this is a great technique but when speeding up, brain fails to explain a very important open/close hand technique which you can see him doing from 1:15. Had me confused for quite some time.
You are correct! Had me confused for YEARS before I noticed he changes the accent from the 2nd stroke to the 1st mid way. If you don't watch closely you believe (like I did) that he is accenting the 2nd stroke all the way from beginning to the end. Still, the way he was taught does reinforce the 2nd stroke and make the roll sound more even. Most drumline drummers teach the same method.
