with different assets. Would help retain casuals at least.
That would be awesome, but I think the dev has confirmed that the game would have multiple maps, so you're not gonna play the same map over and over again.
dont worry there will be map changes every year. just like dota. but let them finish the game and add more heroes first.those are more important. there should not be much changes in the map untill release but after first year u will see it. as what u can expect from map changes, there will be diffrent jubgle placements. new rotes. new objectives. and more places to do specific stuff depending on new mechanics.
UPDATED ABRAMS GUIDE YEAHHHH. Im legit happy you're pivoting towards that. Great game, by the way! I'm confident in the long term success of the game. You gotta remember, unlike your previous interests this is a game made by Valve. They're talented, stable long term, they aren't a public company, and they have a proven excellent track record with DotA 2.
I absolutely love your content regardless of the game. I've been watching you since your Destiny videos, and your videos still have the same earnest value to them. I love the way you explain things and there's such a high tier of quality put into your videos. Maybe it's your voice, too. You're very easy to listen to and I actively want to know what you have to say.
yo, big overwatch nerd here, i coach that game and our concepts of peel and zoning are extremely hero specific, and not tied to role. they're also incredibly abstract. I agree that it doesnt transfer perfectly but some abilities like paradox wall and mo kril unburrow are almost 1-to-1 mirrors of abilities that we assign that macro function in overwatch. I think there's a LOT of potential for deliberate isolation and peel in deadlock, at least in fights, and we just havent really started to explore it yet. In ow it took a good year or two for those ideas to get fleshed out, and i think that's gonna be true for deadlock too. hope u see this and find it interesting!
The really striking thing for me is how full of depth and surprise this game is. Ex: Ive had times where while playing as gheist 3-4 players will jump on me. I'll think "There's no way I'm getting out of this," and then ill heal like maniac, kill 2 heros, and still slip out!
I agree with almost everything, but shiv can definitely be considered a true tank character too. Abrams and shiv are the only charracters with damage reduction built into their kit
@@MarcoStyle that's fair, I generally build shiv as a tanky melee hero like a lot of people build Abrams but you are right he feels more like a tanky assassin instead of a traditional tank
I've had some fun playing MOBAs with friends over the last decade, but my love has always been with shooters and this game is the PERFECT amount of both for me right now. Really hoping we don't see power creep become an issue with the game in the future.
Struggling to make content? Easy fix. Stream! Please stream! I'm here for the deadlock guides and content but I'm also here for you as a person. Stream deadlock and I'm sure loads of people like myself will want to watch and tune in to see you play.
I personally always liked being a jack of all trades in games, the problem always is ther nobody likes it when you aren't in a specific roll. In deadlock it kinda works with Seven and infernus. Seven can slow, stun, reduce spirit resist and has a potential teamfight carring ult. So with the right items he can do "everything" Infernus isn't that much the case but with the right items he can do it also kinda good. Slow on 1, engage with flame dash + ult, 3 for dot, reduce spirit damage. With inhibitor you reduce their damage even more and with ricocchet you can spread it. With leech and resistence items you can also become very tanky!
I enjoyed the video today. I've been addicted to deadlock too and have put around 100 hours in the past 3 weeks or so. I really like this game and I think the goofy parts are what holds it together. I am kinda worried about the future of this game because it seems the community is interested in forcing a large esports/competetive environment before valve has the chance to really flesh things out. I saw a post on twitter about creating a collegiate deadlock league which feels kinda ridiculous currently. I hope deadlock will still be popular casually and keep its goofy parts if it does blow up as an esport. Looking forward to your next Abrams guide 💯
I totally agree, i actually have to stop myself playing the game and do real life things, which i havent had since Overwatch 1 came out and i was trying to compete in amateur tournaments. I love the game, i rage at it sometimes but thats all part of the love haha Keep the vids coming though, you've been too quiet the last week or so and i need Deadlock content to watch on my lunch break haha
I'm pretty high rank in overwatch. Have been gm. I think you described why tank works in ow pretty decently. It is true that because the game is about 1 objective at any given time, everyone is forced to go through a tank in some way. Tanks either take advantage of the fact that you have to touch point and kill/force cooldowns of those that DON'T want to be on point. IE: Ball and Doomfist don't really want to hold point, but they usually go for people rotating to point. While characters like Rein or Orisa will stop people from getting to point or stop them from going to a position to fight for point optimally or can just force the point themselves. The biggest difference, imo is the multiple points. If you were forced to fight over one objective like in overwatch, tanky characters would be far more powerful. But in deadlock there are a dozen viable things that every member of a team can be doing at any one time. You just aren't forced to "get through" the tank. Therefore the idea of tank is a lot more fluid. Tanking in deadlock is more about engaging imo. Which IS similar to overwatch, but the way you engage is very different and you can tank without being a fat boy with a lot of hp.
Solid explanation. The thing he misses because he hasn't played OW is that the different modes don't have a cart, but they do all force fights around changing objectives. Same intent either way!
ExOW player that moved to Deadlock here. Man I wish the part where you said "tanks and healers get value because dps stays close to them" is true XD So many dps spam need healing when they're across the map behind 4 walls lmaoooo There is a "frontline" and "backline" but it's constantly moving and shifting so much due to the objective, map design and hero specific abilities that it becomes rather hard to pin point. OW is really distinct in that regard. That being said, I love the vid! Keep it up!
I feel the same way about Kelvin that you do for Abrams. I feel like no other character really slots into the pure support role quite like Kelvin, and so I have almost zero interest in other characters. When I do branch out and play Mo and Krill, Dynamo, Viscous, etc. I just play them as damage dealers, and typically have a lot less fun, even when I do well. Very frustrating because I have a friend with thousands of hours in DOTA 2 who constantly plays with me, but shames me for "maining" and tells me I'll never be good until I learn how to play the whole roster. I simply don't want to play characters like Wraith, Infernus, etc. It's not that I disagree with him, but that I don't have fun playing them. Really hoping we get more characters who naturally fill that support shaped void in the cast, because gun Dynamo and spirit Ivy really are just better than whatever support build you might try to force.
I love the fact it dos not have side content for now. To game modes, no monetisation or anything. Just the game. That is really rare recently, even more in multiplayer games. I don't expect it to stay this way but I'll enjoy it for as long as I can.
Game seems to be going in the right direction. I just hope Valve keeps evolving this. I'm planning on diving in soon as well. Also: your videos on Deadlock are *great* so I hope you keep on keeping on. I wouldn't worry about the player drop off at this point - it's natural. Hell we should take a look at DOTA 2 and CSGO's early time player numbers, especially CSGO is a bit of a exception that proves the rule kinda deal. People generally love the game, but there's always an initial burst of players that try it out due to hype, realize that they can't stand MOBA-ish games and back off after a bit. It's the slow *growth* up until launch that Valve should be aiming for imho :p Just like they did with CS back then.
Being able to hold my attention without 1 single progression mechanism is vrazy work. This game is basically my perfect game. I'm 15 years deep into playing multiplayer shooters, I'm 8 years deep into playing LoL. This game is basically just hand designed for players like me.
About the OW part (12:50 give or take) you're half right. DPS in OW can flank and snipe a bit more freely than on Deadlock, where some heroes/characters (in OW) HAVE to play that style to gain value. OW is solely focused on the PvP aspect since there is no Minions/NPCs.
I'd really love a keybind video from you. I have a hard time setting everything up with all the items, abilities, and different movement as well from mobas. Thanks for the videos!
I love this game, I've gotten just over a 100 hours in just over a month of playing. I agree with everything you said this game is just all around enjoyable and I feel like I've gotten to get in in the "next big thing".
Yea I love this game. Hoping more of my friends will see the potential even while it is still early.

Yess! upgraded abrams guide! You are my fav deadlock youtuber! And i was playing abrams before even watching you and you opened my third eye without the Patreons help. Now i wanna double down on abrams. i think the game is hella fun and even tho valve tends to treat their existing games in a bad way (like cs and tf, as a cs2 player mainly im very annoyed, im hoping its because just like this game is more fun to play, its also more fun for the whole company to work on...), they might have a keen eye on mobas. Deadlock is the future of mobas. They are cooking here, im optimistic!

Once they release the game from closed alpha or whatever this is, theres gonna be more content (at least I hope, the only content in cs2 is a cashgrab update, we still dont even have achievements lol) I'm also hoping they will do something with counter strike once deadlock is in a somewhat finished state but if we're being honest the way they can keep it alive is by never really finishing it...
I also love how Deadlock feels so fresh, not just because of its mechanics, but also the setting and art. Not a lot of games go with occult noir besides like, Skullgirls or something.
I personally only have 84 hours, but I still learn a lot each day playing the game and that's what makes it very fun to me. I'm able to queue as a bunch of characters I enjoy and let the game decide, try different builds to see what I enjoy, learn better routes via movement and jungle timers. The item shop is fun to figure out what counters specific characters and what works with the characters I play. I've never really enjoyed MOBAs that much, but it's really fun.
Thanks for this video. I've played a lot of Heroes of the Storm and Overwatch with my group, and tried to introduce them to this game but they didn't get it and bounced off and I didn't understand why really. You described some of the things I appreciate so much about Deadlock really well, e.g. the characters are not stuck in tank/support/dps like in HotS. I def think this is less complex than Dota 2, and a bit more than HotS and Overwatch, but deep games are so much fun once you get over that initial learning! I also hope with more players the matchmaking gets better so you can introduce friends without them then getting matched around your rank. It is not fun as a beginner to get wrecked in lane in this game...
From my experience with about 10 people who abandoned it, it was exclusively the "feelsright" factor. This I mean on a very fundamental level, not as in "wow I did an insane play and now I feel good". I know people who quite literally despise OW, who hop on it every now and then just to headshot someone a couple of times, for example and that aspect can't be marred by end game result, someone trolling or even a general dislike of the entire game, characters and mechanics. All those reasons of course are important, which is why they fire it up once every three months for an hour, but they still do it. Every single person I know, about ten of them, who bounced off when it comes to Deadlock, did it because of lack of that. Some of them even played for like 200+ hours and got very good at even advanced stuff, some for 10. But, it was unanimous when I asked them. And it also doesn't have anything to do with where the game is in the development stage either, so it's not some polish thing. That particular type of reason people bounce off is tricky because it can't be offset by objectively good things such as, whatever, good MM, role popularity discrepancy being alleviated by archetypes being flexible, enjoyable loop and so on. It's too fundamental of a thing, it's like a lizard brain level of feedback. None of them left because of the learning curve or the concept of the game or anything like that either. As I mentioned, it was unanimous, which I actually never saw happen with them. I am kinda playing it, but I feel the same looming presence of it and who knows what future brings in my own case.
I discovered this game three days ago, and it's already a true obsession. I finally got a full night's sleep, and am now raring to go get destroyed by people who actually know how to play! No words I can say will do justice to how much I love this game.
I’m near 200 hours and having an absolute blast but I agree with your point that it will decline likely because others (and maybe myself) will fall off before main release. The constant updates have kept the games refreshing tbh, but I do hope they end up adding a Joust/3v3 game mode simply to have a change of literal pace in the game. With regular matches taking anywhere from 30-50 mins, a shorter game mode would be personally nice for when I get on discord and the fellas are 10 mins into a game lol
Deadlock consumed me for a few weeks there it 100% has a magic that a lot of other games lack as someone who played a ton of Overwatch I think Deadlock at this point has way more pull, it's been so fun I hope it keeps growing.
Dude I fully understand. I am 300 hours in and its the only game I want to actually be good at. It is so fun. I even changed my entire RUclips channel to center around it lmao
Saw this game when my laptop went bye bye (about one and a half months ago) and only have my new PC now for 5 days. Already locked in 20+ hours in this game and I swear it's so good. And I agree with your points. Especially the goofy one, even in my twenty hours as a very serious competetive player, I accidentily created moments that made me and my friends laugh out loud. And it's crazy to me how good this game feels. Tho I currently struggle to be efficient on the map at all, cause my League of Legends brain isn't braining well for this game, I love every game. I really hope this sticks cause I am having a blast I've not had with a game since years.
10:12 Kelvin and Ivy were not nerfed just because they were considered strong, but because they got way more out of their respective builds compared to every other hero in the game. Kelvin would gun people down just 8-10 minutes into the game, dealing a thousand damage or more in a few seconds with his gun alone. Same story with Ivy, who would just spam Kudzu bombs everywhere, covering entire lanes and dealing around 70% of her total damage with one ability.
You've just described how they were too strong at the same time as claiming that it's not why they were nerfed lol. I get your point about them stepping out of their role, but there are characters like Shiv that can build anything (melee, gun, spirit) and Valve has done nothing to prevent that.
The fact it’s a game by valve gives me confidence it will trend up. I’m having tons of fun and the movement depth / baseline skill expression is the main issue I had with league. The movement mechanics are good enough to gap players worse than you even if they’re up a bit of souls. I love a lot of the decision making they did for the fundamentals of this moba
For me deadlock perfectly solves the issues i had with games like tf2, overwatch and lol, in tf2 and ow2 i never liked the game modes like pushing the cart, capture the flag or whatever and lol became too sweaty for me with every champion able to one shot each other. Deadlock just hits the sweet spot with game mode i like and combat based on exchange of combos instead of one shoting enemy from the bush
The Division (only the first one) will always be my favorite game of all time. The dz was the most unique PvP I have ever seen and the build crafting was so fun. That game in its peak was the most fun I have ever had playing a video game.

Very true, I mute every russian in my game, I wish they weren't in my games
I'm getting so many russians I'm now currently marked as a RU region player on Tracklock, even though I'm almost always matched on Stockholm servers with 90% russians.
Man I Love you bro, you were the best of the best destiny 2 content creator. Still watching your older D2 Vids. Keep up the good work bro, happy you are enjoying yourself.
Couldnt finish the video, as i started it just before i needed to start work, but just want you to know you’re one of the best Deadlock personalities out there. Fantastic editing and thoughtful gameplay. These videos have helped me become my friend group de-facto team captain more than anything else (other than practicing the game myself, of course)
Loved this video ❤ For me I've put a lot of hours in over the last 2 weeks and I really can't see myself going away from this game any time soon, it's got me hooked hard and I haven't felt this way about a game in a long time
Deadlock will for sure become an esport
Oh one hundred percent. It’ll definitely be at least another year probably two until the games in a state for that to happen though which is good imo.
As an Abrams main I can say with absolute objectivity that the best thing to do is make more Abram's guides.
I thing I love is that even though some of the characters who are better as support they still end up being really good at damage
Been here since Halo Wars & just wanna say im glad you've grown to half million subs.
This was a great video, Brad Garlinghouse. I'll be looking forward to more deadlock videos from my favorite youtuber, Brad Garlinghouse.
Shiv doesn't have any form of crowd control though, he feels more like a backline dive hero.
@@MarcoStyle that's fair, I generally build shiv as a tanky melee hero like a lot of people build Abrams but you are right he feels more like a tanky assassin instead of a traditional tank
I've seen tank Viscous work effectively.
What about tank gheist
@@LiamWarlord my wife is a geist main and wont let me try it.
we found a new addiction my man :)
18:53 so funny listening to their argument as a russian.
Some things never change.
Can you please roughly translate what they're saying? I'm curious now
Enjoying your content there Brotherini, keep it up!
I tried to tell my boss that playing Deadlock was good for business, but he just didn't understand. Thanks for grinding the content for us!
7:40 outer wilds mentioned
how is he so based?
i ❤️ the outer wilds fanbase
I'd love a video with your kind of quality that explains each hero, the basics of playing and countering them both.
So with the right items he can do "everything"
Infernus isn't that much the case but with the right items he can do it also kinda good. Slow on 1, engage with flame dash + ult, 3 for dot, reduce spirit damage. With inhibitor you reduce their damage even more and with ricocchet you can spread it. With leech and resistence items you can also become very tanky!
i think deadlock is here to stay. it may not be “the next big thing” but its going to have a massive loyal community
As someone who remembers metro from his raging in overwatch im glad you are taking advantage of his deadlock rage
That office clip was golden
Commenting for the algorithm so a fellow addict can keep at it
i discovered you because of the division 2 retrospective and now that i'm playing deadlock you're here
I totally agree, i actually have to stop myself playing the game and do real life things, which i havent had since Overwatch 1 came out and i was trying to compete in amateur tournaments. I love the game, i rage at it sometimes but thats all part of the love haha
Keep the vids coming though, you've been too quiet the last week or so and i need Deadlock content to watch on my lunch break haha
That mid fight into ult into parry into capture was awesome.
Deadlock is the first to get my attention since the division, Happy to see you are enjoying it to :)
I feel you. Take your time my man
I'm pretty high rank in overwatch.
I was waiting for a new video and was wondering why 😂
Great video, Deadlock is going to be huge
ExOW player that moved to Deadlock here. Man I wish the part where you said "tanks and healers get value because dps stays close to them" is true XD So many dps spam need healing when they're across the map behind 4 walls lmaoooo There is a "frontline" and "backline" but it's constantly moving and shifting so much due to the objective, map design and hero specific abilities that it becomes rather hard to pin point. OW is really distinct in that regard. That being said, I love the vid! Keep it up!
Is there a Metro cameo in the next Abrams guide? He is becoming a staple in your videos and i love it
I feel the same way about Kelvin that you do for Abrams.
Marco: “The only real tank is abrams” Life Steal Lady Geist: “Am I joke to you?”
Can't wait to play this freaking game. Hope it's out in the next two years.
You know you can play it now yeah? Or are you just waiting
@@Justin-lr6yfYou can play it if you have a friend who can invite you to playtest. Want to friend me on steam and i'll send you an invite?
I also love how Deadlock feels so fresh, not just because of its mechanics, but also the setting and art. Not a lot of games go with occult noir besides like, Skullgirls or something.
I miss the division so much...The survive DLC is the peak experience.
@@doolioart3314 interesting! Yes, they are probably looking for it with help of players and feedback. Hard to make ”new” things
I discovered this game three days ago, and it's already a true obsession. I finally got a full night's sleep, and am now raring to go get destroyed by people who actually know how to play!
No words I can say will do justice to how much I love this game.
WOOOO! ANOTHER ABRAMS GUIDE!
The king brings us a gift
Edit: ANOTHER ABRAMS GUIDE WOOOOO
Seeing Marco’s 89 hours in 2 weeks to my 59 hours in the same time:
I have rookie numbers. Gotta pump those numbers up.
I went in thinking I was not going to like Deadlock at all, but I actually lived it right away. Really engrossing gameplay loop.
16:00
He's describing "Mobas" as if Dota 2 doesnt exist lol.
As someone who hates mobas; deadlock pulled me
Same
Metro: "You're terrible at the game. Uninstall."
Teammate: "You're 1 fckn 7!!"
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Game hasn’t hooked me like this in a long time. Was primarily a console gamer until the day I got my deadlock invite.
It keeps you thinking keeps you sharp ya know
I already enjoyed your content but you just earned a lifetime subscriber with the HotS love...
Mo & Krill would be more of a tank if they weren't 75% head hitbox
Cant wait for ranked to come out today! Really interested in how they manage a rank system that uses percentiles over points
What do you think of the upcoming lizard character, it seems to be their movement focused one...
The itemization and build options for any characters actually seem genius.
Mo&Krill is absolutely a tank. His scorn heals soooo much and if he is played right he is very difficult to kill
The haze parry at 13:42, lol
Thank you brad garlinghouse!
