Hi Jeremy, thank you for the video. What a delightful shop. We bought a pair of braces from you (online). Before using them for the first time, my boyfriend said they wouldn't work (he's like that - lol). I knew they would do the job, because you only sell quality items. The braces are marvellous. He has worn them about 10 times now and they ALWAYS hold up his trousers. Thank you for selling quality braces! Next on the shopping list is a gilet. Thank you once again for the videos. Take care 🙂
Nice Shop, great and really helpful Content on your Channel. It is a pleasure to listen to your pleasantly unagitated manner as you pass on all the little tips for a good style of dress. Good Luck an take Care.
What a beautiful shop! Jermyn Street comes to Harrogate! A one stop establishment for the well dressed gentleman; literally, head to toe. Thank you for the tour, Jeremy. Very impressive.
Hello Jeremy, what a great shop in a fantastic town. I lived in Harrogate in the academic year 1991/92 ;-) Life was definitely different but British style never goes out of fashion... Hopefully, I can come back to North Yorkshire, my second home, one fine day ;-) I ♥️ 🇬🇧!!! Greetings from 🇩🇪
Hi Jeremy,I’m so pleased you decided to do a Facebook and You Tube channel as we would have never known your shop existed.Wonderful shop, superb stock. I’ve been trying to source some sock braces for year I just wondered if that’s something you stocked or could point me in the right direction. Many Thanks
Thank you for a very interesting tour around your shop, I'm many into the smart and casual look and have perchesed for Next and John Lewis but I'm alway looking out for different designs so hopefully I might see something on your online shop. p.s. I really thought Haragate was near London, seeing that you sell such high-quality clothing, but that's probably because I live near Bristol.
What a beautiful shop, and your suit looks fantastic!! Pure class. Would love to see your cashmere knits when fall arrives. Thanks for the tour and so nice to see you offering true quality men's wear.
Absolutely incredible, I won't pretend we have ever had such a lovely shop in our city, well, not since provincial tailors disappeared in most towns .... but then Harrogate is nationally known as being a bit well heeled these days! Thank you for showing us around, and good luck. M
Jeremy - does your shop smell as lovely as it looks? I imagine it has developed a wonderful distinctive scent over the years of beeswax polish and leather, with perhaps the merest hint of cigar …
First time viewing your channel. Enjoyed the video of your shop. I have two questions/comments: 1) You mentioned the shirts not having front pockets. I have always struggled with what the rationale for not having a pocket in the front of a dress shirt is. I tend to find a pocket is useful, but in terms of proper dress, perhaps not so good? 1) I was admiring your eyewear, it looks like you have light adjustable lenses. It's a shame that eyewear frames are sold in an optical shop, where the staff have minimal fashion sense. Would be better if they were offered in stores like your own, where you could advise on the best eyewear to go with particular jackets etc.
The pocket less shirts stems from when most men wore waistcoats/vests, covering most of the shirt . For formal dress it looks better, but useful with casual dress. There are some good opticianss about… I try to match frames with shoes and watch straps , or a pair with dark and light tones in the frames🤝🤝
For those who might, or will, visit the UK, it is perhaps worth saying that Harrogate as a town is well worth visiting in its own right. It was, or is, a spa town which really came to prominence in Georgian times (I hope I’m right in saying all this as someone 4 hours away in Kent) and much of the town is now glorious in Georgian architecture. I do find myself asking about the clothes that Rhodes Wood sells in terms of features and benefits. For instance, Bresciani socks; not cheap but apparently well-regarded. But what would the benefit to me be of buying a Bresciani sock as opposed to another brand. Continuing on that theme, I understand the nature of hand finished but is there a benefit to me in a hand finished shirt or jacket? Is there something beyond just wearing something that you know had the touch of human hand rather than machine? These are genuine questions and ones I ask myself before making any decision. I think most discerning gentlemen would agree that items from brands like Boss and RL are a triumph of marketing over quality; of brand over substance but when we come to the makers shown in this video, I don’t know to what extent I am buying the name or the quality. If that makes sense
Thank you for your comments on Harrogate. It is worth of a visit in its own right. When I started Rhodes-Wood 28 years ago we were 100% own label ( Rhodes-Wood) a ‘label’ no one had ever heard of! Our motto then and today still stands’ ‘we make up to a quality, not down to a price’ The last few years we have added a small 3-4 brands in, that we think are worthy. Bresciani are expensive but are truly a joy to wear, and when Pantherella stopped making in England .. The hand finished shirts are offered with or without hand work by our maker I choose with, to preserve and stop the skills from being lost ! These are offered alongside our other range of machine sewn or engineered shirts I hope that answers some of your questions 🤝🤝
@@rhodeswood5513 thank you for that. I wear either silk blend or bamboo socks - from a variety of retailers. In a sense, what would the Bresciani wool mix sock bring to me as advantages? Fit? Better material? I’m assuming that hand finished shirts are not essentially superior in fit or wear but do add to the wearing experience. As you say, keep those skills as once they are lost, we will never see them again. I think everyone would agree that silk ties are the best - although I have a love for knitted ones also. But silk seems a very wide term covering rubbish to very nice. What criteria should I apply when I next choose a tie? What width? What bulk? What kind of silk? I don’t mean you to answer those here and now but I wonder if they might give you a track for future videos
Fabulous shop. It is marvellous to listen to someone who clearly cares so much about what they do. I must visit sometime. Can I ask - how on earth do you control moths? Are they even a problem if product turnover/movement is high and everything is kept in good order? Best wishes.
@@rhodeswood5513 I can imagine. On the subject of knitwear, which got me thinking about moths: I have heard it said that lambswool tends to tighten a little bit with use and washing, giving slight shrinkage, while cashmere relaxes over time. What is your view on this and how to choose a size? With the best tightly knitted stuff from Scotland, presumably it's only a minor issue.
Hello Jeremy. I watch your videos on behalf of my two grandsons who, I hope, will be customers one day. I do like your way of presenting, (especially the £3,000 suit!)and always look out for the next new video. Your shop was previously that of Mr Ruddock, wasn’t it, who dealt in antique jewellery when I lived in Harrogate in the late 70s.
Hi Jeremy . How spooky that your video has just this morning appeared in my feed We visited your shop yesterday and had a interesting chat with your colleague Will definitely be back Beautiful and very stylish shop
I’ve gotten away from suits as I don’t go to court much anymore so what suggestions would you have beyond the blue blazer and grey trousers? Might make some good content.
I go to Harrogate often and I love looking in this shop window I was surprised we didn't get a look in the braces window but the next time I am there I am having a pair
Hello, my friend, all the way from Chicago, USA. You have a great-looking store full of great-looking merchandise-it's a grown man's candy store. Just on the second floor alone, I could run up my Amex card credit card. :)
What is the hat usage in England? I believe it surpasses USA. My wife loves British millinery goods and recently purchased a hat that Catherine borrowed from Zara with feathers and it really is beautiful. Made by a well-known maker.
Does The Church brand still make shoes in UK for men, a traditional dress shoe? Sort of tricky to identify such shoes as has been my experience. I have a couple of pairs made in UK and one that celebrated 1945 in a custom like shoe. Do you believe in applying rubber to soles to prevent falls? Years ago I work leather so-called penny loafers and I took a few spills so I started using the rubber. What are your thoughts?
Church do make some shoes but it’s not as prevalent as it was. Rubber , Danite, city soles sell very well… I would buy them built that way or wait until they need rebuilding and have the cobbler or factory do it🤝
