The funniest thing to me was when valve gave deadlock a store page they were in breach of their own contract because the store page lacked multiple images and a proper description
Looool that’s such valve thing to do 😂
"Screw the rules, I have money"
@@Slendermaster968 "screw the rules, I made them"
Steam should take down Valve and ban them from the platform. They can't get away with this.
How it feels to be in beta
I think community builds in the shop are genius. Its so easy to pick a good build as a new player and just blindly follow it while you're getting used to the mechanics. Then as you get more familiar with the game you can theory craft and do your own thing build wise.
Its been in dota for ages
They need to bring back ratings and sort by language because shit just got confusing for guides.
And the simplicity of the shop adds to this. Making builds is imo a big part of the game and it's a very enjoyable one at that. Making builds , putting and removing items just makes you feel like you know the hero you're playing
@@cry_csgo I came from league. and I know you can load builds in league but not on the fly.
Yamato's design will be revised, it's a leftover from Neon Prime
Same for bebop. Note the difference between his model and his headshot on the HUD. Headshot is a sneak peek of the new model
is this confirmed or just hope? i worry a lot of people like their designs and there might be backlash if they get changed too much
@@nicjolas confirmed, there is even official concept arts, just search on google
@@nicjolas there's been confirmation that every design will be changed in some way before final release. Some small, some big. To your point, yes, bebop and yamato are specifically outdated neon prime designs and have been confirmed to be the target of overhauls.
@@nicjolasconfirmed by Yoshi himself
The shop compared to other Mobas is incredibly refreshing. Instead of buying items like Rimbleblat's Squiggle Scepter or Karen's Corrupting Shirt Buttons , you buy items like 'Headshot Booster' and 'Superior Stamina' which do exactly as the name describes. Items are color coded so you generally know what they do and the game forces you to diversify until you unlock freedom through flex slots. The descriptions are clear and concise which has always been my issue with items in most mobas.
I really hope they stick with this formula - it's actually so simple, it's amazing.
Holy shit this.
I never liked mobas with the clunky inventory and the necessity to always fluff up the items, so you had to essentially memorize the names/icons used. Just so tedious
I mean i know the names of items in like league are weird but you CAN hover over them and you get the complete info card of what the item does, what it gives and any passives or actives it has on top of being a stat stick. While the names themselves are confusing all you have to do is hover over them and you know exactly what it does,
yeah, when I first played League of Legends I was a bit baffled that I would get something like the Blade of The Ruined King or the Black Cleaver but those where not items that I can use, I thought I can pull out the giant Cleaver or the giant Blade and do an attack with them, these aren't so much items as they are just perks that fill out the perk slots you have, in league or dota they just have a bit more fluff with an item icon, but this hurts visual clarity which Deadlock fixes and I actually love the way they do it, even though its more items it allows for more counterplay and options with the amount of slots you get while making each item a smaller step and have a simpler buff, there isn't much complexity per item, compared to league which now the items feel more like they are characters and you fill out your roster of super passives that dictate how the whole match is.
i personally dont like this because in league, you buy one category of items for your champion most of the time and you dont worry about a lot of the items, legendary are built from components which are incredibly simple stat boosts, so as long as you get a rough idea of what the items are good for its not that hard, yes it it extremely confusing in the beginning but once you get the hang of it it becomes like second nature and making a build is incredibly easy and coherent to understand
in deadlock even the basic items are noteworthy and should be memorized, unlike components in league where they only give one stat and youre only getting them in order to get the legendary item, some give weird stats like random weapon items giving spirit power, you need to diversify most of the time so that means for every character you play you still need the knowledge of all 3 categories, and some items are just good not because they sound good but because the numbers are good, which is what happens when they are all essentially simple stat boosts, i find it incredibly hard to figure out a build by myself and have to resort to looking at other players but it seems everyone is confused about building anything on any character, the amount of times i see pure utility items built consistently or pure damage characters simply because the numbers are way better than they should be makes it confusing connecting a good build on a character with that characters attributes
thirdly i really dislike the icons, theyre quite bland and sometimes i think at least dont display the intention of the item correctly, i could be wrong but i find them a bit boring
i could be wrong, it could get better the more i play, but this is one aspect of the game i dont like
Most people hate the shop. I think anyone who hates he shop doesn't intuitively know what headshot booster would do.
Shop right next to lane, quick travel around the map with ziplines and teleporters, and when you do have to walk, theres crates and statues to break. Its basically MOBA for the adhd brain.
I'll add that the Laning phase is immediately fun and active, and because you all have effective ranged weapons it feels like a shootout from the very beginning, instead of an awkward teasing dance while you level up to become useful.
Melee atacks and being able to parry make even lvl 1 fights be intense and allow you to win on skill
Ivy is from Spanish Harlem but I'm not sure the actual street map is? I thought it was just supposed to be a generic central New York with lane names such as "Greenwhich St" , "Park Avenue" and "Broadway".
Yeah the map is just occult noir New York city not any specific part really
The map is called cursed apple i think, it's stated in the beginning of the tutorial
OFF pfp spotted
Yamato is unchanged from neon prime at the moment, where I think she was an alien that got really interested in japanese culture
Alien Weeb 😔
Pretty sure mcginnis is neon prime still too right? She looks pretty sci fi lol
@@skilletno1She looks more steampunk to me
@@sophrosynes6392 i kinda get what you mean but i personally think it leans more scifi with the rocket launcher on her shoulder and tools, not enough cogs imo for steampunk lol
@@skilletno1 Yeah I imagine the biggest change for McGinnis will be a face revamp and making her more steampunk. Right now her in game face model looks really really different than her loading screen icon
"Marketing what is that?" Someone at valve
Valve owns a Steam, an ecommerce platform. Having a game in top 10 most played is marketing itself
This video is marketing
The soul denial mechanics are absolute genius. The thing I hated about MOBAs was how fucking boring laning was, but it's actually fun in Deadlock with the ability to flex your aim (or get flexed on) through soul denial. The movement is fantastic as well. Extremely fun just learning to traverse the map efficiently, and we're already seeing some players become known for their skillful movement.
Honestly the core of it is that it has insanely high levels of skill expression even in its current early access state especially with active items thrown into the mix. That's always the sign of any long living game.
Bonus is also that so far nothing feels cheesy either other than maybe super high skill Pocket players - the mediocre ones are just free souls.
you just described dota😭
@@tri3sweat i really like dota and im sorry to say, it doesn't have momentum based movement mechanics or aiming on a full 3d axis
When people say MOBAs I feel like they mean League. I think Dota laning is extremely engaging and fun (unless you are getting stomped and forced into the jungle). Deadlock has less stuff you can do but the simple deny option makes it already more engaging than most MOBAs.
@@lukapitkanen3333 yeah, LoL got rid of denies because they felt it was unfair that someone was better at hitting a creep faster than you.
It was an odd choice, the same reason for them to remove evasion.
just play dota and not any other game that isn't dota and you can express yourself more through the hero you play.
They created Dota 3 but named it Deadlock, they literally can't count to 3.
Poor valve
1,2,4
Defense of the Patron.
I personally blame L4D2 for that. Valve was flooded with complaints that it was basically a DLC for the first L4D and it wasn't worth the price, and some even joked that L4D3 must already be in production since they're churning it out so fast.
After that, valve almost stopped making games entirely, so that might be one of the reasons why.
Or they just didn't care that much about making games since steam gives them infinite money basically, who knows
Not even close to dota. The biggest defining feature of dota is tower deny.
I can see how this game can be confusing but I was able to understand the gameplay loop in like 2 hours. I had the privilege of playing with a friend who knew what he was doing when I first hopped on. But all he really told me in the first couple games we played was how to get pre-made builds from the shop, and that out farming the enemies matters more than killing them. That was enough for me to get into the swing of things and have a lot of fun. This is coming from someone who has never really played mobas before btw, Ive tried smite and LoL before but they were both so obtuse/unfun I gave up trying to learn them after like 20 hrs.
If you're a smite player you'll probably get it in a game or two. It feels very similar but much faster than smite.
@@pfitz9346everyone I know that has 2k+ hours in smite myself included just dropped smite for this game in a heartbeat. I can understand players being confused or overwhelmed but for me this game is essentially scratching the eternal itch in my chest.
8:36 "Winning the game in a nailbiting finish!" > team 51k gold ahead of the enemy
Dude ur videos are incredible . Well edited, paced and hilarious writing
hard agree
I have 0 hours on mobas before deadlock. The moba mechanics came pretty easily to me. The core macro mechanics is the same as map presence in overwatch or valorant. And abyone that has a good time with objective based gameplay is gonna thrive here.
This video is excellent. I really enjoy how you edit your bird avatar into the footage. This was a great watch.
Great video and great editing! This game rules man, I wasn't a fan originally but the option to check out pre-made builds for your character makes it so much more accessible as a newbie to the MOBA genre and now I can't stop playing... help me...
Building recommendations and mechanics tutorials have been completely delegated to the community, particularly here on RUclips.
Expect the Deadlock team to move fast and break things constantly, some times sever times a week.
Never gets old when modern players find out their dota2/csgo rollout method
6:42 never say this words again
The style of this vid is awesome! The pacing is good, and the thoughts flow smoothly between each other. It doesn't need sections because it is one cohesive review. Keep it up!
Fun game, loving it so far. Video was entertaining too, good work!
Been playing a lot of lash because he has a funny mustache and I apparently main characters with funny mustaches.
Picked it up completely drunk the other night with a friend and had a blast. IMO it is much LESS confusing than any other MOBA ive ever tried for the first time (aussming it's not your very first MOBA, I guess)
There is a wonderful in-game built-in BUILD tab for items so you dont even have to look up a guide for every character you try and can just jump in and choose from the limited selection the game recommends. All the items are super clear and straight to the point, it's refreshing as fuck.
I loved LoL and Dota, but every time I would lose interest for a while, come back after a few months hiatus and be COMPLETELY lost in the new meta, having to relearn build and items and a whole thing. The barrier of entry was reallly high, but even the barrier to RE-entry was horrible to get through everytime.
I'm hoping it wont be the sme with Deadlock, but I guess we ll have to wait and see.
Guides can actually write a lot, as in a lot.
A name for the category, description for said category, just a box of text, description for every item (and i believe ability). Right now there is the problem of guides not being sorted in any way, but seeing how dota got it right i assume deadlock will fix it later.
Normal people discover Dota3(deadlock) for the first time
6:15 I'm a Pocket one-trick. He's very hit and run cycling abilities.
im so excited to see what the game will look like when its done
Yamato looks like that painting lady from I.T.
I'm pretty sure she's a literal alien from Neon Prime, when the game was sci-fi, and that she will receive a redesign.
She looks like Wednesday Adams from the 3D animated movie
...Wait fr 💀
And I thought I was the only one..
Yamato's concept art for her redesigns make her look like a yakuza killer, really cool stuff, definitely fits the theme a lot more
just want to say your format really work well. keep it up 👍
and a request can you try or do a video on THE FINALS
I’ve been absolutely addicted to this game. I’ve never seen such depth and outplay potential in any other game. I just hope it blows up and doesn’t get slept on.
Video summed up: A noob's take on Deadlock being too much for them to understand.
Average teemo player take
@@satorrotas93 The last time I played LoL was season 4. Also fun fact, I literally invented Tankmo and was the reason Malady got removed as an item. Riot MsPudding saw my Tankmo video and guide and then streamed using it. Then, the very next patch Riot removed the core item of the build from the game, Malady.
Kind of assumed that? That's why we're here right?
And it's a great point. Nearly everyone I've played with has mentioned feeling overwhelmed when first coming into this game. Many people when they are confused and frustrated with a game quit before very long. Accessibility modes for newer players is definitely something that would help them retain some of that. After all the hype isn't going to flood the playerbase with fresh meat forever. It's only going to feel worse for brand new players as they're placed against people who play 5 hours a day for months and months. And for games like this that are going to require a certain number of players to ensure some degree of match balance and reasonable queues Valve needs to make sure those players aren't running away before they ever get invested.
@@shooby9496 yeah, and there's already been mad toxicity from people who no-lifed the game since the initial invites complaining that some of us don't know what we're doing. Yeah, the game isn't even fully public. Good chance half the people playing literally don't know 3 different characters names.
The ending was hilarious. Great ideas for teaching new players.
Underrated vid
really good video, you got a new subscriber
New sub ! You're nice, funny, simple, and quite smart 😁 A pleasure to have watched that video !
Ivy sounding like a spicy Latina is an amazing design choice 😂😂
I absolutely love viscious and I dont know why more people arent into him. I absolutely love running through everyone as a ball of goo lol.
Haha you are great, glad i found your channel!
if you haven't seen you should look for the concept art for the yamato redesign. She looks so damn cool with like a yokai thing goin on
also, the whole scenario around the games launch is 100% intentional - they knew when they started letting friends invite friends the game would spread like wildfire and that's precisely why it's so popular right now.\
The itemization feels nice and logical with specific buffs and attributes when compared to for example LoL or DotA where there are just random lore items with different stats/passives.
First time seeing your channel and I really like your video style. Wish you'd do more than just Apex videos, I'd love to see more.
To people trying their hardest to say that deadlock isnt moba and you dont need to worry about your build.
YOUR ITEMS BOOST YOUR STATS YOU PEOPLE, you can boost your damage, abilities cooldowns, movement speed, gun attributes, viscous inflation fetish duration, life steal, hp regen, bullet shields, magic shields etc
Yes, the act of buying items is simplified but everything else is still as complicated as usual moba is.
ppl just starting should definitely play either
Abrams with Puncy McPuncherson build
Haze with press 4 to get kills build
like the most noob friendly heroes
What I believe people meant, was not needing to think when following a build guide. It wouldn’t dictate how you would play unlike other MOBA’s. But the higher elo you are, the more important “active” items get. You’ll eventually find out as you keep playing.
I've never been one to play MOBA's but I have had a great time on Deadlock so far.
I see people in the comments hating, just by you describing your play style as average and how dead lock’s learning curve should be lowered. And we all know they hate it when things are easy. I personally believe that average players don’t want to have a learning experience by taking a loss. Just keep playing, it’s more rewarding to earn that skill. Challenges keep the brain engaged. It is a sad reality that games nowadays can’t help themselves to have a stand alone experience without implementing a mode for casual players in order to keep them. Great editing and research btw.
You can even play the currently unreleased heros in the little demo lobby you can go into the console commands and some of them are playable with pretty complete animations already
6:35 pretty much sums up my experiences with Deadlock so far 😂 I’m having fun though I just suck rn
The shop is great you can choose items to counter you enemies that's fantastic.
This game is confusing but god damn once you get the hang of it, its so much fun
Came to see review, stay for funny sunglasses bird.
A lot of the character designs will be revised, a lot of the gameplay clarity will also be revised. The devs are constantly talking to the community through forums and through its own discord server. It has some bugs, I had a game where I was stuck inside a wall for over 5 minutes while playing against Viscous as Yamato (he used the punch ability while i was dashing and it forced me into a wall), but in general, the game isn't that buggy, its pretty polished for an alpha game
the only thing I'm concerned is just game balance, but it's alpha so it doesn't matter much.
Yamamoto'a current model is a left over from neon prime when she was a Alien who got obsessed with japanese culture, she will get a new model
I absolutely love the laning phase in deadlock, it's such a breath of fresh air.
As Abrams I'm either the lane bully or I get sent to walker in 3 minutes with the current meta. But I totally agree. Great skill expression is possible
This game is for sure hard to get into, but if you put a little time into it it's really addicting. Laning phase is also really fun
I think that it's okay for the early development version of the game to not be super accessible yet. Building tutorials and guides for content that it likely to change wouldn't be a great idea lol
I have 8k ours in dota(Peak top 1000 Eu, and a bit more than 1k ours in apex. Since deadlock added to my steam I quit dota and play apex only cuz I bought battle pass. This game have a great potential imo
Real fun review and totally true
For my opinion accualy it has to be in a big bucket since every game has the situation the best thing to do is to accualy understand what they do only if youre not playing the game casualy tho
Every second I played Deadlock I just wanted to switch to Gigantic. The game is way underappreciated.
missing every bullet on the enemy
**confusion**
Many of the heroes were almost untouched from their Neon Prime versions like Yamato. They're going to be fixed. Good example is Shiv with a hairstyle not seen in the games era yet and a robotic arm very much outside the mechanics of the day
Yamato reminds me of the mother in Kubo and the 2 strings
I think the "what the fuck do I buy" issue is just part of the genre and while it's overwhelming for people new to the game, it turns into a strength later. Also, following build guides it's like the defacto way to play LoL and DotA lol I remember seeing LoL pros asking chat what's the current build for X champeon
Nice vid you corvid
It's not a damn Hero Shooter.
Technically a movement shooter mixed with MOBA elements.
I wonder if Yamato's design was left over from something and whether or not she'll get a new design 😮
I love Ivy so much
Despite the game being in public early access, people ALREADY are in love with Ivy, who is unironically described as "scrunkly" by PCGamer
Ivy has been nominated to be the de-facto mascot of the game so far. I don't think any other character receives the same amount of goofy fan art.
3:55 Lash is also curses... Like he can say fuck to one of the characters after he kills it.
Its a fun game with depth.
Ngl I stopped playing apex cause of this
Ver nice
I've played more alpha games this year than actual full release games somehow
with time they will introduce deadlock plus
that recommends hero picks and items on dota and track stuffs
I find screen too cluttered after being accustomed to the Finals
I hope they revise the shop and create actual item names + more identifiable pictures.
booo 👎
I feel like the not easy to learn thing happens in every single game like this, just a lot going on with multiple lanes and everything, they do suggest items for you though
I don't give a shit about this game and uninstalled it in like, 2 hours after finishing the tutorial.
I only care about Ivy. Forfeit all physical belongings to Ivy. Allow Ivy to claim and consume you. This is the way.

Just say that everyone wanted the revival of Paragon, but two attempts went sideways, so Valve took matters into her own hands
