So I had a pretty similar reaction the first time I listened to the song, but I kept finding myself wanting to go back and listen to it again, and now I find myself really enjoying this song. This song is definitely one that takes multiple listens to appreciate, but it really starts to grow on you.
I feel so differently about your comment calling it safe, i felt it was such a risky move to release something so evolutionary and progressive. It's cryptic and existential and the more I listen the more attached I am to the song. It's technical in its key changes and arpeggios, the solo feels almost classical, the corral style vocals in the end of the pre-chorus, leading into the dark, muted "Nobody" in the refrain just does something to me, man.
I had a similar take after listening to Nobody. It took me a few spins to really get a feel for the pacing of the track. I will say tho, it grows on you significantly after each listen.
Pieces of this do sound familiar to me. Their self-titled album had shades of ballsy experimental and odd combinations (Matt using autotune on the song Lost, Little Piece of Heaven being batshit, Dear God being a country song), City of Evil had a LOT of orchestra use (and Nobody has that low brass that I'm pretty sure was trombones, plus all those strings) - Afterlife had those barbershop quarter type harmonies... It really feels like they're taking everything they dabbled in previously and the spacey, trancy vibe of The Stage and just smooshed it all together - personally, I think it's pretty goddamned funny that they're sending this one out first. I keep thinking about how absolutely insane this is going to sound on a big stage, though, it sounds like a show opener to me.
As a fellow long time A7X fan, my first listen was the same as yours. I wasn't sure, but I think that's because my expectation was for a more traditional A7X itch. A few more listens and I love it! It's right on par with the rest of their catalog! Excited as HELL for the rest of the album. Love the channel dudes!!!
About the brass parts. The Rev and Syn had a side band called Pinkly Smooth, in which Rev had the majority of artistic freedom. If you listen to them, this song will mean a lot more. It almost even feels like a tribute to Rev, with The lyrics, and throwing in his style. Just a theory, but enough to convince me. Disregard. I just watched Cosmic, and the theory is confirmed, for at least those two. I'm about to listen to the album to see if the whole thing is a tribute. Also, I think the guys may have been dabbling in hallucinogenics a bit. Second edit: Just finished the album. Both theories absolutely confirmed.
This was my feeling hearing the Stage, it took a long time for me to get in to The Stage and just realize its part of this "every album is different" of A7X and its a progression of experimentation with them. So going in to Nobody, not a huge shocker IMO.
I finally got what the lead singer reminds me of, the lead singer of Winery Dogs, Ritchie Kotzen. Love this song, totally different once again from older songs
During the lead up to the new music they had discussed how this would be inspired and influenced by Kanye. Matt has some pretty good flow going at times, trap like percussion, the brass! It’s seriously cool stuff yet still Avenged. Definitely a grower!
I've listened to this song like 20 times, trying to force myself to like it cause I loved Avenged Sevenfold. Everything from Waking the Fallen to Hail to the King. They fell off with the Stage and this one seems just like it, to me. I want to love it so much but I just can't.
The people that don't like this song or video just don't understand what it's all about. For those of you that don't understand it's going on right now in our lives.
My first time listening: M. Shadows vocals: Oh, he loose his voice, this vocals are so different, i hate this kind of vocals. Syn Gates' riffs: What a fuck? I miss Citty of Evil guitars, i'm so upset. Video Clip: One more video game stuff? lol Song Style: WTF? Its not A7x! Is there Rap in the middle of song? Whats this mix? Didnt like this at all, its very confusing. Syn's solos: Ok, i liked this, it's the only good part for sure, thank you Syn. Third time Listening: M. Shadows Vocals: I fucking love Shadows voice, fit perfectly with the music! How can he sings with vocal cords problems? He is so amazing! My favourite singer since I knew him. Syn gates' riff: OMG this riff is so deep and so simple at the same time! Love it. Video Clip: Holy fuck, I love how do they pass such a philosophical message! We have to be better people, the world is sick. Song Style: I didnt like this at first, but the song grew on me, i can't stop listening this masterpiece. Syn's solo: I think it's easily a top 3 solo ever done in history. No one can disagree.
They weren't hacked and it wasn't marketing either Matt had this crazy idea for the bat country fan base to put on a treasure hunt with clues he'd drop on his discord which could include websites and what not. This Album Life is nothing but a dream is supposed to through off everyone he was saying there's the same beat you hear in the stage. He wanted to take a chance that other bands wouldn't. And the constant high hat is actually Brooks Wackerman along with the drumming. To conclude this, the horns you hear Matt actually went to Sony studios and stuck mics 🎤 in the bells as deep as could to throw everyone one off he did this on purpose to get a reaction from everyone basically.
That’s what marketing is my dude. Getting a mass reaction from everyone and then dropping a new song and album release date after you have their attention.
Cool stop-motion video, but I am really not sure how to feel about the song. I feel like it has some cool elements, but put all together it just feels.. messy.
For me it's not their best but it is good...gonna be interesting to see what the rest of the album is like. I can see the parkway drive scenario in this where the newer stuff is probably gonna take some getting used to cos it's different 🤷
Well Shadow's blew his vocals out which is why he sounds this way. It's a really weird first time listen. I think everyone had the same reaction regardless the person 😂 It took me like 5-10 listens on this one.
I agree with Chels on the vocals. Voices change but I didn't expect that. The video was great but the song felt repetitive. Maybe some Neil DeGrasse Tyson while the skeleton was floating through space would have helped.. idk.. now i'm rambling.
@@PSylent92 could be, but I think after the issues he had while touring for the stage he's probably since worked the worst of them out. Those problems definitely could have changed his range and his sound though, so fingers crossed that he's gonna be okay for touring this time
Howdy, first comment on your channel from me and I'd like to suggest the song "an orphaned city" by burial in the sky. It's sort of melodic kinda like Lorna shore and I'm sure you all will like.
Avenged Sevenfold was my favorite band for two decades. But between their bad acid trip of a new song, and this classist, elitist new blockchain bullshit they’re backing, they’ve fallen pretty far from the top for me.
I think that those who like this song is because they have grown old... accept it.. it's a very bad song after 7 years.. you can grow up, but not in this ugly way.. The only one who is saved is Synyster Gates 🥸
So I had a pretty similar reaction the first time I listened to the song, but I kept finding myself wanting to go back and listen to it again, and now I find myself really enjoying this song. This song is definitely one that takes multiple listens to appreciate, but it really starts to grow on you.
My feelings exactly
You can brainwash yourself into liking any song if you listen to it enough times.
@Ryan Treyn actually quite the opposite
Absolutely had the same reaction. But the more I listened to it and reflected on the meaning. The better it got
The entire The Stage album was exactly the same way for me.

This song has slowly grown on me since they released. It is now in my a7x playlist
I loved everything about this song. I never listened to the "old" Avenged Sevenfold before, I do not need to compare.
It's different lol
I felt like a 7/10 on first listen too, completely agree with you guys, but it then became 9/10 after just a few listens!

they actually doing experiment a lot in every their album, so we listen to 7 to 8 different sounds from them.

Definitely give it a few more times, getting familiar with the vibe of the song has moved me from the same reaction you had to absolutely loving it 😀
Lol fck yah the trumpet is the actual nobody mumbling good one 😁👍
im thoroughly enjoying this song the more and more i listen to it
it's definitely a listen more than once song, then it starts to become on of your favorites :P
Truth!

That’s terrible inspiration… But in more positive news, we dig the song more now!
@MatandChelsReact It's probably terrible for them in retrospect, that's for damn sure lol
Why is Kanye a bad influence?
@@ragnarthered2112 mostly his opinions about stuff are a bit... ugh. But ye, i think they take inspiration from him as a musician
@@TheAnimeWeeb ugh? Because you disagree with it? Are you a moral arbiter?
You have to remember.
Matt had surgery on his vocal cords awhile back.
So yes his voice won’t sound the same
🤟🤟
I promise I haven't listened to this like 50 times already 😅😅
Hail to The Kings. ❤

After we did our full album reaction and listened to it several times the answer is yes.
worth the wait respect what? did you check at least 2 or 3 from that album? is an underrated masterpiece and no one cared about..
I think his voice sounds great !! Y'all hating I think!! I've followed this band since 2002 🤷 True fan and maybe people should stop hating

Debatable
But why force yourself to listen to something if you don't like it? Seems like a waste of time.
I can't lie, I'm pretty bummed out. To slow and unnecessarily loud.
Why does the girl keep having a mean girl judgy look on her face and rolling her eyes? Very distracting and rude ... Just saying
What??? There wasn't any eyerolling even once during this. 😂
production on the song is bad , lets not fool our minds , no matter how we love their old stuff
You live in the past.
Didn't work for me, one of the worst a7x songs imo

Yes, maturity is something you probably won't have the pleasure of experiencing.
